Mike Boone News
The Denver Broncos activated running back Mike Boone from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday and placed fullback/tight end Andrew Beck (elbow) on Injured Reserve and waived running back Damarea Crockett in corresponding moves. Boone was put on the COVID list on Dec. 10 and missed the team's last two games. The former Minnesota Vikings running back has played in only five games this year and has played 24 total offensive snaps, with 17 of those coming in his last game in Week 13 when he had four carries for 35 yards and caught his only target for 19 yards. Boone will go back to serve as the No. 3 back behind Melvin Gordon and rookie Javonte Williams in Week 16 against the division-rival Las Vegas Raiders. Boone would probably need injuries to both Gordon and Williams to become fantasy relevant.
Denver Broncos running back Mike Boone stepped into the RB2 role behind rookie Javonte Williams in the Sunday night loss to the Kansas City Chiefs with Melvin Gordon (hip, shoulder) inactive. Boone only had five touches on the night (four carries, one catch) compared to Williams' 29, but he looked explosive and fresh when he was called upon. On his four carries, Boone totaled 35 yards (8.8 yards per carry), and he caught his lone target for a 19-yard gain. The 26-year-old was basically used to spell the impressive Williams in this one, and that would likely continue to be the case if Gordon misses time, which won't give Boone any standalone fantasy value. If Gordon returns in Week 14, Boone will have an even smaller role as the RB3.
Denver Broncos running back Mike Boone is expected to be the team's No. 2 running back in Week 13 against the Kansas City Chiefs with Melvin Gordon (hip, shoulder) doubtful to play on Sunday night. But with the impressive rookie Javonte Williams expected to handle the bulk of the backfield work this weekend, there probably won't be enough meaningful touches left for Boone, who has just one catch for three yards in four games played due to injuries in his first season in Denver. The 26-year-old has yet to see a carry in 2021 after coming off Injured Reserve in Week 6. In his three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, Boone averaged 5.3 yards per carry on 71 rushing attempts for 379 yards and four touchdowns while adding seven catches for 28 yards on nine targets. He won't have any standalone fantasy value in his most prominent role of the year.
