Veteran pass-rusher Bruce Irvin signed with the Chicago Bears on Thursday, according to a source. Irvin will give the Bears some more edge-rushing depth with Khalil Mack (foot) missing the last two weeks of action. Irvin was a first-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2012 and has 52 career sacks and 118 QB hits in 10 seasons with the Seahawks, Raiders, Falcons and Panthers. The 34-year-old played in just two games for Seattle in 2020 before he tore the ACL in his right knee. He has yet to play a game this year and isn't the player he once was, but he can at least give the Bears some quality veteran depth until Mack is able to return. Mack has six sacks in 2021, second to only Robert Quinn's 6.5.
Seattle Seahawks defensive end/outside linebacker Bruce Irvin (knee) recently had a second surgery for a torn ACL that he suffered in the Week 2 win over the Patriots. "He's come out of that really well but he's behind because of that," head coach Pete Carroll said. Irvin is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and the 33-year-old could encounter a frigid market since there's a chance he won't be ready for the 2021 season. Irvin had a career-high 8.5 sacks in 13 games (12 starts) for the Panthers in 2019, also recording 36 combined tackles (eight for loss), 16 QB hits and a fumble recovery, but he had zero sacks in his two games this year before blowing his knee out.
Seattle Seahawks outside linebacker Bruce Irvin (knee) tore his ACL in the Week 2 win over the Patriots on Sunday night and will miss the rest of the 2020 season, according to a source. It's a tough blow for the 32-year-old veteran, especially since the Seahawks Defense had allowed close to 1,000 total yards of offense combined to the Falcons and Patriots in the first two weeks. Rookie first-rounder Jordyn Brooks will need to step up in the middle of Seattle's defense for the rest of the season. Against a Cowboys team that made a miraculous comeback in Week 2 with over 40 points, you should be looking to avoid the Seahawks defense in fantasy.
Seahawks Defense May Lose Bruce Irvin For The Year
The Seattle Seahawks fear that outside linebacker Bruce Irvin (knee) tore his ACL in the Sunday night win over the Patriots, according to a source. Irvin will undergo more tests to confirm. The 32-year-old veteran isn't on the IDP radar at this point in his career, but he brings veteran leadership to this Seattle defense. He's had five combined tackles in two starts in 2020. The Seahawks Defense should be avoided for now, regardless of Irvin's status moving forward, as they've allowed 986 offensive yards to the Falcons and Patriots in the first two weeks of the season. Rookie first-rounder Jordyn Brooks will see more playing time if Irvin is lost for the season.
The Seattle Seahawks agreed to an undisclosed deal with defensive end Bruce Irvin on Wednesday, according to a source. The Seahawks took Irvin 15th overall in the first round back in 2012. He spent the first four seasons of his career in Seattle before making stops with the Raiders, Falcons and Panthers. Last year in 13 games (12 starts) for Carolina, Irvin had a career-high 8.5 sacks, 36 tackles (22 solo), eight tackles for loss, 16 QB hits, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He'll help pick up the pass-rushing slack if the team is unable to re-sign Jadeveon Clowney. Turning 33 in November, Irvin is unlikely to move the needle much in IDP formats.
Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Bruce Irvin (hamstring) has been ruled out for the Week 2 game against the Buccaneers on Thursday. Irvin has yet to play so far in 2019. It's a slight downgrade for Carolina's pass rush against Tampa, but the Panthers Defense remains in play as a low-end option against Buccaneers turnover-prone quarterback Jameis Winston.
Carolina Panthers linebacker Bruce Irvin (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 1 against the Rams. For a Panthers team that struggled to get to the opponent's quarterback in 2018, this isn't a good sign against a Rams team with a high-flying passing attack. Carolina's D/special teams could be good as a bye-week filler later in the season, but they aren't a recommended starting option to start the regular season this Sunday in a daunting matchup.
The Carolina Panthers are expected to sign free-agent defensive end Bruce Irvin to an undisclosed deal on Tuesday, a source told NFL Network's Tiffany Blackmon. The 31-year-old spent time with the Raiders and Falcons in 2018 and had 6.5 sacks in eight games with each squad. The veteran pass rusher will help fill the void left by Julius Peppers, who announced his retirement in February. Irvin should start across from Mario Addison in Carolina.
Oakland Raiders linebacker Bruce Irvin and safety Karl Joseph are both candidates to be traded ahead of the Oct. 30 deadline, according to sources. Irvin is a coveted pass rusher, but his $8 million base salary this year and $9 million salary for 2019 has turned teams off so far. Joseph is expendable for Oakland because of his inability to stay healthy. Oakland is in full-on rebuild mode in head coach Jon Gruden's first season, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see both Irvin and Joseph dealt. Irvin has six tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble in six games this season.
Oakland Raiders linebacker Bruce Irvin was asked to drop back in coverage a lot in 2017, but defensive coordinator Paul Guenther plans to have Irvin get back to rushing the passer more. I knew he was a really gifted rusher, Guenther said. ... Just coming here, I thought his best assets for us was to go forward rather than go backwards. Hes done a good job with what were asking him to do in the base fronts." Irvin was a part-time rusher last year but still had 40 pressures, ranking him 14th among linebackers. The 30-year-old tied his career high with eight sacks last year as a part-time rusher, so he could easily set a new career high if he's allowed to go after the quarterback more. He could be a nice value pick in IDP leagues alongside Khalil Mack in Oakland.
