Matt Murray News
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Matthew Murray (undisclosed) is set to undergo "significant" surgery, and it's unclear if he can play in 2023-24. "The surgical procedure will be (to do with) something he's been dealing with," general manager Brad Treliving said on Wednesday. "It wasn't an event, but he aggravated some stuff over the summer." He added that Murray will need months, not days or weeks, to recover. Murray had multiple health issues last season and played his final game on April 2, when he suffered a concussion.
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Matthew Murray (undisclosed) will be placed on long-term Injured Reserve ahead of the 2023-2024 NHL season. The team has ruled him out indefinitely while not disclosing the nature of Murray's injury. The two-time Stanley Cup champion had all sorts of injury troubles during his debut campaign in Toronto and last played on April 2 when he sustained a head injury. Murray finished the season with a 14-8-2 record while posting a 3.01 goals-against average with a .903 save percentage and one shutout. Ilya Samsonov, who has just been handed a new one-year deal in arbitration, looks set to do the heavy lifting between the pipes for the Maple Leafs next season with Joseph Woll as his backup.
Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Matt Murray will mind the crease against Detroit Sunday after Ilya Samsonov picked up a shutout against Ottawa Saturday. Murray lost his last outing on March 25th against Carolina, allowing four goals on 27 shots. He's posted a 14-8-2 record, a 2.97 goals-against-average, and a .905 save percentage this season. Murray faced the Red Wings in November, making 40 saves on 42 shots for the 4-2 win. Detroit has lost six of the past ten games.
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Matthew Murray will start Saturday's marquee matchup against Connor McDavid and the Oilers. The 28-year-old has just returned from injury and will make only his 21st start of the season Saturday. He came back from an ankle sprain a week ago against Vancouver, and it wasn't a fun ride for Murray, who managed to save only 20 of 24 shots and took a 4-1 loss. His record for the season dropped to 11-6-2, and Murray has registered a 2.80 goals-against average with a .908 save percentage and one shutout. The Oilers have just ended Boston's 10-game winning streak and should be full of confidence, so this is a very tricky matchup for Murray.
