New England Patriots linebacker Raekwon McMillan (Achilles) agreed to a one-year extension on Monday. The 26-year-old recorded 105 total tackles in 2018. Yet, he hasn't been as productive ever since while also battling various injuries throughout his career. While McMillan will miss the 2023-24 campaign because of an Achilles tear, the team appears confident he'll be a valuable component on the defensive end moving forward. However, he may be running out of chances to prove he can stay healthy.
New England Patriots linebacker Raekwon McMillan (Achilles) is expected to miss the entire 2023 season after suffering an injury in practice. The 27-year-old has been diagnosed with a torn Achilles tendon. It's worth noting that it's a partially torn tendon, but it's still expected to cost him the entire season. The former second round pick also missed the 2021 season due to a torn ACL. When healthy, McMillian has been a useful contributor, but he hasn't been able to stay on the field lately. He was decent in a situational role with the Patriots last season. McMillan wasn't a starter, but the Patriots will now need to seek linebacker help after this injury.
Free-agent linebacker Raekwon McMillan is expected to sign an undisclosed one-year deal with the New England Patriots, according to a source. The Washington Football Team was also keeping tabs on the former Las Vegas Raider. McMillan was a second-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2017, but he was traded to the Raiders last year. He appeared in every game, mostly as a reserve, and finished with 27 tackles and a forced fumble. The 25-year-old has appeared in 45 career games (32 starts) and has 204 tackles, three pass breakups, three forced fumbles and nine tackles for loss. He will give the Patriots some linebacking depth.
Raekwon McMillan Walking on Crutches After Knee Injury in Early Moments
Miami Dolphins linebacker Raekwon McMillan didn't last long in his first ever NFL game. On the opening kick return against the Falcons, McMillan injured his knee on special teams and left the field. He was seen on crutches, sporting a knee brace in the locker room area. There is no official word on the severity of the injury, but it's obviously a bad sign for the rookie. McMillan was being counted on to be the Dolphins' middle linebacker after Koa Misi's recurring neck issues made him a liability. McMillan was a sleeper for IDP purposes, but it could negatively affect the entire Miami defense, as they become thin at linebacker once again.
Raekwon McMillan Could Be IDP Sleeper in Rookie Year
Miami Dolphins linebacker Raekwon McMillan will be thrown into the fire early in 2017. McMillan is slated to start at middle linebacker Week 1 for the Dolphins now that Koa Misi's season, and possibly career, are in jeopardy due to recurring neck injuries. McMillan will have to earn his spot in training camp, but he certainly has the athleticism to do so. McMillan is a second-round pick out of Ohio State who racked up over 100 tackles in each of the last two years. He should see plenty of action in his position, making him a great value in IDP leagues that run three-deep at LB.
