The Dallas Cowboys have told defensive tackle Dontari Poe and cornerback Daryl Worley that they'll be released on Wednesday if the team cannot find a trade partner for them, according to sources. With Dallas sitting at 2-5 and with an atrocious defense, they're making drastic changes. It started on Tuesday when they shipped veteran defensive end Everson Griffen to the Lions in a trade. The moves will allow some of the team's younger players to get some valuable experience in what is shaping up to be a lost season in Big D. The Cowboys Defense ranks 27th in the NFL in total fantasy points through seven weeks and they have allowed the most points (243) in the league as well. Stay far away from them in Week 8 against the Eagles.
The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to basic terms on a deal for defensive tackle Dontari Poe on Wednesday, according to a source. The two sides are finalizing the language of the contract, but a deal will get done. Poe, 30 this fall, was a first-team All-Pro in 2013 and 2014 with the Chiefs. He had four sacks, seven tackles for loss and six QB hits in 11 games (10 starts) for the Panthers last season. He's a big-bodied run-stuffer that will beef up Dallas' defensive line next year, but he doesn't have much appeal in IDP leagues, as he had just 22 tackles (15 solo) last year and 17 combined tackles in 2018.
Cowboys Looking At Dontari Poe, Ndamukong Suh, Others
The Dallas Cowboys continue to look at their options to upgrade their defensive line in free agency, according to sources, and defensive tackles Dontari Poe, Ndamukong Suh, Damon Harrison and Mike Pennel are all options that they are doing their homework on as they look to add more size at the defensive tackle spot in their new defensive scheme. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys could have something done with Poe by the end of Monday. The former first-round pick (11th overall) of the Chiefs in 2012, Poe played in 11 games with the Panthers last year and had four sacks and 22 tackles (15 solo).
Dontari Poe Looking For Improvement In Year 2 With Cats
Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Dontari Poe is preparing for his second season with the team, and looking for improvement after a quiet 2018 season. Poe managed a career-low 17 tackles with one sack last season across 16 games. He believes he'll take a step forward in his second season with the organization, and he is excited to pair with fellow defensive linemen Gerald McCoy and Kawann Short. The Panthers are transitioning this offseason to a hybrid look on defense that incorporates 3-4 concepts, and he should line up at nose tackle in 2019. The Panthers will be a decent low-end No. 1 DST in most fantasy leagues if key personnel can remain healthy.
Free-agent defensive tackle is signing with the Carolina Panthers, according to a source. The Redskins also were interested in his services. The 27-year-old spent just one year in Atlanta after opening his career with five seasons in Kansas City. He had 39 combined tackles and 2.5 sacks in 2017 but remains a solid run-stopper who should be a boost to the Panthers after Star Lotulelei left in free agency.
