Buffalo Bills quarterback Derek Anderson announced his retirement from football on Thursday. Mostly a backup in his career, the 35-year-old was initially taken with a sixth-round pick in 2005 by the Ravens. He spent four years in Cleveland to begin his year, one in Arizona, seven with the Panthers and finished up 2018 with Buffalo. Anderson had 60 career touchdowns and 64 interceptions while posting a 54.3 percent completion rate on 1,674 attempts in the NFL.
Buffalo Bills tight end Charles Clay (hamstring) and quarterback Derek Anderson (concussion) were both limited in practice on Thursday. Clay hasn't played since Nov. 4 but appears to be on track for a return against the Dolphins in Week 13. Clay has been a non-factor in real life and in fantasy all year, though, so he should remain on waiver wires everywhere. With rookie quarterback Josh Allen back and healthy, Anderson is purely QB depth in Buffalo.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Derek Anderson (concussion) and tight end Charles Clay (hamstring) have been ruled out for Week 12 against the Jaguars. Anderson was limited in practice all week, so he's clearly making progress. However, he'll merely be an insurance policy under center with rookie Josh Allen back in action. Matt Barkley will be Allen's backup on Sunday. Clay hasn't played since Nov. 4 and has 19 catches for 169 yards and no touchdowns on the season. Leave him to the waiver wire. Wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud was also a healthy scratch.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Derek Anderson (concussion) and tight end Charles Clay (hamstring) have been ruled out for Week 10 against the Jets. Anderson could not get cleared from the concussion protocol in time. Head coach Sean McDermott said the team is "still working through" who will be the starting QB this weekend. Rookie Josh Allen (elbow) is "progressing well" and has been limited in practice this week, but it remains to be seen if he'll get the nod. If it's not Allen, Buffalo will be forced to go with Nathan Peterman again. Either way, the Jets defense/special teams is a top streaming option on Sunday. With Clay out of the picture, Logan Thomas will once again see more work. He's a deep DFS sleeper or TE2 streamer for the desperate.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Derek Anderson (concussion) and tight end Charles Clay (hamstring) missed practice for the second straight day on Thursday. Anderson still hasn't passed the league's concussion protocol, putting his status this weekend against the Jets in doubt. There's a possibility that rookie Josh Allen (elbow) could return if Anderson isn't cleared. The last thing the team wants to do is go back to Nathan Peterman. Clay doesn't appear to be on track to play this weekend, meaning Logan Thomas should continue to see more opportunities. Clay has been a non-factor all season.
Derek Anderson, Chris Ivory, Charles Clay Not Practicing
Buffalo Bills quarterback Derek Anderson (concussion), running back Chris Ivory (shoulder) and tight end Charles Clay (hamstring) are not practicing on Wednesday. Anderson remains in the concussion protocol but will get the start against the Jets if he is cleared later this week as long as rookie Josh Allen (elbow) isn't given the go-ahead to return. Anderson would be a low-end QB2 if he gets another start. Ivory doesn't have standalone value as long as he's the backup to LeSean McCoy. If Ivory is inactive this weekend, Marcus Murphy would serve as the backup. Clay has done next to nothing this year and could be held out against New York. Logan Thomas had his best game in Week 9 and could see more opportunities, but he's merely a desperation TE2 for fantasy owners.
Derek Anderson Not Cleared, Josh Allen To Be Limited
Buffalo Bills quarterback Derek Anderson (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol on Wednesday and won't practice, while rookie Josh Allen (elbow) will be limited in practice. Head coach Sean McDermott said they are taking the QB position a day at a time this week. There's a chance that Allen could return this weekend to face the Jets. But if the team feels he's not ready, Anderson is expected to get the nod if he's able to clear the concussion protocol. Buffalo's skill players would see a fantasy boost if Allen is able to return. Even in a decent matchup, Allen would be nothing more than a low-end QB2 if he's back this Sunday.
Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that quarterback Derek Anderson (concussion) will start in Week 10 against the Jets if rookie Josh Allen (elbow) cannot play and if Anderson is cleared from the concussion protocol. A concussed Anderson is still probably better than Peterman, who threw three more interceptions (including another pick-six) in his start in Week 9 against the Bears. Anderson hasn't been very good in his two starts this year either, but he's at least a slight upgrade over Peterman. Anderson is a desperation QB2 play if he starts this weekend.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Derek Anderson (concussion) and rookie linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (concussion) have both officially been ruled out for Week 9 against the Bears. Anderson didn't practice all week and was never expected to play after suffering a concussion late in the Monday night loss. Nathan Peterman, who loves to throw pick-sixes, will get the start under center with rookie Josh Allen (elbow) still out. Behind a terrible offensive line with limited aerial weapons, Peterman is in line for another horrific day against a stout Bears defense. Chicago's defense/special teams is a must-start.
Derek Anderson And Nathan Peterman Draw Tough Matchup
Buffalo Bills quarterbacks Derek Anderson and Nathan Peterman look to be in for a rough day Sunday against the Chicago Bears. As of now, it is unclear who will get the start. It would appear Derek Anderson has little chance, since hes still in concussion protocol, but the Bills remain hopeful that he can play. Whoever gets the start, theyll face a tough Bears defense that is 2nd in the league in interceptions and 3rd in forced fumbles. With the Bills offense a complete mess right now its easy to avoid either of these guys in all formats. This is not the group of guys to go with on a low owned stack in DFS.
