Jake Allen Starts Against Panthers

New Jersey Devils goaltender Jake Allen (cramping) has been cleared to face the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers, on Thursday night. Allen exited the previous contest due to cramping, but he now appears to be back at 100 percent. The team is going to need some big performance from him in the upcoming games, as Devils starter Jacob Markstrom (lower body) is expected to sit out at least a couple of weeks of action. Nico Daws will dress as Allen's backup on Thursday. Before exiting Monday's clash against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Allen showed off good form by saving 23 of 24 shots. He catches the Panthers at a good time, as Paul Maurice's team finishes a back-to-back and will play a third game in four nights.

Jake Allen Exits Monday's Action With Cramps

New Jersey Devils goaltender Jake Allen (cramping) didn't complete Monday's 3-2 road victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was dealing with cramping and was replaced by Jacob Markstrom for the third period. Allen had a good day at the office before he was forced to leave, stopping 23 of 24 shots. The Devils have their first back-to-back of the season next week, on Wednesday and Thursday, and will need Allen. Luckily for the team, the veteran netminder has plenty of time to get back into game shape. Markstrom should return as the starter for Thursday's matchup against the Florida Panthers, aiming for his third consecutive win.

Jake Allen Leads The Way On Monday

New Jersey Devils goaltender Jake Allen stopped 45 of the 46 shots he saw en route to defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Jackets dominated the shot total, but Allen was able to lead the way. His lone blemish came in the final frame when Mathieu Oliver found the back of the net on a snap shot. However, Allen was able to keep the door shut following this goal to seal the victory. This outing extended his winning streak to three games. During this three-game winning streak, Allen has held a strong 1.33 GAA with a .961 save percentage. He has only allowed more than one goal in one contest during this span. Through 26 total games this season, the 34-year-old has held a 12-13-1 record and posted a .914 save percentage with a 2.53 GAA. He remains a viable streaming option in deeper formats in favorable matchups.

It has been a season of ups and downs for Allen, who is sporting an 11-13-1 record. He has allowed 2.60 goals while registering a .911 save percentage with four shutouts. Against the Blue Jackets, Allen will attempt to win a third consecutive outing for the first time this season. He has beaten Philadelphia and Edmonton in back-to-back appearances, giving up three total goals. On Monday, Allen may not need to do much to secure another victory, as Columbus has been shut out in two consecutive games and three times in its last five contests.

The Devils had a slight advantage in the shot total, but Allen was able to step up when called on. The Devils would eventually break the scoreless tie in the second frame when they scored four goals. Allen has controlled the crease over the past week as No.1 goaltender Jacob Markstrom (knee) will miss at least 4-to-6 weeks with an injury. He's battling an upper-body injury, which isn't expected to keep Allen off the ice for long. Allen became the third goalie in franchise history to record multiple shutouts within his first five games of a season. New Jersey Devils goaltender Jake Allen will take on a high-scoring Utah team on Monday. This will be Allen's second appearance of the campaign. He made a winning start to the season by beating Buffalo 3-1 with a 17-save effort in a Global Series game in Prague on Oct. 5. Allen is set to face a much more difficult task in Monday's matinee, as the Utah offense has been on fire early in the year. With three games played, Utah has already lit the lamp 16 times, with the team's power play clicking at an incredible 42.9 percent rate.

Allen was acquired before the trade deadline last week to help the Devils with their goaltending woes. Unfortunately, Allen is sporting some ugly numbers himself, with an .892 SV%, 3.65 GAA, and -8.0 GSAA. The move from Montreal to New Jersey might help, but the latter hasn't been defensively sound this year either. The 33-year-old is a desperation option in fantasy and should only be used given a good matchup, which this is not.

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jake Allen showed off great form in Monday's battle with the Sabres, stopping 36 of 37 shots in a 3-1 win. Allen was beaten by Jeff Skinner on the power play in the first period, but he then stood tall for the rest of the way and secured a second consecutive victory when Montreal scored twice in the third period.
