Dustin Hopkins News
Los Angeles Chargers kicker Dustin Hopkins is expected to agree to a contract extension, with the terms of the deal being finalized by next week. The 31-year-old split time between Washington and L.A. last season, finishing by nailing 30 of his 34 attempts. He also tied Justin Tucker by sinking 13 field goals between 40 and 49 yards. Nevertheless, Hopkins isn't the most consistent option at the position. Still, he at least warrants consideration for the fantasy managers who elect to wait until the end of fantasy drafts before choosing a kicker.
The Los Angeles Chargers signed free agent kicker Dustin Hopkins to a contract on Tuesday. He was released by the Washington Football Team last week and ultimately landed in Los Angeles. The 31-year-old was 12-for-14 on his field-goal tries and 10-for-12 on extra points through the first six games of this season. Hopkins should see an increase in fantasy value with the Chargers' high-octane offense. Fantasy managers searching for a kicker can add Hopkins off the waiver wire as he should be a solid option for the rest of the year. Kicker Tristan Vizcaino was released in a corresponding move.
The Washington Football Team released kicker Dustin Hopkins on Wednesday and promoted Chris Blewitt to the 53-man active roster from the practice squad. Blewitt will take over as the primary kicker in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers. He won't be a recommended streamer in his first NFL game. Hopkins has spent his entire career with Washington since 2015 and has made 84% of his 194 field-goal attempts in that span. The 31-year-old was 12-for-14 on his field-goal tries and 10-for-12 on extra points through the first six games of this season, but Washington has elected to move on in favor of Blewitt. It remains to be seen if they will bring in more kicking competition, but for now, fantasy managers can avoid the kicking position in D.C.
