Rickard Rakell Out Thursday

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Rickard Rakell (lower body) was injured during the morning skate and won't play on Thursday against the Buffalo Sabres. Penguins head coach Dan Muse labeled Rakell day-to-day, so it appears he'll be fine to play for Team Sweden in the Olympics. Rakell has been quiet lately, but he's been productive overall for the Penguins, recording 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists) in 35 appearances. Rutger McGroarty will replace Rakell on the first line. The Penguins also won't have Blake Lizotte (personal) on Thursday, while Noel Acciari (illness) is a game-time decision.

Rickard Rakell Available Saturday

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Rickard Rakell (hand) was activated from Injured Reserve on Friday and will return to the lineup for Saturday's tilt against the San Jose Sharks. Due to a broken hand, Rakell was forced to sit out 20 games. He will likely go straight back into the top six and the first power-play unit. Before he was injured, Rakell was enjoying a productive start to the season. He had an early-season five-game point streak and notched three goals and five assists in nine outings. From a fantasy standpoint, Saturday's matchup is favorable for Rakell and the rest of Pittsburgh's offense, as the Sharks allow 31.3 shots and 3.25 goals per game.

Rickard Rakell Undergoes Hand Surgery

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Rickard Rakell (hand) has been ruled out for 6-8 weeks after undergoing surgery. Rakell injured his left hand on Saturday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets and immediately underwent a procedure to get it fixed. Mid-December is probably the earliest Rakell can return to game action. It's an unfortunate setback for the Swedish forward after he had a good start to the campaign. In nine outings, Rakell has produced three goals and five assists. With him sidelined, the Penguins recalled Ville Koivunen from the minors on Sunday. While Koivunen was quiet in his first couple of NHL outings this season, he has crushed it in the minors with 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in six contests.

Rickard Rakell Hurt Versus Blue Jackets

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Rickard Rakell (upper body) didn't finish Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was pulled from the game early in the third period due to an upper-body injury. While riding alongside Sidney Crosby on Pittsburgh's top line, Rakell had put together a five-game point streak before going scoreless in Saturday's contest. Overall, he has tallied eight points (three goals, five assists) in nine appearances this season. The Penguins return to action on Monday night, leaving Rakell with very little time to recover. If he can't play on Monday, Filip Hallander must be ready for a heavier workload.

Rickard Rakell Scores Goal No. 32

Pittsburgh Penguins left wing Rickard Rakell scored his 32nd goal of the season during their victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday evening. In the opening frame, Rakell found the back of the net on a wrist shot. He would then tack on the primary assist on Bryan Rust's empty-netter in the final minutes. Rakell is now just eight points away from matching his previous career-high in points (69). This is also his third campaign in which he scored at least 30 goals. Since the start of the month, Rakell has scored seven goals and added five helpers across 10 games. During this stretch, he has logged 19 shots on goal and held a solid +4 rating. Fantasy managers should continue to view Rakell as a high-upside option when looking for goals. He will look to stay busy on the scoresheet on Sunday evening against the Florida Panthers.

Rickard Rakell Absent On Monday

According to Josh Yohe of The Athletic, Pittsburgh Penguins left wing Rickard Rakell (personal) did not travel with the team to the West Coast due to a family issue. He was not in the lineup on Monday evening during their victory over the Kings and could be in danger of missing other games during the road trip. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to Thursday's contest against the Anaheim Ducks. Rakell has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, scoring 23 goals and tallied 17 helpers through 48 contests. He has also added 73 hits and 53 blocks. On Monday, Matt Nieto returned to the starting lineup, and Anthony Beauvillier moved up to the top line alongside Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust. Beauvillier has deep-league streaming appeal while Rakell is absent.

Rickard Rakell Returns Monday

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Rickard Rakell (upper body) was activated off injured reserve for Monday's game against the Minnesota Wild. It was Rakell's first game since November 19, as he missed 12 games with the injury. The 30-year-old was put in a prime position Monday, as he skated on the first line with Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel while seeing time on the second powerplay unit. Unfortunately, he did not take advantage of it tonight, registering just two shots on goal in the contest. If he continues to see this kind of deployment the points should come, and he is a solid waiver wire option right now.

Rickard Rakell Will Not Return Saturday

Pittsburgh Penguins winger Rickard Rakell (upper body) won't return Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs after it originally appeared he would. Rakell has missed 11 games with an upper-body injury suffered November 19. After a brilliant campaign last year, Rakell has put up just four assists in 17 games so far this year. When he does return, he will likely get a chance to turn things around as part of the top line with Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel and get time on the top powerplay unit. He should be added in shallow and standard leagues where he was dropped to the waiver wire as he has the chance to be a solid contributor in both points and category leagues.

Rickard Rakell Out Long-Term

Pittsburgh Penguins winger Rickard Rakell has been ruled out long-term with an upper-body injury. Rakell has struggled to perform well all season and must now patiently wait for his opportunity to return to action. He has no goals in 17 games and only four assists. Rakell's form has dropped massively, as he enjoyed a solid 60-point campaign in 2022-23. Radim Zohorna, who's impressed in limited action so far, might land in Pittsburgh's top six following Rakell's injury, with Drew O'Connor another candidate to move up in the lineup.

Rickard Rakell Scores Two Goals In Victory

Pittsburgh Penguins right wing Rickard Rakell scored two goals in Sunday's 4-2 victory against the Flyers. Rakell accounted for both goals by the Penguins in the first period of the game, while the second goal came on the power play with assists from centers Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Rakell is having his most productive season since he was a member of the Ducks during the 2017-18 campaign, with totals of 27 goals and 56 points while playing on the Penguins top line with center Sidney Crosby and left wing Jake Guentzel.

Rickard Rakell Notches Three Points Against San Jose

Pittsburgh Penguins winger Rickard Rakell played a big part in Tuesday's 3-1 win over San Jose, opening the scoring and delivering two assists. The game was all about Pittsburgh's first line, as Jake Guentzel scored twice and Sidney Crosby posted three assists. Rakell managed to put together a three-point outing after amassing only one point across his previous five appearances. It was a bad spell for the Swedish forward, but Rakell's campaign has gone well overall, as he has recorded 19 goals and 17 assists in 53 appearances.

Rickard Rakell Delivers Three Assists Against Anaheim

Pittsburgh Penguins winger Rickard Rakell had a great time versus the Ducks on Monday, finishing a 4-3 overtime victory against his former team with three assists. He had a hand on all of the team's first three goals before Sidney Crosby provided the lone helper for Jake Guentzel in overtime. Rakell has now had a nice four-game spell with two goals and three assists, jumping to 29 points for the season. The Swedish winger has been a consistent scorer on the Penguins second line, with his longest scoring drought being a three-game run near the end of 2022. Only Crosby (21) and Guentzel (18) have scored more goals than Rakell (15) for the Penguins this season.

Rickard Rakell Could Return To Action Friday

Pittsburgh Penguins winger Rickard Rakell (upper body) could be back in action on Friday against the Rangers, with the team considering him a game-time decision. He's been on the shelf since getting hurt in Game 1. Rakell put in some work at the morning skate, although he didn't take part in the line rushes, which isn't the greatest of signs regarding his potential return. At least he's close to returning now, though, and the team will need all the help they can get with Sidney Crosby (concussion) unavailable. Rakell joined Pittsburgh from Anaheim in March and made a solid contribution across 19 regular-season outings with 13 points and 38 hits.

Rickard Rakell Remains Out On Wednesday

Pittsburgh Penguins winger Rickard Rakell (upper body) was at the team's optional morning skate on Wednesday, but he won't play in Game 5 against the Rangers. Rakell was hurt early in Game 1 and is considered day-to-day. His injury was a big blow for the team, but the Penguins have rallied together and can end the series with a victory on Wednesday. Kasperi Kapanen has done a good job as Rakell's replacement on the second line. He's got only two points but is plus-four for the series, which is the best plus/minus rating among all Pittsburgh forwards.

Rickard Rakell Out Thursday

Pittsburgh Penguins winger Rickard Rakell (lower body) won't be available for Thursday's meeting with the Rangers. His postseason got off to a miserable start after he managed to skate just a handful of minutes in Game 1 before getting hurt on a hit by Ryan Lindgren. Rakell collected 13 points in 19 regular-season appearances for the Penguins and he had solidified his spot in the top six ahead of the playoffs. Jason Zucker (lower body) could replace Rakell in the lineup on Thursday, with the team considering him a game-time decision for the contest.

Rickard Rakell Makes Early Exit With Injury

Pittsburgh Penguins winger Rickard Rakell suffered an upper-body injury and logged just 4:28 of ice time in Tuesday's 4-3 triple-overtime victory against the Rangers. He took a nasty-looking hit from Ryan Lindgren early in the game and had to be helped off the ice by his teammates. Kasperi Kapanen ended up covering for Rakell on the second line for most of the night, and the line eventually produced the game-winning goal, with Kapanen and John Marino setting up Evgeni Malkin 5:58 into the third overtime. Rakell's status for Thursday's Game 2 is currently unknown.

Rickard Rakell Picks Up Three Assists

Pittsburgh Penguins winger Rickard Rakell recorded three assists on Sunday in a 3-2 overtime victory against Nashville. Sidney Crosby scored two of the goals and Jason Zucker lit the lamp as well. Rakell was a solid plus-two for the game with three shots, one block and three hits in 17:25. The former Duck has opened his Penguins career with eight points in 11 games, which is a pretty decent return, but he's actually grabbed all of his points from just three games. Pittsburgh will hope that Rakell can be a bit more consistent and pick up some momentum for the playoffs with the last few regular-season games.

Rickard Rakell Set For Penguins Debut Tuesday

Pittsburgh Penguins winger Rickard Rakell is expected to be in the lineup on Tuesday against Columbus. He was picked up during the trade deadline day on Monday and hasn't managed to spend much time with his new teammates, but Rakell will be thrown right into the action. Rakell's recent seasons haven't gone too well, with Anaheim's struggles as a team playing a big part in it, and the 28-year-old should be able to reignite his career in Pittsburgh. As a former 30-goal scorer, Rakell should be a very solid addition for a Penguins team that is battling for the top spot in the Metropolitan Division.

Rickard Rakell Acquired By Penguins Monday

Right-winger Rickard Rakell was acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday afternoon from the Anaheim Ducks. He had 16 goals and 12 assists in 51 games this season. Rakell had five goals and two assists in his final five weeks in Anaheim. Rakell expects to slot into the top six with Pittsburgh and will see power-play time. The only question may be whether he is eased into the second-man advantage unit. Rakell is a former 30-goal scorer who was on pace for 25 goals this season.

Rickard Rakell Scores In Second Straight Game Friday

Anaheim Ducks right-winger Rickard Rakell scored again on Friday night in a losing effort against the Calgary Flames. Rakell and Isaac Lundestrom connected in the late stages of the second period on Anaheim's second goal of the night. The right-winger also had four shots on goal and three scoring chances. Though it was a bit of a surprise he was not one of the first two shooters in the shootout, that does not diminish Rakell's early season start. The winger now has eight goals in just 15 games while playing nearly 21 minutes on Friday.
