Commanders Expected To Hire Brian Johnson

The Washington Commanders are expected to hire former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson to a prominent offensive staff role, according to a source. Johnson interviewed for several head-coaching jobs this cycle despite lasting only one year as the Eagles' offensive coordinator. In D.C., he'll join former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury, who was hired to lead head coach Dan Quinn's offense in 2024. Johnson will likely serve as Washington's passing-game coordinator. Quinn and Johnson both coached at the University of Florida, but not at the same time, while Kingsbury and Johnson both coached at the University of Houston, but not at the same time. Johnson was the quarterbacks coach for the Eagles in 2021 and 2022 before being promoted to offensive coordinator last year.

Saints To Speak With Brian Johnson About Offensive-Coordinator Position

The New Orleans Saints will interview former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson for their vacant offensive-coordinator position next week, according to a source. In addition to the Saints, Johnson has already interviewed for the same position with the Cleveland Browns and is expected to interview with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent the last two years as the Eagles' offensive coordinator and was promoted to the position to replace Nick Sirianni after serving as quarterbacks coach. Philly's offense was inconsistent in 2023, although they did finish the season ranked seventh in points scored and eighth in total yards. Their downfall late in the year was the fact that they scored fewer than 20 points in five of their last seven games, including the wild-card playoff loss to the Buccaneers.

Buccaneers To Interview Brian Johnson, Ken Dorsey

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers plan to interview former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson and former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey for their vacant offensive-coordinator position, according to sources. The Bucs had interest in Johnson last year as well before settling on Dave Canales, who was just hired on Thursday to be the Carolina Panthers' next head coach. In addition to the Buccaneers, Johnson is also a candidate for the same position with the Cleveland Browns. Dorsey, who was fired in the middle of the season by Buffalo, also interviewed for the Browns' offensive-coordinator gig this week.

Brian Johnson Out As Eagles Offensive Coordinator

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson will not return to the team next season, according to NFL sources. Head coach Nick Sirianni will have to replace both his offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator this offseason after the team collapsed down the stretch of the 2023 campaign, ultimately losing badly in the wild-card round of the playoffs to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter has been mentioned as a possibility to take over for Johnson, but he won't be among the top candidates for the job. The 36-year-old Johnson was in his first season as offensive coordinator for the Eagles in 2023. Prior to that, he helped quarterback Jalen Hurts develop into an MVP candidate in 2022 as the team's QBs coach. But Hurts threw a career-high 15 interceptions in 2023 and the Eagles fell in most statistical categories under Johnson.

Titans To Interview Brian Johnson, Aaron Glenn, David Shaw

The Tennessee Titans will interview Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson and Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn for their head-coaching job, according to a source. Johnson will interview with the team on Friday and also recently had an interview with the Atlanta Falcons for the same position. Glenn will also interview for both the Titans and the Falcons. Tennessee is also expected to interview former Stanford head coach David Shaw, who interviewed for the Los Angeles Chargers' head-coach job on Thursday. It will be Shaw's third NFL head-coaching interview in the past year, along with the Denver Broncos last year. Texans OC Bobby Slowik, Bengals OC Brian Callahan, Giants OC Mike Kafka, Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce, Ravens DC Mike MacDonald, Cowboys DC Dan Quinn and Panthers OC Thomas Brown have also interviewed with the Titans.

Falcons Interview Brian Johnson For Head-Coach Job

The Atlanta Falcons interviewed Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson for their head-coaching opening on Thursday. While it seems former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is the favorite for the head-coaching opening in Atlanta at the moment, it doesn't mean the Falcons aren't checking out other candidates. Johnson was in his first year as offensive coordinator with the Eagles in 2023 and could get the axe after Philly lost six of their last seven games, including Monday night's wild-card loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With Johnson as the play-caller in 2023, the Eagles finished the year ranked seventh in points scored and eighth in total yards. It obviously wasn't a terrible season, but given the late-season collapse, some heads may roll in Philly.

Titans Request To Interview Brian Johnson

The Tennessee Titans requested to interview Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson for their vacant head-coach opening, according to a source. That interview should happen at some point after the Eagles play their wild-card game on Monday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In addition to Johnson, the Titans plan to interview Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and potentially others. In addition to the Titans, the Carolina Panthers have interest in Brian Johnson as their next head coach. Johnson replaced Shane Steichen in Philly in 2023, and the team finished in the top eight in both points scored and total yards.

Panthers To Interview Brian Johnson, Ejiro Evero

The Carolina Panthers are expected to interview Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson and Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero for their head-coaching job, according to a source. The Panthers blocked the Jacksonville Jaguars' request to interview Evero for their coordinator job because they plan to interview him for a promotion to head coach in 2024. Evero led the Panthers' fourth-ranked total defense despite their NFL-worst offense. Quarterback Bryce Young, the first overall pick in 2023, struggled mightily in his first year in the league, but Carolina's lack of picks early in this year's draft may dissuade prospective head-coaching candidates more than anything. The Panthers are also searching for a new general manager this offseason, and surrounding Young with more talent on the offensive side of the ball will be one of the biggest priorities in this year's draft.

Eagles Officially Promote Brian Johnson To Offensive Coordinator

The Philadelphia Eagles officially promoted quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson to offensive coordinator on Tuesday to replace new Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen, according to sources. Johnson had other opportunities for offensive coordinator jobs, but he ultimately chose to stay with the Eagles. Quarterback Jalen Hurts will now receive play calls from his former QB coach in 2023. In addition to Johnson, the Eagles also named former Colts offensive coordinator Marcus Brady as a senior offensive assistant, Alex Tanney as the new QBs coach and T.J. Paganetti as the run-game specialist/assistant tight ends coach. The 36-year-old Johnson spent a decade coaching in college before making his NFL coaching debut when Nick Sirianni landed the head-coaching job in Philly.

Brian Johnson Expected To Become Eagles Offensive Coordinator

Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson is expected to become the team's next offensive coordinator after Shane Steichen left the team to become the Indianapolis Colts' head coach. "The offensive coordinator is going to be Brian Johnson, that I don't think there's any question there. That you can take to the bank basically," ESPN's Adam Schefter said on 97.5 The Fanatic on Wednesday. Johnson has helped quarterback Jalen Hurts become one of the league's best QBs since joining the team in 2021. Hurts has also known Johnson since playing youth football in Texas. Before joining the Eagles, Johnson was the QBs coach at the University of Florida in 2018 and 2019. He played at the University of Utah as a QB and was named the Sugar Bowl MVP in 2009.
