Free-agent quarterback Jacob Eason is signing with the New York Giants on Tuesday. The Giants are without Daniel Jones (knee) for the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL, and Tyrod Taylor (ribs) was recently placed on Injured Reserve and could be out for the season, too. Undrafted rookie Tommy Devito has played in each of their last two games in relief of Jones and Taylor, completing just 17 passes for 174 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Eason spent time with the Colts, Seahawks, Panthers, and 49ers during his first three years in the NFL. Although he's thrown just 10 passes in the regular season, he could make his way to the starting quarterback role given the shaky situation the G-Men are facing.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Jacob Eason has been released by the organization on Thursday. The former fourth round pick has seen very little NFL action since being drafted in 2020 by the Indianapolis Colts. The 25-year-old has completed 5-of-10 passing attempts for 84 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions in two career appearances. Possibly, Eason will catch on as a second string or more than likely a third string with another organization. He's still young enough to turn around his career, but he needs to find the right fit for himself.
The Carolina Panthers signed quarterback Jacob Eason to a Reserve/Futures deal on Tuesday. Eason began the 2022 season with the Seattle Seahawks but was cut before the season and signed with the Panthers practice squad. He served as QB insurance for Carolina behind Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and P.J. Walker in 2022 and got into just one game in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams, completing three of his five attempts for 59 yards and an interception. The 25-year-old was eventually cut by Carolina and landed on the San Francisco 49ers practice squad late in the year before being cut this month. Eason will return to Carolina for now to continue serving as QB depth.
The Carolina Panthers signed former Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Jacob Eason to their practice squad on Wednesday, according to a source. Eason became available after the Seahawks cut him on roster cutdown day on Tuesday. The 24-year-old signal-caller was originally a fourth-round selection by the Colts in 2020. He played in just one game last year and went 2-for-5 for 25 yards and one interception. Eason will provide the Panthers with more quarterback depth in 2022 behind Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and P.J. Walker.
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Jacob Eason went 17-for-35 with 141 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and zero interceptions during Thursday's preseason loss to the Chicago Bears. He was sacked once and added just one rushing yard in the contest. Eason played all of the second half but remains penciled into the No. 3 role in the Seattle offense. He is a longshot to make the Week 1 roster and has no fantasy relevance, other than as a low-end DFS play during the final preseason game.
The Seattle Seahawks claimed quarterback Jacob Eason off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday. Eason was waived on Tuesday when the Colts activated Sam Ehlinger (knee) from Injured Reserve, but it didn't take him long to find a landing spot. The Seahawks needed a backup behind Geno Smith with Russell Wilson (finger) on Injured Reserve, and Eason will be that man. The Seahawks also have Jake Luton as an option at the position on the practice squad if anything were to happen to Smith while Wilson is sidelined. There's no guarantee that the 23-year-old Eason will stick around in Seattle once Wilson is healthy enough to return as the starter.
The Indianapolis Colts placed wide receiver Parris Campbell (foot) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday and also waived quarterback Jacob Eason and defensive tackle Chris Williams. Kicker Michael Badgley was elevated to the active 53-man roster and quarterback Sam Ehlinger was activated from Injured Reserve. The injury bug hit Campbell yet again in the Week 6 win over the Houston Texans, but he caught his only target for a 51-yard touchdown before leaving the game. The 24-year-old will miss at least the next three weeks of action after catching 10 of his 17 targets for 162 yards and the one touchdown in five games this year. With T.Y. Hilton back in the fold, Zach Pascal should operate as the No. 3 receiver in the Colts offense behind Hilton and Michael Pittman Jr.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacob Eason is among the team's inactives as a healthy scratch for Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins. Brett Hundley was named as the backup to Carson Wentz (ankles) last week against the Tennessee Titans, so it appears as though Hundley has surpassed Eason on the QB depth chart. Wentz sprained both of his ankles in the Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, but he played the entire game last week against the Tennessee Titans and is active again this week. If Wentz were to suffer an in-game setback, it will be Hundley controlling the offense, not Eason. Rookie sixth-rounder Sam Ehlinger (knee) was designated to return from Injured Reserve earlier this week.
Brett Hundley Moves Past Jacob Eason On Depth Chart
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Brett Hundley will remain the team's backup in Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins, and he has officially moved past Jacob Eason on the QB depth chart. The Colts were considering using a combination of Hundley and Eason in Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans, but Carson Wentz (ankles) ended up playing in the loss. The former Green Bay Packers backup will now be the next man up if Wentz aggravates his ankles or suffers a new injury moving forward. The 28-year-old has played in 18 games (nine starts) in his three NFL seasons and hasn't thrown a pass in a regular season game since 2019 with the Arizona Cardinals.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacob Eason saw most of the team's first half reps under center during Friday's 27-17 win over the Detroit Lions in their preseason finale. The second-year quarterback out of Washington played turnover-free football but failed to find the end zone, completing 10-of-14 pass attempts for 74 yards. Eason had an opportunity to hit rookie wide receiver Mike Strachan in the left corner of the end zone but failed to convert it, which led to the Colts settling for a field goal. Overall, Eason looked the part of a competent backup to Carson Wentz, assuming Wentz will be on the field against the Seattle Seahawks for Week 1.
