Jacquizz Rodgers News
Buccaneers third-down running back Jacquizz Rodgers stole the production from starting back Peyton Barber on Sunday. Rodgers didn't exactly usurp Barber but certainly was more effective throughout the game. Barber's inability to operate in open-space as a pass-catcher hurts his value. Rodgers is more fit for the 2-minute offense Tampa ran towards the end of the game. Rodgers ended the day with seven catches for 55 yards and a rushing touchdown while Barber rushed 17 times for just 43 yards. Hopefully, Barber wasn't trusted in most fantasy championships against a tough Cowboys defense. These unfortunate scenarios exemplify why running back committees are best to avoid, despite most of the league trending towards it.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Jacquizz Rodgers was oddly reliable in the Bucs 16-3 loss to the Redskins. Rodgers rushed only once for no gain, but caught eight passes for 102 yards. He saw a team-high eight targets as the third down back behind Peyton Barber. Rodgers did fumble once which ended up hurting the Bucs, but besides that he looked great. However, Rodgers is not normally a reliable fantasy option and should be left on the waiver wire.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Peyton Barber, who led the team in rushing last year with a career-high 423 yards, worked hard on his physique in the offseason in order to try and remain the starter, even after the Bucs drafted Ronald Jones in the second round. Barber also had three touchdowns and 3.9 yards per carry on 108 carries while adding 16 catches (7.1 yards per catch). General manager Jason Licht continues to have confidence in Barber, but the presence of Jones could change things. In order to get faster, Barber went on a strict diet in the offseason and trimmed weight. I took my excess fat and turned it into lean muscle, Barber said. Ive been more prepared for my diet. Im still a power back but this year Im faster and quicker than people think. I feel like Im only going to keep getting faster. At the Combine I ran a 4.62 or a 4.64, and then at my pro day I ran a 4.58. Im getting closer to 4.5 right now. It remains to be seen who will be the starter in the backfield for the Bucs in 2018, but that could be sorted out in training camp. The best bet is that both Barber and Jones split the workload, with Jacquizz Rodgers also pitching in. Tampa's backfield could be frustrating for fantasy owners.
