The Indianapolis Colts signed rookie first-round tight end Tyler Warren to a four-year, fully-guaranteed $20.9 million contract on Friday that includes an $11.88 million signing bonus, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Colts also signed six other draft picks, including cornerback Justin Walley, tackle Jalen Travis, running back DJ Giddens, quarterback Riley Leonard, defensive tackle Tim Smith and safety Hunter Wohler. The Colts took Warren with the 14th overall pick in this year's draft out of Penn State, and they're hoping he can be the standout pass-catching TE they've been searching for for quite a while. He has a huge frame at 6-foot-5, 256 pounds and has plenty of after-the-catch ability, but fantasy managers should probably pump the brakes on Warren being the next Sam LaPorta or Brock Bowers in his rookie season given the uncertainty at the QB position in Indy.
Penn State tight end Tyler Warren, who was on the short list of best players in college football last season, become the newest Indianapolis Colts player after the franchise selected him at No. 14 in the 2025 NFL Draft. Surprisingly, the former Nittany Lion was not the first tight end selected after Chicago took Michigan's Colston Loveland at No. 10. Warren was a monster in 2024, catching 104 passes for more than 1,200 yards and eight touchdowns as Penn State advanced the College Football Playoff semifinal. The Colts were consistently linked to tight ends in general and Warren specifically, and in the end, they got their man by hanging tight at No. 14. Now they'll hope for something resembling passing quarterback play between the combination of Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson.
Rams Eyeing Trade Up For Tyler Warren, Colston Loveland?
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Los Angeles Rams tried to trade up for former Georgia tight end Brock Bowers during the 2024 NFL Draft, and the team could be looking to be aggressive in addressing the position on Day 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft. Penn State's Tyler Warren and Michigan's Colston Loveland are the consensus first-round tight end prospects in this year's class, so naturally, it is assumed the organization has their eye on one of the All-Big Ten performers. The 21-year-old Loveland caught 56 passes for 582 yards and five touchdowns last season in a run-heavy offense, while the 22-year-old Warren was a Heisman candidate after posting 1,451 yards of total offense and 12 scores. The Rams already replaced Cooper Kupp with Davante Adams this offseason, and adding a high-end tight end to replace Tyler Higbee could set quarterback Matthew Stafford up for one of the most productive seasons of his career.
Tyler Warren Won't Take Part In On-Field Work At NFL Combine
Penn State tight end Tyler Warren will not participate in the on-field drills at the 2025 NFL Combine. The 22-year-old is widely considered the top tight end prospect in April's draft and is likely to be a first-round pick. Warren finished seventh in the 2024 Heisman Trophy voting after posting 104 receptions for 1,233 receiving yards, eight receiving touchdowns, 218 rushing yards, and four rushing touchdowns. Warren is just the latest top prospect to opt out of the workout portion of the NFL Combine, but he will take part in the interview process and has already received an invitation to the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay.
