George Fant News
The Houston Texans signed free-agent offensive tackle George Fant to a one-year deal with a maximum value of $4 million on Friday, according to a league source. Fant chose the Texans over other NFL teams' offers after he worked out in Houston earlier this week. The Texans are adding some tackle insurance with fourth-year offensive lineman Charlie Heck (undisclosed) currently on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Fant spent the last three seasons with the New York Jets, starting 36 of 37 games. However, he started just seven games in 2022 due to a knee injury that knocked out most of his season.
The Tennessee Titans will bring in former New York Jets offensive tackle George Fant for a workout on Saturday, according to sources. There's a good chance he'll sign, assuming all goes well with his workout. Titans starting right tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere is suspended for the first six games of the season, so Fant could step in immediately and fill the gap on the offensive line. The 31-year-old Fant has experience at both left and right tackle, although he was limited to just eight games (seven starts) with the New York Jets in 2022 due to a knee injury. In six NFL seasons with the Seattle Seahawks and Jets, Fant has played in 83 games and made 60 starts.
New York Jets offensive tackle George Fant said he has discussed a contract extension with the team. Fant is entering the final year of his current contract in 2022, and it appears the Jets are willing to extend him after he stepped up at left tackle last year in the absence of Mekhi Becton. The 29-year-old veteran performed well enough in 2021 that he will enter training camp this summer in a competition with Becton for the starting left tackle spot. Fant has experience at both tackle spots in the NFL, but he thinks his best spot is on the quarterback's blind side. He spent the last two years in New York after spending the first three years of his career with the Seattle Seahawks.
