Free-agent wide receiver Torrey Smith announced his retirement on Friday, wrapping up a career that included 5,141 yards and two Super Bowl titles. A prestigious deep threat during his career, Smith entered 2019 ranked third in yards per catch (16.1) among active wideouts behind DeSean Jackson (17.4) and Josh Gordon (17.3). The 30-year-old played eight seasons with the Ravens, 49ers, Eagles and Panthers. The 2011 second-round pick of Baltimore had his best season in 2013, finishing with 65 catches for 1,128 yards and four touchdowns.
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith agreed to take a pay cut of $2 million this year, according to a source. Smith was due a non-guaranteed $5 million salary in 2019 but is now owed a base salary of $2 million with $1 million more in incentives. The move creates $2 million in salary cap space. The 30-year-old remains a deep threat but had just 17 receptions for 190 yards and two touchdowns and was a fantasy non-factor in 11 games last year. Coupled with the questions surrounding quarterback Cam Newton's shoulder, Smith is only attractive in deep standard-scoring leagues, and even then he's likely to make much noise.
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith (knee) is active for Week 12 against the Seahawks. Smith has been out since Oct. 21 and should help with Devin Funchess (back) being out against Seattle. However, Smith wasn't a very big part of the passing game before his injury and will remain a WR4/5 as a boom/bust deep threat. Rookie DJ Moore will probably be quarterback Cam Newton's No. 1 passing target with Funchess being inactive.
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith (knee) hasn't played since Week 7 but is expected to suit up against the Seahawks in Week 12. Smith will be fairly low on the quarterback Cam Newton's radar and is unlikely to see a big yardage total, though he did score two touchdowns in his first seven games. Even with that being true, though, he's a low-end fantasy option this week.
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith (knee), who officially did not practice on Wednesday, worked on the side for the first time in a month. It's progress for Smith, but he's still not expected to play in Week 11 against the Lions. In his absence, rookie D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel have seen more action, although they're both still boom-or-bust WR4/5 types for fantasy owners. Smith should remain on the waiver wire in your league.
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith (knee) did not practice on Tuesday. Smith last played on Oct. 21 and doesn't seem particularly close to returning. If he sits out another game this weekend, rookie D.J. Moore will continue to serve as the No. 2 receiver across from Devin Funchess. Smith remains on the waiver wire in most leagues.
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith (knee) has been ruled out for Thursday night against the Steelers. It'll be Smith's third straight missed game. The all-or-nothing veteran receiver belongs on the waiver wire. Rookie D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel will continue to benefit in the passing game. Moore has more upside as the team's No. 2 receiver behind Devin Funchess and will be in play as a WR3 on Thursday.
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith (knee) missed practice for the second straight day on Tuesday. Smith has missed the last two games and seems primed to miss his third on a short week Thursday against the Steelers. In his absence, rookie D.J. Moore has seen much more work and will once again be in play as an upside WR4/flex on Thursday night in a decent matchup.
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith (knee) has been ruled out for Week 9 against the Buccaneers. It'll be Smith's second straight missed game. Rookie D.J. Moore stepped up in a nice way in Week 8 and should do the same again this Sunday in a juicy matchup against Tampa's extra soft secondary. Moore has big-time fantasy upside as a flex play this weekend.
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith (knee) remained out of practice for the second straight day on Thursday. Smith missed the Week 8 game and is well on his way to missing his second straight contest. Rookie D.J. Moore stepped into a bigger role and didn't disappoint. Even if Smith is able to play against the Buccaneers this weekend, Moore is the better fantasy option and was likely one of the more popular waiver additions this week.
