Houston Texans defensive end Derek Rivers (biceps) will miss the entire 2022 season. This is a shame because Rivers was reportedly having a strong camp. Sadly, the 28-year-old has suffered a torn biceps, which will cost him the season. The former third-round pick has failed to establish himself in the league. Rivers has recorded 16 tackles and 3.5 sacks through three seasons in the NFL. His absence won't have much of an impact on the Texans defense. To be honest, the Texans defense isn't something worth looking at in most fantasy leagues anyway. Although, it's a shame to see such a promising player go down with a season long injury.
The Houston Texans agreed to terms with free-agent outside linebacker Derek Rivers on a one-year deal worth $1.3 million. The fourth-year veteran spent part of last year with the Los Angeles Chargers but is a former third-round pick of the New England Patriots, so he will reunite with general manager Nick Caserio. The Texans also signed former Cleveland Browns cornerback Terrance Mitchell to a two-year deal worth up to $7.5 million. Rivers has dealt with injuries in his three NFL seasons, playing in just 19 games (zero stats) while recording seven combined tackles, six QB hits and 2.5 sacks. The 28-year-old Mitchell started all 16 games for the Browns in 2020 and recorded 65 tackles, three forced fumbles and 13 pass breakups. The two signings add to a long list of additions by new GM Caserio in his first season with the team.
The Los Angeles Rams have claimed defensive end Derek Rivers off of waivers after he was released by New England over the weekend. Having appeared in eight games with the Patriots this season, Rivers has compiled four tackles and four quarterback hits to go along with 1.5 sacks. Not yet having started a game in his NFL career, Rivers figures to be merely a depth piece for the Rams Defense, albeit one that has the size to be a consistent pass-rusher. Los Angeles' defensive group has earned itself weekly consideration due to its sack potential, currently tied for third in the NFL with 32 sacks as a group. It's unclear if Rivers will be active for Sunday's game against San Francisco at this stage, but fantasy managers in need of a streamer option in season-long formats can put the Rams in consideration.
