Sean Mannion Hangs Up Cleats, Accepts Coaching Position In Green Bay
Former Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sean Mannion is ending his nine-year NFL career to join the coaching ranks. The 2015 third-round pick is joining Matt LaFleur's staff with the Green Bay Packers as a quarterback and passing game coach. In 14 career games (three starts) Mannion completed 67 of his 110 passing attempts for 573 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. He did not play in a game in 2022 or 2023. He'll now move on to the next chapter of his football career and work with 2023 breakout quarterback Jordan Love.
The Seattle Seahawks elevated quarterback Sean Mannion from the practice squad to the active 53-man roster on Monday, a sign that starter Geno Smith (groin) will be inactive on Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. Smith was listed as questionable on the team's final Week 15 injury report with a groin injury and was considered a long shot on Monday morning to play. Mannion would give the Seahawks more QB depth behind Drew Lock, who is trending toward making his second straight start with Smith hurting. Fantasy managers that rolled the dice on Smith are probably going to have to pick up and start Lock unless they have another backup signal-caller already on their roster. Lock could actually be a decent emergency streaming option against an Eagles defense that has been generous to opposing QBs and receivers. They're also missing star cornerback Darius Slay (knee).
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sean Mannion has been elevated from the practice squad ahead of the Week 14 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. This could mean bad news for the Seahawks. Quarterback Geno Smith (groin) was unable to practice all week. Drew Lock is expected to start if Smith is unable to play. The elevation of Mannion points to Smith likely sitting out this game. If Smith sits, all of the fantasy relevant players in Seattle would take a significant hit in value with Lock under center. Mannion would be the backup, but he's not any better of an option at quarterback.
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sean Mannion has been elevated from the practice squad ahead of the Week 10 matchup versus the New Orleans Saints. The veteran quarterback will serve as the primary backup with Jaren Hall (concussion) ruled out for this game. The 31-year-old will be the next man up if Joshua Dobbs is forced to exit the contest. The former third-round pick hasn't appeared in an NFL game since 2021 with the Vikings. He can be avoided in fantasy formats with Dobbs drawing the start this week.
The Seattle Seahawks are expected to sign free-agent veteran quarterback Sean Mannion to their practice squad, according to a source. Mannion became available when the Minnesota Vikings released him during roster cutdown day on Tuesday. The 30-year-old former third-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams in 2015 has gone 67-for-110 for 573 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in 14 career games (three starts) for the Rams and Vikings in his six NFL seasons. He'll serve as the No. 3 quarterback behind Geno Smith and Drew Lock in Seattle heading into the 2022 regular season.
The Minnesota Vikings cut quarterback Sean Mannion on Tuesday, according to a source. Mannion could wind up returning to join the practice squad. The Vikings also cut Kellen Mond on Tuesday, so starter Kirk Cousins and backup Nick Mullens are the only current signal-callers on the 53-man roster. Mannion definitely outperformed Mond in the preseason, but at best, he'll be Minnesota's No. 3 if he returns to the organization. The 30-year-old former third-rounder went 34-for-57 for 315 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in four games (two starts) in his two seasons for the Vikings. Mannion has played in only 14 games (three starts) in the NFL in his six seasons.
Sean Mannion Throws For 121 Yards In Preseason Finale
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sean Mannion completed 9-of-16 passes for 121 yards in Saturday's preseason finale against the Denver Broncos. This was his final chance to give a strong showing, as he and Kellen Mond have not been all that impressive during the preseason. It looked like Mannion would once again be the backup to starter Kirk Cousins, but his position on the depth chart became a bit more unclear when the team acquired Nick Mullens from the Las Vegas Raiders. With Mannion's roster spot in question as the 53-man roster deadline looms, he is well off the fantasy radar.
The Minnesota Vikings are re-signing backup quarterback Sean Mannion to an undisclosed one-year deal on Tuesday, according to a source. The Vikings have brought back starting quarterback Kirk Cousins and now Mannion. The 29-year-old former third-round pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2015 out of Oregon State, Mannion will return to Minnesota for his fourth season. He didn't get on the field at all in 2020 and has made only two starts for the Vikings since 2019, going 34-for-57 for 315 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. In parts of 14 games over six NFL seasons, Mannion has just three starts, but Cousins values him as his backup.
Sean Mannion Throws For 189 Yards In Loss To Packers
Minnesota Vikings backup quarterback Sean Mannion got the nod when starter Kirk Cousins was placed on the reserve/COVID list for their Week 17 matchup with the Green Bay Packers. The expectations were low and the Viking offense proved why in a loss that eliminated them from playoff contention. Mannion finished the game with 189 yards and a touchdown. His 14 rushing yards were surprisingly good enough to lead the team for an offense that clearly missed Cousins. It was a fitting end to the Vikings 2021 season, which was marked by inconsistent play all year.
Minnesota Vikings backup quarterback Sean Mannion is expected to come off the Reserve/COVID-19 list and start on Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers, according to a source. Starter Kirk Cousins, who is unvaccinated, tested positive for COVID on Friday and has been ruled out for Week 17. The Vikings also have Kellen Mond and Kyle Sloter on the active roster, but they are electing to go with Mannion, who hasn't played in an NFL game since 2019. He's made just two starts in his career. Needless to say, fantasy managers will need to downgrade all of Minnesota's pass-catchers with Cousins sidelined. The Vikings will likely lean more on their ground game for as long as they can in this one. Mannion will purely be a desperation QB2 option in superflex leagues this weekend.
