Daniel Jones Won't Play During the Preseason

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones (Achilles) will not play during the preseason, according to Jonathan Jones. Head coach Shane Steichen announced the decision Tuesday as Jones continues his return from the torn Achilles that ended his 2025 season in Week 14. The good news is that Jones has been a full participant in training camp, so there is nothing here suggesting he has suffered a setback. He started 13 games last season and completed 68% of his passes for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions, adding 164 yards and five more scores on the ground. The Colts also have no quarterback decision to make with Jones, who enters the season as their unquestioned starter. Riley Leonard and Anthony Richardson Sr. are instead competing for the backup job and should get plenty of preseason work. Jones remains RotoBaller's QB24, and sitting out exhibition games should not change much for fantasy managers as long as he continues practicing without limitations.

Daniel Jones Not Expected to Play in Preseason

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones (Achilles) is not expected to play in the preseason, per The Athletic's James Boyd. According to Boyd, Jones will participate only in Tuesday's joint practice with the New England Patriots and will sit out Thursday's game. The former sixth-overall pick has looked sharp in practice and earned praise from his teammates. Veteran tight end Mo Alie-Cox said, "He looks like he never got hurt," while guard Quenton Nelson said, "He's been incredible. He's back like he's never left." In his first season with the Colts in 2025, Jones recorded 3,101 yards and 19 touchdowns, with eight interceptions, and added 164 rushing yards and five touchdowns. He was the QB7 before the injury, averaging 19.4 fantasy points per game. Jones is ranked QB24 in RotoBaller's positional rankings, offering upside at a reasonable price.

Daniel Jones Looks "Completely Fine Physically"

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones tore his Achilles tendon less than eight months ago, but he has been a full participant since Day 1 of training camp, and Jake Arthur of Colts Roundtable notes that he "looks completely fine physically." The eighth-year veteran has not hesitated to scramble when needed, and even with top receiver Alec Pierce on the PUP list while recovering from offseason ankle surgery, Arthur credits Jones with over a 70% completion rate in 11-on-11 sessions. Before his season-ending injury in Week 14, Jones was the fantasy QB7, but with concerns of his recovery pushing his current ADP all the way down to QB24, he could prove to be one of the biggest steals of 2026 drafts, particularly in superflex formats.

Daniel Jones Looks "Unimpeded" as he Continues his Rehab

ESPN's Ben Solak writes that he saw what looked like an "unimpeded" Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones (Achilles) at training camp. Solak added that it doesn't look like Jones is only 7 1/3 months removed from Achilles surgery. If anything, Jones is "just a little stiff and uncertain when he's moving." Still, Solak thinks Jones "looks good," but he's not 100% on his Achilles just yet, so it remains to be seen how close he'll be to 100% by Week 1 of the 2026 regular season in September. The 29-year-old is in a "good place," though, and head coach Shane Steichen isn't modulating how he distributes reps or calls plays in training camp to account for Jones' recovery. It looks like the former sixth overall pick by the Giants in 2019 from Duke will be ready for Week 1, which would be great news for the Colts' offense. Jones was on his way to a career-best season in 2025 in his first year in Indy, but coming off a torn Achilles tendon and without receiver Michael Pittman Jr., there are plenty of reasons for fantasy managers to be skeptical of a repeat. Jones should be targeted as a low-end QB2 in superflex leagues with limited upside.

Daniel Jones Takes All First-Team Reps on Day 1 of Colts Training Camp

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones (Achilles) took all of the first-team reps during the team's first practice on Wednesday, according to Kevin Bowen of 93.5 The Fan. Jones is continuing to recover from a ruptured Achilles he suffered in Week 14 last season. The Colts were producing as one of the league's best offenses with an 8-4 record before Jones went down with a season-ending injury. The team will look to get back on track as GM Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen enter a pivotal year of their tenure with the Colts. There are a lot of moving pieces in Indianapolis while Jones continues to get back to full health and regain chemistry with his pass-catchers. It could take time for the offense to get back to where it was a year ago.

Daniel Jones Feels Good, Ready to Go for Training Camp

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones (Achilles) made an appearance in the booth of the NFL Flag Championships held over the weekend in Indiana, and when asked how his body feels, he told Kyle Brandt, "I feel good, really good. I'm excited to get going." Colts veterans report for training camp on Monday with the first practice scheduled for Wednesday, and as Jones continues to recover from the torn Achilles that ended his first year with the team, he could soon find himself participating in 11-on-11 action. Jones saw his involvement ramped up throughout OTAs and minicamp, eventually taking part in 7-on-7 drills, and it sounds as if he won't be limited for long, if at all, to begin training camp. Jones is RotoBaller's QB24 and represents tremendous potential value after playing as the QB7 through the first 13 weeks of 2025 despite adding a career-low 13.3 rushing yards per game.

Daniel Jones a Potential Draft Day Bargain if his Recovery Stays on Track

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones (Achilles) was the fantasy QB7 on an 8-4 team before a torn Achilles ended his season prematurely. When the Colts hold their first practice of training camp on July 29, he'll have the opportunity to pick up right where he left off. While much of his sporadic fantasy success with the Giants came through what he was able to do with his legs, Jones was averaging a career-low 13.3 rushing yards per game before the injury, making much of what he was able to accomplish repeatable less than eight months removed from surgery. Jones saw steadily increasing involvement throughout OTAs and minicamp, and if that progress continues into training camp, he could prove to be a bargain in superflex drafts, currently coming off the board as the QB25.

Daniel Jones "Doing Everything" in his Rehab

When asked about his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon suffered on Dec. 7 of last year, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones said on Friday that he's "doing everything," according to James Boyd of The Athletic. "Cleared to do everything. I think it's just about, at this point, sharpening that," Jones said. When asked if he still thinks about his Achilles, he said, "You're still thinking about it. I think (you) probably will until you get playing." The Colts are expected to ease the 29-year-old signal-caller in at the start of training camp later this month, but head coach Sean Steichen expects Jones to participate in 11-on-11 drills sooner rather than later. Barring a setback in camp or the preseason, Jones figures to be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 regular season as he looks to run it back after a strong first season in Indy in 2025. The Colts gave him a two-year, $88 million deal this offseason despite his Achilles injury. Jones stabilized the Colts' offense last year, but coming off a major injury and losing receiver Michael Pittman Jr. should have fantasy managers concerned in two-QB superflex formats. Alec Pierce could also be unavailable for the start of the year due to having offseason ankle surgery. RotoBaller has Jones ranked as the No. 24 fantasy QB for 2026.

Dynasty Managers May Have a Buy-Low Window on Daniel Jones

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones (Achilles) is currently working his way back from the torn Achilles that ended his 2025 campaign in Week 14. While Jones has not yet been fully cleared, he still appears to be tracking towards being ready to go for Week 1 of the 2026 season. Jones was having arguably his best NFL season before the injury in 2025, completing 68% of his pass attempts for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions across 13 games. The 29-year-old also rushed for 164 yards and five scores on 45 attempts. Jones may be less aggressive as a rusher in his first year back from injury, which could limit his fantasy upside for 2026. Still, the veteran quarterback appears to have found a home in Indianapolis and was the QB12 in per-game fantasy scoring before getting hurt last season. For rebuilding dynasty managers, buying low on Jones ahead of 2026 could pay dividends.

Daniel Jones to Work in 11-on-11 Drills at Training Camp

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones (Achilles), who is just over six months removed from rupturing his right Achilles tendon on Dec. 7, has so far been limited to seven-on-seven drills during organized team activities this offseason, according to James Boyd of The Athletic. However, head coach Shane Steichen said the 29-year-old signal-caller is expected to resume taking part in 11-on-11 drills in training camp next month. "It's my back leg, my push leg," Jones said, explaining the importance of his right Achilles. "There's a strength component. I think there's still work to be done," Jones conceded. "I wouldn't say I'm all the way there at this point." The Colts aren't rushing Jones back, but barring a setback this summer, he looks to be on track to be ready for the Week 1 2026 regular-season opener on Sept. 13 against the Baltimore Ravens. Jones was playing great in 2025 in his first year in Indy before tearing his Achilles, completing 68% of his pass attempts for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. However, fantasy managers should temper expectations for Jones as a QB2 after the Colts traded away his top wideout this offseason in Michael Pittman Jr. Remember, the Colts' offense will continue to run through running back Jonathan Taylor.
