Seahawks Place George Fant On IR, Activate Abraham Lucas From PUP

The Seattle Seahawks placed offensive tackle George Fant (knee) on Injured Reserve and activated offensive tackle Abraham Lucas (knee) from the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list on Wednesday, according to NFL.com. Lucas played in just six games last season and has yet to play a snap in 2024, but it looks like he's nearing a return. Fant has played just 30 snaps this year, so his absence is not likely to make a significant impact. Lucas, a 2022 second-round pick out of Washington State, is expected to occupy the starting right tackle job when he's fully back in action, and he could provide an upgrade in protection for quarterback Geno Smith and run blocking for running backs Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet.

Seahawks Activate George Fant From Injured Reserve

The Seattle Seahawks activated offensive tackle George Fant (knee) from Injured Reserve on Saturday ahead of Sunday's divisional contest against the visiting Los Angeles Rams in Week 9. Fant will be appearing in his first game since injuring his knee in the season-opening win over the Denver Broncos. Nose tackle Cameron Young (knee) was placed on IR to make room on the 53-man roster for Fant, while cornerback Josh Jobe and receiver Cody White were also elevated from the practice squad. Fant has been practicing the last two weeks and could immediately jump back to the starting spot at right tackle on Sunday against LA. If the Seahawks aren't comfortable throwing Fant back in there right away, rookie Michael Jerrell could make a third straight start.

George Fant To IR With Knee Injury

Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle George Fant (knee) was placed on injured reserve Saturday ahead of the team's Week 3 home matchup against the Miami Dolphins. In a corresponding move, the Seahawks signed tackle McClendon Curtis off their practice squad and to the active roster. Fant suffered a knee injury in Seattle's victory over the Denver Broncos back in Week 1. Last Sunday, he did not suit up for the matchup against the New England Patriots and was a limited participant in all three Seahawks practices this week. Now, he'll miss the next four games, with the team's Week 7 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons as his earliest possible return date. Stone Forsythe will hold down the starting RT job protecting quarterback Geno Smith's front side in his absence. Despite the minimal sample of 13 snaps, Fant is Seattle's second-highest-rated offensive lineman per PFF (65.8).

George Fant Ruled Out For Rest Of Week 1

Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle George Fant (knee) won't return to Sunday's game against the Broncos. The situation certainly didn't look good, as the veteran couldn't put weight on his leg. He also needed assistance to the locker room. Fant, who signed with the team in March, was brought in to bolster an offensive line that isn't loaded with talent. With that said, there will likely be an update soon. However, any injury to the offensive line isn't good news for Geno Smith and company.

George Fant Signs One-Year Deal With Texans

The Houston Texans signed free-agent offensive tackle George Fant to a one-year deal with a maximum value of $4 million on Friday, according to a league source. Fant chose the Texans over other NFL teams' offers after he worked out in Houston earlier this week. The Texans are adding some tackle insurance with fourth-year offensive lineman Charlie Heck (undisclosed) currently on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Fant spent the last three seasons with the New York Jets, starting 36 of 37 games. However, he started just seven games in 2022 due to a knee injury that knocked out most of his season.

George Fant To Work Out With Titans

The Tennessee Titans will bring in former New York Jets offensive tackle George Fant for a workout on Saturday, according to sources. There's a good chance he'll sign, assuming all goes well with his workout. Titans starting right tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere is suspended for the first six games of the season, so Fant could step in immediately and fill the gap on the offensive line. The 31-year-old Fant has experience at both left and right tackle, although he was limited to just eight games (seven starts) with the New York Jets in 2022 due to a knee injury. In six NFL seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and Jets, Fant has played in 83 games and made 60 starts.

George Fant Has Discussed Extension With Jets

New York Jets offensive tackle George Fant said he has discussed a contract extension with the team. Fant is entering the final year of his current contract in 2022, and it appears the Jets are willing to extend him after he stepped up at left tackle last year in the absence of Mekhi Becton. The 29-year-old veteran performed well enough in 2021 that he will enter training camp this summer in a competition with Becton for the starting left tackle spot. Fant has experience at both tackle spots in the NFL, but he thinks his best spot is on the quarterback's blind side. He spent the last two years in New York after spending the first three years of his career with the Seattle Seahawks.

George Fant In Agreement With Jets

The New York Jets agreed to a three-year, $30 million deal with former Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle George Fant on Monday. The deal includes $13.7 million in guarantees. Given the Jets weak offensive line in 2018, Fant will likely be asked to start at either right or left tackle in 2020. The 27-year-old has started just seven of 16 games in each of the last two seasons with Seattle and hasn't been very consistent, which is more bad news for running back Le'Veon Bell's chances at bouncing back next season. Gang Green should be looking to bolster their O-line through the draft in order to keep quarterback Sam Darnold upright.

George Fant Suffers Sprained Ankle

Seattle Seahawks offensive lineman/tight end George Fant went down with an ankle sprain in Thursday's game that head coach Pete Carroll described as "legit." While that's not a medical definition, it gives nothing but bad feelings about Fant's timetable. Fant is a hybrid player for Seattle, often working as a sixth offensive lineman/blocking tight end, and if he's lost for a significant amount of time, especially if it's the type of sprain that nags and lingers, that could cause some flux in Seattle's roster decisions for the start of the year. More information will come soon, but for now, expect Russell Wilson to be real interested in Fant's condition.

George Fant Catches First Career Pass

It was a big day for Seattle Seahawks big man George Fant. A backup offensive lineman by trade, Fant has been regularly used as an eligible receiver this season, often running short routes. All those extra sprints finally paid off on Monday night as Fant was rewarded with his first NFL reception. Unfortunately, the catch was quickly followed by a stark reminder that its nerve-wracking having the ball. Fant tried to make a dash to the first-down marker and stumbled and tumbled his way to the ground a couple yards short before he was tagged by a defender. Fant is unlikely to see regular catches, but it was a celebrated moment for the whole team.
