Houston Texans safety Justin Reid said he has spoken to head coach Bill O'Brien about his brother, free-agent Eric Reid. O'Brien was positive about Eric Reid, but it's unclear if the Texans will actually sign him. The 28-year-old was the 18th overall pick of the 49ers in the 2013 draft and made the Pro Bowl in his rookie season. He spent the last two years in Carolina, recording a career-high 130 tackles (97 solo), seven tackles for loss, five QB hits, six passes defensed, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in 16 games. Reid has 11 career interceptions in his seven seasons in the NFL. Houston needs as much help as they can get in the secondary.
Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid has had a great season. He's 10th among defensive backs in fantasy points the last five weeks with 35 tackles (26 solo), two sacks and a forced fumble. He figures to be busy against the New Orleans Saints, and he makes for a solid DB1 play in individual defensive player leagues.
The Carolina Panthers signed free-agent safety Eric Reid to a one-year deal on Thursday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 26-year-old will help with the loss of Da'Norris Searcy after he went on Injured Reserve. Reid played five seasons with the 49ers and started 69 of 70 career games, earning All-Rookie honors in 2013. He had 66 tackles, two interceptions, four passes defensed and a fumble recovery in 13 games for San Fran last year. He will surely be a boost for Carolina's secondary.
Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry (heel) "probably won't" play in Week 1 against the Chargers, according to head coach Andy Reid. Reed will be listed as doubtful on the final injury report. The Chiefs had been listing Berry as day-to-day this week, but it never looked realistic that he'd suit up. His expected absence is a bad sign for an already thin Chiefs secondary, and it upgrades the fantasy value of quarterback Philip Rivers and his receivers.
