Mike Boone Joining Panthers Active Roster

The Carolina Panthers are signing Mike Boone to the active 53-man roster, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. The 29-year-old was called up to the active roster in Week 1 and rushed four times for seven yards. He has totaled 546 rushing yards and four rushing scores since entering the league in 2018. Carolina is fresh off a disastrous 47-10 blowout at the hands of the New Orleans Saints and running backs Miles Sanders, Chubba Hubbard, and Boone combined for just 43 total rushing yards. There could be a three-man committee in Carolina until Jonathon Brooks (knee) comes off the PUP list, but with how bad the offense looked in Week 1, there's a good chance none of them have fantasy value in 12-team leagues.

Mike Boone Rushes Eight Times In Loss

Carolina Panthers running back Mike Boone rushed the ball eight times for 34 yards in the team's loss to the New England Patriots, leading the team in touches and yards on the night. Boone also reeled in three catches for 13 yards through the air. The 29-year-old signed with Carolina in January of last season but remained on the practice squad for the entirety of the 2023 season. Boone will look to find his way onto the 53-man roster while rookie Jonathan Brooks remains on the PUP list but is firmly off the fantasy radar heading into the 2024 season.

Texans Waive Mike Boone

The Houston Texans waived running back Mike Boone on Monday and added defensive tackle Teair Tart off waivers from the Tennessee Titans in a corresponding move, according to a source. In nine games with Houston this year, Boone only saw five rushing attempts for 23 yards and caught seven of nine targets for 40 yards in the passing game for the Texans. He had not been on the active game-day roster since Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals. Dare Ogunbowale remains the team's No. 3 RB behind Devin Singletary and second-year man Dameon Pierce. Tart missed Week 15 with the Titans due to personal reasons and will now operate as interior defensive line depth for the Texans.

Mike Boone Temporarily Released Then Re-Signed

Houston Texans running back Mike Boone was temporarily released by the team but then quickly re-signed, according to beat writer Aaron Wilson. Wilson described the move as "roster gymnastics" as Boone re-signed with the team for the same two-year deal he inked in the offseason. It definitely makes sense for the Texans to keep the veteran running back around to bolster the RB room behind Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary, especially after Boone showed so well during preseason. He doesn't hold much fantasy value at the moment but could quickly gain traction if anything happened to Pierce or Singletary.

Mike Boone Leads Houston With 77 Scrimmage Yards In Preseason Finale

Houston Texans running back Mike Boone had a game-high 51 rush yards on seven carries and had an electric 11-yard touchdown run in Sunday's 17-13 preseason win over the New Orleans Saints. He also caught four passes for 26 yards. The Texans signed running back Mike Boone to a two-year deal this offseason. With Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary locked into the top two running back slots on offense, Boone was likely signed to be RB3. The Texans also brought in competition in Larry Rountree III and Dare Ogunbowale to compete with Boone for the RB3 job. But after Sunday's preseason victory, it appears that role should go to Boone. The veteran had a solid game for Houston and should have a safe roster spot now, especially given his importance on special teams. He spent the first three years of his career with the Minnesota Vikings before signing a two-deal with the Denver Broncos in 2021. Despite a new team, Boone probably shouldn't be drafted in most leagues this season.

Mike Boone Shows Burst In Preseason Action

Houston Texans running back Mike Boone had just five carries for 12 yards in Saturday's 28-3 preseason loss to the Miami Dolphins. He struggled to get anything going on the ground but did capture four receptions for 35 yards on five targets. He signed a two-year, $3.1 million contract with Houston during the offseason. Currently slated to be third on the Texans' running back depth chart behind Dameon Pierce and Devin Singletary, Boone will have one final chance to make his mark in the team's preseason finale next week versus the New Orleans Saints.

Mike Boone Looks Good In Preseason Opener

In last week's preseason opener against the New England Patriots, Houston Texans running back Mike Boone was decisive and fast and finished with 25 rushing yards on four carries. He also caught one pass for seven yards. His performance solidified his chances of earning the No. 3 RB job behind starter Dameon Pierce and top backup Devin Singletary. "He's an explosive runner," head coach DeMeco Ryans said. "He has dynamic speed. He showed a little glimpse of that in the game, and he has continued to move forward. I think he's doing some good things for us." The 28-year-old former undrafted free agent had 24 carries for 102 yards and no touchdowns in nine games (zero starts) for the Denver Broncos in 2022. Unless one of Pierce or Singletary miss time with an injury this year, Boone will be mostly off the fantasy radar.

Mike Boone To Sign With Texans

Former Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos running back Mike Boone is expected to sign with the Houston Texans when the new league year begins on Wednesday, March 15. Boone totaled 198 yards on 33 touches in 2022, but spent two stints on the Injured Reserve list. Boone won't have much fantasy value in 2023, but he'll serve as depth to emerging running back Dameon Pierce and will have a role on special teams.

Mike Boone Placed On Injured Reserve

Denver Broncos running back Mike Boone (ankle) has been placed on the injured reserve. The 27-year-old was carted off the field during Sunday's Week 14 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs. This ankle injury will force Boone to miss the final four games of the regular season. That being said, Latavius Murray and Marlon Mack should split up a majority of the carries in the backfield. The Broncos will likely elevate Devine Ozigbo from the practice squad to be the No. 3 back in Denver. Fantasy managers shouldn't bother adding Ozigbo considering Murray and Mack will hold most of the value.

Mike Boone Unlikely To Return This Year

Denver Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett said that "it doesn't look good" for running back Mike Boone (ankle) to return this season after he was carted off in the Week 14 loss to the division-rival Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday with an ankle injury. If Boone does indeed miss the final four games, Denver will likely elevate Devine Ozigbo from the practice squad to the active roster as the No. 3 back behind Latavius Murray and Marlon Mack. The 27-year-old Boone has just 24 carries for 102 yards while catching nine passes for 96 yards in nine games in his second season in Denver. Mack had a 66-yard touchdown reception on Sunday, his first score since 2019, so he could see more work alongside Murray in this backfield moving forward.
