5 Best Value QB/WR Stacks for DFS in Week 5

Best Value QB/WR Stacks

Each week, with the help of our premium DFS Stacking Page, we’re going to be diving into the main DFS slates for DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo to give you the QB-WR stacks that represent the best value on the board.

When possible, we’ll look to avoid throwing out the obvious names. However, just because a player is well known, that doesn’t mean they’re the easy pick when filling out your roster — and it also doesn’t mean that their price tag accurately matches their potential production. For example, last week we suggested the duo of Carolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold and wide receiver DJ Moore. This wasn’t exactly a bottom-of-the-barrel combination heading into the week, but the two significantly outscored projections. Darnold threw for 301 yards with two touchdowns and added another 35 yards and two scores on the ground. Meanwhile, Moore had eight catches for 113 yards and caught both of Darnold’s touchdown passes.

With that out of the way, here are the five combinations you should zero in on in Week 5 of the NFL regular season:

Washington Football Team vs. New Orleans Saints

  • QB – Taylor Heinicke (DraftKings: $5,900 / FanDuel: $7,300 / Yahoo: $24)
  • WR – Terry McLaurin (DraftKings: $7,400 / FanDuel: $7,400 / Yahoo: $22)

Heinicke has quietly put together a rock-solid fantasy season thus far. The Washington quarterback has thrown for 960 yards with eight touchdowns and only three interceptions, and he has also added another 87 yards and a score on the ground. The 28-year-old might not be a household name or anything, but he has proven that he can be trusted as a DFS option.

Last week, Heinicke threw for 290 yards with three touchdowns and no picks in a win over the Atlanta Falcons. He has now thrown for two or more touchdowns in three straight games, and he has thrown for at least 290 yards in two of the last three. Realistically, it’s just time to stop treating him like some kind of fluke.

New Orleans might seem like a bad matchup for Washington on paper, but the team was an absolute nightmare against the pass last week. Daniel Jones threw for 402 yards with two touchdowns in a 27-21 upset win for the New York Giants, and it’s hard to make an argument that Jones is a much better option as a passer than Heinicke right now. With that in mind, there’s some real hope for Heinicke to turn in a big performance in Week 5 — especially with this being a home game.

As for McLaurin, there’s really nothing sneaky about this pick. McLaurin is one of the best young receivers in the league, and he has been balling out all season. The 26-year-old already has 25 receptions for 354 yards and three touchdowns through four weeks. He’s seventh in the league in target share, and he’s also 35th in average target distance. That means he’s getting the ball extremely often, and he’s also doing so in spots that make a legitimate difference in fantasy.

People might be scared off by a matchup against the league’s fifth-best scoring defense, but you shouldn’t be intimidated. The Giants exposed this Saints secondary and now it’s Washington’s turn.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Tennessee Titans

You haven’t heard of anything weird going on in Jacksonville, right? Business as usual? Still, despite Urban Meyer “accidentally” having the best night of his life, it’s hard to look away from rolling with some Jaguars in a meeting with a Titans team that hasn’t put it together defensively this season.

Only six teams in the league have allowed more points per game than Tennessee this season, and the Titans’ secondary has allowed more passing yards per game than all but nine teams on the year. They’ve also given up eight touchdowns through the air this season, which is tied for the fourth-worst mark in the league.

Last week, a meeting with this Titans defense was just what the doctor ordered for Jets quarterback Zach Wilson. Wilson went into that meeting with Tennessee having thrown just two touchdown passes on the year and the rookie also had seven interceptions. Then, the 22-year-old threw for a career-high 297 yards with two touchdowns and a score against the Titans. Even without DJ Chark in the mix, you have to like Lawrence’s chances of turning in a nice performance here. After all, he is surrounded by more talent than Wilson is and the Jaguars are playing at home in this one.

Shenault happens to be coming off a six-catch, 99-yard game against the Cincinnati Bengals last week, and he figures to be the top receiver in this offense with Chark on the sidelines. Also, Jaguars offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell made it a note to say that Shenault would be getting the ball more in the coming weeks. Considering how explosive he is in the open field, that gives Shenault the opportunity to be a big-time fantasy contributor.

Lawrence hasn’t yet truly cashed in for fantasy players this season, but it’s going to happen eventually. This week might be one of his best chances of the year, and both of these guys are affordable in DFS. This combination is one of our tap values across all sites.

Chicago Bears vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Fields was 11 for 17 for 209 yards in a 24-14 win over the Detroit Lions last week, and that performance ultimately ended up being good enough for him to win the starting job for the remainder of the season. The 22-year-old obviously has his flaws right now, but last week was the most comfortable he has looked all year and Matt Nagy now gets to specifically plan an offense that plays to Fields’ strengths.

Fields has only rushed for 21 yards over the last two weeks, despite having blazing speed at the quarterback position. Those numbers are far too low for a capable runner like him, so don’t be surprised if he starts rushing for 30 or so yards per game moving forward. There are dual-threat quarterbacks making their marks all throughout this league, and Fields is next in line. He also happens to be facing a Raiders defense that hasn’t proven to be anything too special this season.

Las Vegas is allowing 28.0 points per game over the last two weeks, and the defense isn’t quite structured enough to defend a quarterback with speed. In fact, in the season opener, Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson rushed 12 times for 86 yards against this Raiders defense. Fields doesn’t have anywhere near the rushing instincts of Jackson, but he is plenty capable of reaching half of that yardage total.

When Fields goes to the air, don’t be surprised if it’s Robinson that comes through for him this week. The receiver is simply too good to continue to struggle, and it’s not like he’s not getting looks. Robinson’s 24.0% target share is just below Darnell Mooney’s 26.0%, and eventually, Robinson will overtake him for the team lead. Also, Las Vegas’ secondary isn’t one to break down too often, so that would mean less Mooney deep shots and more looks to Robinson’s reliable hands.

With neither of these two being priced to their potential, it’s worth a shot rolling with this duo.

New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys

  • QB – Daniel Jones (DraftKings: $6,000 / FanDuel: $7,400 / Yahoo: $25)
  • WR – Kenny Golladay (DraftKings: $5,900 / FanDuel: $6,200 / Yahoo: $18)

Jones is still too affordable on nearly every daily fantasy site, as the 24-year-old has more fantasy points than all but five quarterbacks this season and is coming off a career-high 402 passing yards against the Saints. Jones threw for two touchdowns in that victory over New Orleans, and he also added 27 rushing yards and a two-point conversion on the ground.

Jones’ legs have always been a huge asset for the youngster, as he has rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns this season. However, it’s Jones’ massive leap as a passer that is allowing him to take the next step as a quarterback. Jones’ completion percentage of 66.7% would easily be the highest of his career, and he’s also averaging 8.2 yards per pass attempt and has never topped 6.6 in his career. Don’t expect him to slow down much against a Cowboys defense that has given up the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season.

As for Golladay, New York’s top wideout is starting to look like the guy the Giants paid up for during the offseason. Last week, the 27-year-old had six catches for 116 yards in a win over the Saints. Golladay is all the way up to 11th in the league in average target distance, which means he’s beginning to look like the deep threat he was with the Detroit Lions. Golladay wasn’t quite himself in the first few weeks of the year, as he was dealing with a hip injury. Now, Golladay is beginning to run the full route tree that New York expects of him, and he should put up some big numbers in this meeting with Dallas.

New England Patriots vs. Houston Texans

  • QB – Mac Jones (DraftKings: $5,300 / FanDuel: $6,700 / Yahoo: $20)
  • WR – Jakobi Meyers (DraftKings: $5,600 / FanDuel: $5,900 / Yahoo: $13)

Jones played about as well as he possibly could have in a close loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last weekend. In a matchup that was all about Tom Brady’s return to New England, Jones went out and threw for 275 yards and two touchdowns In a playoff-like atmosphere. Sure, the rookie made some mistakes along the way, but it was ultimately a great showing. Now, Jones will look to build on that in the coming weeks.

This week, Jones gets to face a Houston defense that has given up the seventh-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. With that, it wouldn’t be surprising if the 23-year-old turns in the best performance of his young career in this game. The Texans aren’t a well-coached team at this point, and they’re lacking in talent all over the field. This is the type of game in which Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels can really flex their muscles and put together a convincing gameplan.

Meyers has been Jones’ go-to target early in the season, and that’s not likely to change in the near future. Heading into this week, Meyers’ 25.8% target share is the highest amongst this Patriots receiving group, with the next highest being Nelson Agholor’s 14.8%. And not only that, but only 17 receivers get a higher amount of their team’s looks than Meyers.

Overall, these two are extremely affordable across all DFS platforms this week. Also, neither of these are sexy names, so they won’t be rostered by too many players.
