The Indianapolis Colts have agreed on a deal with free-agent defensive back Charvarius Ward on Monday. They've agreed on a three-year, $60 million that includes $35 million guaranteed and a $20 million signing bonus. This is a nice pickup for the Colts who have already improved their defense this offseason. Ward earned his way to the Pro Bowl in 2023 and has been a quality defender throughout his career. He has spent each of the last three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers after beginning his career with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018. The Colts have added safety Cam Bynum as well, so hopefully this will be an improved defense in 2025.
Charvarius Ward, Talanoa Hufanga Estimated As Non-Participants Monday
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward (knee) and safety Talanoa Hufanga (wrist) were both listed as non-participants on Monday's practice estimate. The 49ers didn't actually practice, but if they had, Ward and Hufanga would have been absent. This raises some concerns for their Week 6 availability given that there are less than three days until the Niners face the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. If San Francisco ends up being without Ward, who has 22 tackles this season, Isaac Yiadom would step up in his absence. Meanwhile, Hufanga, who has eight tackles through two games, would be replaced by George Odum.
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward (undisclosed) announced on his Instagram account that he had successful surgery for an undisclosed injury. In the overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII, Ward wasn't targeted at all while playing 55 defensive snaps. The 27-year-old was a Pro Bowler for the first time in his career in 2023, recording 72 tackles (56 solo), a career-high five interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), a league-high 23 passes defensed and one forced fumble in 17 starts during the regular season in his second year with the Niners. His strong season becomes even more impressive based on the fact that he was likely playing most of it at less than 100 percent. We won't know whether he'll be available for the offseason program until we know what kind of surgery Ward had.
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward (groin) and right tackle Mike McGlinchey (calf) have been ruled out for the remainder of Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons. Ward has amassed 28 tackles and one pick this season while McGlinchey has played a key role in protecting Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers' skill players.
Former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Charvarius Ward intends to sign a three-year deal worth up to $42 million, including $26.7 million guaranteed, with the San Francisco 49ers, according to his agency. Ward spent his first four seasons with the Chiefs and had 67 tackles (48 solo), two interceptions and 10 passes defensed in 13 regular season games (12 starts). The 25-year-old saw fewer overall defensive snaps for his second straight season, but he was more active and around the ball when he was healthy for KC's secondary. Ward will now take his talents to San Francisco after recording 222 total tackles (168 solo), three tackles for loss, three QB hits, four interceptions and 29 passes defensed in the last four years.
The Kansas City Chiefs placed cornerback Charvarius Ward on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday. Ward had a season-high 10 tackles in last Thursday's overtime win over the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers, so KC's secondary will be missing a key member if Ward doesn't get cleared in time for a Week 16 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 16. Defensive tackle Chris Jones and linebacker Willie Gay Jr. remain on the COVID list for the Chiefs defense, but they're hoping they'll both test negative before Sunday. Ward has collected 51 tackles (38 solo), one interception and eight passes defensed in 10 games played (nine starts) for the Chiefs in 2021. With three defensive touchdowns and 25 total turnovers in 14 games this year, KC's defense ranks fifth overall in fantasy and will be in play for fantasy managers against Pittsburgh this week.
Kansas City Chiefs restricted free-agent cornerback Charvarius Ward signed his second-round tender on Wednesday, according to his agent, Kevin Conner. Ward's second-round tender is worth $3.384 million in 2021. He entered the league in 2018 with the Dallas Cowboys after going undrafted. Kansas City acquired Ward in a trade before the regular season, and he started two games in 2018 before becoming a mainstay with the Chiefs first-team defense the last two seasons. The 25-year-old has 94 solo tackles, two interceptions, 16 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one sack in 30 games (29 starts) over the last two years for KC. Ward projects to start at the left cornerback position for the Chiefs in 2021.
Kansas City Chiefs starting cornerback Charvarius Ward (hand) suffered a fractured hand in Thursday night's win over the Texans and will be re-evaluated on Friday to determine how much time he will miss. Ward will have surgery on his broken hand, but based on the position he plays, it wouldn't be unprecedented if he puts a cast on it and plays through it. The team also has three extra days to get ready for their Week 2 game against the Chargers. The Chiefs secondary that looked really good on Thursday night in slowing down quarterback Deshaun Watson basically until garbage time late in the fourth quarter with the game already sealed up. The Chiefs Defense was in play as a starting fantasy unit for Week 1, and they lived up to that billing on Thursday night. They should be an acceptable starting unit next week, too, as they face the Chargers and quarterback Tyrod Taylor on the road.
