The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Monday that they signed free-agent offensive lineman Calvin Anderson to an undisclosed two-year contract. Anderson will return to the Steel City for another two years and will likely continue to be a backup offensive tackle after he appeared in just four games (zero starts) in his first year with the team in 2024. The 29-year-old originally went undrafted out of the University of Texas before starting his NFL career in 2020 with the Denver Broncos. He spent his first three years in the league in Denver before spending the 2023 campaign with the New England Patriots. Anderson played in 41 games (12 starts) in his time with the Broncos but has since seen action in just nine games (two starts) the last two years in New England and Pittsburgh.
The New England Patriots and offensive tackle Calvin Anderson agreed to a renegotiated contract on Thursday that slightly reduces the base value of his deal in 2024 down from $3.35 million. The move creates $990,000 in salary cap space for the Patriots this year. Anderson entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Texas in 2020 with the Denver Broncos and he played his first three seasons in the NFL in Denver before playing for the Patriots last year. He played in just five games (two starts) for New England last year and has appeared in 46 games (14 starts) in his four years in the league. The 28-year-old also finished the 2023 campaign on the Injured Reserve. When healthy, he'll likely operate as tackle depth for the Pats.
The Denver Broncos are expected to place offensive tackle Calvin Anderson (ankle, knee) on Injured Reserve on Thursday. Anderson is expected to recover in three to five weeks and will not need surgery. As long as Anderson doesn't have any setbacks along the way, the Broncos could get him back late in the season as they look to make a playoff push. With Garrett Bolles and Ja'Wuan James out in recent weeks, Anderson was filling in. The good news is that the Broncos are expected to get starting left tackle Bolles back this week in time for a crucial Sunday night meeting with the first-place Kansas City Chiefs. Anderson had been doing a nice job keeping Denver's offensive line afloat amid injuries to their starters, and he had seen playing time at both left and right tackle.
Calvin Anderson Carted Off Field, Questionable To Return
Denver Broncos offensive tackle Calvin Anderson (leg) was carted off the field in extreme pain but is now questionable to return. Starting tackle Garrett Bolles (COVID-19) was already out, so the Broncos' exterior offensive line is becoming extremely thin. Furthermore, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (lower leg) and guard Dalton Risner (back) are both questionable to return. Fantasy managers should monitor these Broncos throughout the day and week, but if the team is down to third string offensive linemen and Drew Lock at quarterback, it becomes extremely risky to start any of the Broncos' ancillary pieces. However, some of these injured players will most likely return which would make some Broncos in Week 13 startable.
