Commanders Open Drake Jackson's Practice Window

The Washington Commanders are opening the 21-day practice window for defensive end Drake Jackson (knee), according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The former USC standout tore his patellar tendon while playing for the San Francisco 49ers in 2023 and did not play at all in 2024. The Commanders signed him last month and immediately placed him on injured reserve, though the opening of his practice window suggests he will make his return to the field at some point in 2025. It's too little, too late for Washington, which is 3-7 and currently without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels (elbow). For fantasy purposes, the Washington D/ST will be avoidable the rest of the way.

49ers Waive Drake Jackson

The San Francisco 49ers waived former second-round defensive end Drake Jackson (knee) with a failed-physical designation on Friday, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Jackson continues to rehab a knee injury but is expected to be cleared by the start of training camp this summer. The Niners also waived offensive lineman Jalen McKenzie and cornerback Tre Tomlinson after signing offensive linemen Andre Dillard and Nicholas Petit-Frere and cornerback Dallis Flowers. Jackson, 24, the 61st overall pick in 2022 out of USC, missed the final 12 games of the 2023 season, including the postseason, and all of the 2024 campaign due to his knee injury. In his first two seasons before the injury, he had only 21 tackles (12 solo), six sacks, five tackles for loss, nine QB hits, an interception and nine pass breakups in 23 games (no starts).

Drake Jackson To Miss All Of Training Camp

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Drake Jackson (knee) will miss all of training camp as he recovers from patellar-tendon surgery that ended his season after just eight games in 2023. "We've got to see how rehab continues to go, but definitely not any time in camp," head coach Kyle Shanahan said. "Anytime you do that type of surgery that he had. those are big surgeries. They're tough to come back from. You never know how they're going to react. We always know it's a possibility to take a long time, and it's taking a long time." The second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has posted six sacks through his first 23 NFL games. Recently signed defensive end Leonard Floyd is expected to start opposite Nick Bosa to begin the 2024 campaign.
