Tyron Johnson Totals 90 Receiving Yards Saturday

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Tyron Johnson turned six targets into five catches for 90 yards during Saturday's preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders. The 27-year-old delivered a solid outing, but it might have been too little, too late. Constructing an NFL roster is a numbers game and Johnson isn't expected to make the team. With that said, Saturday's performance will certainly make him a practice squad candidate and could even earn him a depth spot on another team's 53-man roster.

49ers Release Tyron Johnson

The San Francisco 49ers released wide receiver Tyron Johnson on Thursday. Johnson finds himself back on the free-agent market after signing with the Niners back in January. He spent time with the Houston Texans and Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, catching his only target for an eight-yard gain with the Texans. The 27-year-old pass-catcher played in four total games (one start). Johnson has played three seasons in the NFL after going undrafted. In 26 career games (one start), he has racked up 23 receptions on 32 targets for 422 yards and three touchdowns with the Los Angeles Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Raiders and Texans.

49ers Sign Tyron Johnson To Futures Deal

The San Francisco 49ers signed former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Tyron Johnson and defensive back Tre Swilling to Reserve/Futures deals on Monday. Johnson appeared in four games with the Houston Texans and Las Vegas Raiders in 2022 and caught his only target for an eight-yard gain with the Texans. The 27-year-old spent his rookie year in 2020 with the Chargers and caught 20 of his 26 targets for 398 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games (no starts). Since then, he has three catches in 14 games played. Johnson will give the Niners some more receiver depth heading into the 2023 season.

Texans Sign Tyron Johnson To Active Roster

The Houston Texans signed former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Tyron Johnson to their active roster on Tuesday, according to a source. The Raiders recently cut Johnson from the practice squad, but now he'll latch on with the Texans. He was active for two games with Las Vegas this year but wasn't targeted at all on offense and played a grand total of four offensive snaps in those two games. The 26-year-old has 22 career receptions on 31 targets for 414 yards and three touchdowns in three NFL seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Raiders. Johnson will help provide receiving depth behind Brandin Cooks, Nico Collins, Chris Moore, Phillip Dorsett and Tyler Johnson.

Jaguars Claim Tyron Johnson

The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed wide receiver Tyron Johnson off of waivers on Wednesday. Johnson, a second-year pro out of Oklahoma State, was previously waived by the Chargers on Tuesday. Johnson flashed at times in 2020, and he racked up 20 catches, 398 yards, and three touchdowns overall in 12 games. Johnson's excellent 19.9 yards per reception mark explains why the Jaguars claimed him. Following the release of Phillip Dorsett II, the team badly needed to add a speedy receiver to take over fourth wideout duties. Johnson's 4.41-second 40-yard dash speed should fit nicely in the Jaguars offense, and he projects to have sporadic fantasy value in 2021, though he is best left undrafted in most redraft formats at this point in time.

Chargers Waive Tyron Johnson; Guyton, Palmer To See More Snaps

The Los Angeles Chargers waived wide receiverTyron Johnsonon Tuesday. In a head-scratching move, Johnson was released, paving the way for wideoutsJalen Guyton and Joshua Palmer to see extended snaps. Johnson put up team-best numbers in the preseason finale, securing four of his nine targets for 41 yards. It is unclear whether another team will sign Johnson, but it is likely based on his preseason play. Although this opens up more opportunities for Guyton and Palmer, Herbert will still target Keenan Allen and running backAustin Ekeler more than the other receivers. If Mike Williams goes down with an injury, that would open up the door for Guyton or Palmer to see more playing time. Until then, both players should be left on the fantasy waiver wire.

Tyron Johnson Hauls In Four Passes

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Tyron Johnson was targeted six times in Sunday's preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. Johnson would catch four of his targets, but only picked up 11 yards. The second-year wideout is competing with fellow wide receivers Jalen Guyton and Josh Palmer for No. 3 spot behind Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. The former Oklahoma Sooner has generated some buzz in training camp and depending on where he winds up on the depth chart, Johnson could be a sleeper entering the 2021 season. The Chargers have rested all of their main starters for preseason games, but they expect to be one of the higher scoring offenses entering the season and Johnson could be worth a dart throw at the end of upcoming drafts.

Josh Palmer Outplays Tyron Johnson And Jalen Guyton

Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Josh Palmer backed up the buzz he's been getting in training camp with an impressive debut versus the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday. Palmer has been competing with Tyron Johnson and Jalen Guyton for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart and he took a big step forward on Saturday. Palmer received 17 snaps compared to 25 for Guyton and 10 for Johnson. Palmer made the most of his opportunity and caught six of his seven receptions for 36 yards. Guyton was targeted five times, but only caught two balls for 16 yards and Williams caught his lone target for two yards. All three receivers were playing without starting quarterback Justin Herbert behind center and ultimately whoever performs best in training camp with Herbert is likely to leave camp with the No. 3 role. Palmer has been one of the hottest names in Chargers camp and he should be looked at as a sleeper and a late-round target in upcoming drafts.

Tyron Johnson Misses Practice On Tuesday

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Tyron Johnson (foot/ankle) sat out during Tuesday's practice. It appeared to just be a maintenance day for the second-year wide receiver, with him being on the field to cheer on his teammates. Johnson is one of the hotter names for those looking at sleepers this season and he is competing with wide receivers Jalen Guyton and rookie Josh Palmer for the No. 3 wide receiver spot. Former Saints offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi will be calling the plays this season for the Chargers and his offensive play calling along with quarterback Justin Herbert and an improved offensive line should lead to big numbers for many members of the Chargers offense in 2021. Johnson caught 20 balls for 398 yards to go along with three touchdowns in and averaged 19.9 yards per catch in 12 games during his rookie year. Whoever wins the battle for the No. 3 spot of Johnson, Guyton and Palmer will be worth a late-round investment in what should be one of the more dynamic offenses this season.

Tyron Johnson Will Compete For No. 3 On Depth Chart

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Tyron Johnson will compete with fellow receiver Jalen Guyton for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart. Johnson had a solid rookie campaign with 20 receptions over 26 targets and 398 yards to go along with three touchdowns in 12 games. Johnson is a speedy receiver and averaged 19.9 yards per catch in his rookie year. With quarterback Justin Herbert having a good feel for down the field throws, Johnson can have a strong impact entering the 2021 season, if he can beat out Guyton for the third wide receiver spot. Johnson versus Guyton is a training camp battle that managers should keep an eye on and the winner could end up being a bargain late in drafts.
