The Philadelphia Eagles signed free-agent quarterback Ian Book to their practice squad on Thursday after he visited with the team on Wednesday, according to sources. Jalen Hurts (concussion) was listed as a DNP on Wednesday's estimated practice report, while backup Kenny Pickett (ribs) was limited. With Philly's QB room banged up heading into their Week 17 tilt versus the division-rival Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, the Eagles now have extra QB insurance with Tanner McKee and Book. Fantasy managers that have been riding Hurts all year should be a bit worried that he won't be cleared to play this weekend. You should have a backup plan in place in case Hurts doesn't gain clearance from an independent neurologist later this week. If anyone but Hurts is under center on Sunday leading the Eagles' offense, it will be bad news for running back Saquon Barkley and receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
The Seattle Seahawks worked out quarterback Ian Book, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports. The Saints drafted Book as a fourth-round pick in the 2021 draft and he has since spent time with the Eagles, Patriots, and Chiefs. With Geno Smith and Sam Howell solidified as the starter and backup at the quarterback position, the Seahawks likely view Book as a depth option. He should not be fantasy-relevant even if he were to sign with Seattle.
The San Francisco 49ers are working out free-agent quarterback Ian Book on Tuesday, according to a source. Book found himself on the open market when he was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles during training camp. The 25-year-old former fourth-round pick by the New Orleans Saints in 2021 out of Notre Dame has made just one start (in his rookie season) with the Saints and went 12-for-20 for 135 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. If he lands in San Francisco, he'll join the team's practice squad and serve as QB depth behind Brock Purdy, Sam Darnold and Brandon Allen.
The Philadelphia Eagles claimed quarterback Ian Book off waivers from the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday. The Saints waived Book on roster cutdown day on Tuesday, but he'll resurface quickly in Philadelphia. The 24-year-old fourth-round pick went 12-for-20 for 135 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in a 20-3 loss to the Miami Dolphins in 2021 in the only start of his rookie campaign. With the Eagles, he'll serve as the No. 3 signal-caller behind starter Jalen Hurts and backup Gardner Minshew.
The New Orleans Saints released quarterback Ian Book on Tuesday, according to a source. Book will be a practice-squad target if he clears waivers. In the team's preseason finale last Friday against the Los Angeles Chargers, the 24-year-old went 11-for-15 for 81 yards and a touchdown, also adding a 50-yard run. The Saints will roll with starter Jameis Winston and backup Andy Dalton into Week 1 of the regular season, and Book would be the third option if he rejoins the team. The former fourth-round pick last year started one game in his rookie season in 2021, going 12-for-20 for 135 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in a 20-3 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
Ian Book, Only QB To Play Friday Against Green Bay
New Orleans Saints quarterback Ian Book went 16-for-28 in pass attempts for 138 yards, one touchdown, and one interception while rushing for 49 yards on seven attempts in Friday's 20-10 preseason loss to the Green Bay Packers. The 24-year-old was the lone quarterback to play in Friday's contest. He connected with rookie wide receiver Chris Olave for a 20-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter. This performance does not mean much for fantasy production, but it was good to see a connection with Olave. Look for Jameis Winston to potentially start in the third preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers to give an honest look at this Saints offense.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Ian Book went 12-for-20 for 135 yards and two picks in Monday's loss to Miami. He also added three carries for six yards. Book was making his first NFL start as Trevor Siemian and Taysom Hill ended up on the COVID list this past week. The rookie struggled nevertheless and didn't inspire much hope that he can be a starter going forward. As long as one of the other QBs clears the COVID list, Book won't be the starter going forward, hence eliminating any fantasy value.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Ian Book is not a strong fantasy option in Week 16. The 23-year-old rookie is preparing to make his first NFL start on Monday with QBs Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian on the COVID list. The QB will have to play a Dolphins squad that is somewhat stingy to fantasy quarterbacks, so it's best to avoid a rookie making his first NFL start for fantasy.
Taysom Hill On COVID List, Ian Book To Start Monday
New Orleans Saints quarterback Taysom Hill is being placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday and will miss Monday night's game against the Miami Dolphins. Trevor Siemian also went on the COVID list on Thursday, so rookie Ian Book will start in Week 16 against the Miami Dolphins. It will be the fourth QB the Saints have used this season. The Dolphins defense/special teams just became a lot more interesting as a streamer in what is the fantasy football semifinals in a lot of leagues. Book, a fourth-round pick out of Notre Dame, will be making his first career start in the NFL. The aggressive Miami defense will be licking their chops in this one. Fantasy managers need to downgrade all of New Orleans' offensive skill players, including do-it-all running back Alvin Kamara.
With the 133rd pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Saints have finally addressed their quarterback position, grabbing Notre Dame passer Ian Book. With all-time great quarterback Drew Brees retiring, there are lots of questions about what the post-Brees era looks like. The expectation is Jameis Winston starts in 2021, but there's no guarantee that he's a long-term option for the franchise. Could Book be the guy? He completed 63.8 percent of his passes in college with 72 touchdowns and 20 interceptions, plus added 17 rushing scores. He's an athletic player, but there are valid concerns about how he plays from the pocket. He's probably not the future for the Saints, though he could be a valuable backup.
