Matthew Judon News
New England Patriots linebackers Matt Judon and Ja'Whaun Bentley were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, throwing their status for Sunday's game against Jacksonville into flux. Judon's first season in New England has earned him his third consecutive Pro Bowl nomination, as he has amassed a career-high 12.5 sacks across 15 games (all starts) thus far. Bentley has been a vital member of the Patriots defense, racking up 88 tackles, five quarterback hits, and three forced fumbles across 14 games in his own right. With multiple dominant performances under their belt in 2021, New England's defensive unit enters the final weeks of the year in must-start territory for season-long finals matchups, especially in Week 17 with a struggling Jags offense on tap. The appeal of the Patriots' defense from a DFS perspective largely lies in Judon's availability, so fantasy managers in that market will want to check if he is able to clear protocols in time to suit up.
The New England Patriots are signing former Baltimore Ravens pass-rusher Matt Judon to a four-year, $56 million deal on Monday. His contract includes $32 million over the first two years. The Patriots are also adding former Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Jalen Mills to a four-year, $24 million deal with $9 million guaranteed. Along with the additions of Judon and Mills, New England also added defensive tackle Davon Godchaux to an undisclosed deal. The Patriots aren't being shy about spending early on in free agency, and Judon is an immediate upgraded to their defense as an elite edge rusher. The 28-year-old had 51 tackles (32 solo) and six sacks in 14 games in 2020. With the three additions, New England's defense will surely be on the map as a starting unit in fantasy in 2021.
Baltimore Ravens pass-rusher Matt Judon (illness) and cornerback Marcus Peters (back) both were unable to participate in Tuesday's walk-through practice. The Ravens are likely just being cautious and holding Judon and Peters back early in the week ahead of the Divisional Round matchup against the Bills on Saturday. Peters had four solo tackles and has picked off passes in each of the last two weeks. They'll certainly need him to help slow down Bills quarterback Josh Allen and No. 1 wideout Stefon Diggs. Judon, a Pro Bowler each of the last two seasons, had 50 combined tackles, 21 QB hits and six sacks in 14 games this season. Baltimore's defense has been strong all year and could surprise against a high-flying Bills offense, especially with a chance for inclement weather in Buffalo this weekend.
