Colts Sign Ameer Abdullah, Release Khalil Herbert

The Indianapolis Colts announced on Monday that they signed free-agent running back Ameer Abdullah to their practice squad and released running back Khalil Herbert from the practice squad in a corresponding move. Abdullah joined the San Francisco 49ers as RB depth in training camp but was eventually cut from Injured Reserve due to a rib injury. The 32-year-old veteran will now head to the AFC South division, where he'll serve as depth behind starter Jonathan Taylor, rookie DJ Giddens, Tyler Goodson (elbow) and Ulysses Bentley. Abdullah will give the Colts 10 years of NFL experience, although it's unlikely that he'll work his way into a fantasy relevant role without multiple Indy backs in front of him going down with injury. In 16 games (three starts) in Vegas in 2024, Abdullah had 311 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 66 carries.

Ameer Abdullah Placed on Season-Ending Injured Reserve

The San Francisco 49ers have placed running back Ameer Abdullah (ribs) on season-ending Injured Reserve, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Abdullah, who just joined the 49ers as a free agent on July 31, suffered a rib injury in a preseason-opening 30-9 loss to the Denver Broncos this past Saturday. While the 32-year-old was unlikely to make much of an impact this season (if any), it's another hit to San Francisco's depth in the backfield. The team is already set to go multiple weeks without injured Christian McCaffrey backups Isaac Guerendo (shoulder) and Jordan James (finger). The 49ers brought back Jeff Wilson Jr. in free agency on Sunday in the wake of Abdullah's injury to provide some much-needed healthy depth behind McCaffrey.

49ers Sign Ameer Abdullah

The San Francisco 49ers signed veteran running back Ameer Abdullah on Thursday, according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo. This comes a day after the Niners hosted several running backs for workouts. The former second-round pick by the Detroit Lions out of Nebraska in 2015 has appeared in 141 NFL games, rushing for 1,994 yards, collecting 268 receptions for 1,468 yards, and scoring 19 total touchdowns. Abdullah had a short stretch of fantasy relevance last year with the Las Vegas Raiders, but he could face an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster in the Bay, and Christian McCaffrey and Isaac Guerendo should be viewed as the clear-cut RB1 and RB2 in Kyle Shanahan's offense to begin the 2025 campaign.

Ameer Abdullah Downgraded To Out For Week 18

After initially being listed as doubtful, the Las Vegas Raiders have downgraded running back Ameer Abdullah (foot) to out for the Week 18 regular-season finale on Sunday against the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers after he missed practice all week. Abdullah injured his foot in the Week 17 loss to the New Orleans Saints in which he had the first 100-yard rushing day of the season. With the 31-year-old getting an early start to the offseason, the Raiders will use Alexander Mattison as their lead back against LA at Allegiant Stadium, with rookie Dylan Laube and Chris Collier also seeing action in a change-of-pace role. Abdullah saw additional opportunities in the second half of this season due to injuries to Mattison and Zamir White, but he'll finish his third season in Sin City with only 311 rushing yards and two TDs on 66 carries over 16 games. He added a career-high 40 catches for 261 yards and three more TDs.

Ameer Abdullah Doubtful For Week 18

Las Vegas Raiders running back Ameer Abdullah (foot) is listed as doubtful for the Week 18 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Abdullah has been absent in practice this week after apparently picking up a foot injury during last week's win over the New Orleans Saints. The 31-year-old rushed 20 times for 115 yards and hauled in three of his four targets for 32 yards during last week's game. The absence of Abdullah would probably mean that Alexander Mattison would serve as the lead back on Sunday. Mattison has been held to 36 rushing yards or less in each of his last six games. Fantasy managers should be able to find a better streaming option for Week 18.

Ameer Abdullah Absent Again On Thursday

Las Vegas Raiders running back Ameer Abdullah (foot) was unable to join the team at practice for the second straight day this week. Abdullah put up a career-high 115 rushing yards in last week's win over the New Orleans Saints but apparently picked up a foot injury in the process that now has him questionable to play in the Week 18 regular-season finale against the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. The 31-year-old RB will probably need to practice in some capacity on Friday to avoid being ruled out entirely. The former second-round selection has seen more involvement in the Raiders backfield in the back half of the season due to injuries to Alexander Mattison and Zamir White and has averaged 4.7 yards per carry, but it has amounted to only 311 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Abdullah has mainly been a deep-league flex option in PPR leagues. If Abdullah cannot play against LA, look for rookie Dylan Laube to back up Mattison on Sunday.

Ameer Abdullah Picks Up DNP On Wednesday

Las Vegas Raiders running back Ameer Abdullah (foot) was listed as a non-participant to kick off this week of practice. The 31-year-old produced the best rushing total of his career in Sunday's 25-10 win against the New Orleans Saints. Unfortunately, Abdullah sustained a foot injury early in the fourth quarter, or he'd have had an even bigger day. While he was initially deemed questionable to return to the contest, he did not. The Nebraska product has been one of the more pleasant surprises late in the season, but he could be in danger of missing Sunday's meeting with the visiting Los Angeles Chargers. If Abdullah can't play, backfield mate Alexander Mattison projects to lead the Raiders' rushing attack with Chris Collier and/or Dylan Laube working in behind him. Abdullah's practice participation over the next two days should give us a better idea of his status for Sunday's bout.

Ameer Abdullah Nears 150 Yards Before Injuring Foot

Las Vegas Raiders running back Ameer Abdullah (foot) rushed for 115 yards on 20 carries during Sunday's Week 17 win over the New Orleans Saints. He also caught three of his four targets for an additional 32 yards through the air. Abdullah managed to approach the century-and-a-half mark for total scrimmage yards despite playing just three quarters. He registered his final touch on the first play of the fourth quarter, then proceeded to injure his foot. The Raiders listed him as questionable, but he did not return to the contest. Between Weeks 15 and 16, Abdullah ranked as the overall RB11 in PPR leagues, but it seemed like most of his value came from his pass-catching role and nose for the end zone. That wasn't the case in Week 17, though, as the majority of his fantasy points came from raw rushing yards. In fact, he didn't score a touchdown, and he also had his lowest receiving contributions since Week 14. His volume and efficiency allowed him to rank as the overall RB5 in PPR leagues for Week 17 so far, and he should be able to still rank inside the top-12 range once the rest of this week's games wrap up. In one of the bigger surprises of the 2024 season, if Abdullah can get healthy in time for Week 18, he'll likely rank as a solid RB2 option with significant upside against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Ameer Abdullah Carries Hot Streak, Big Receiving Role Into Week 17

Las Vegas Raiders running back Ameer Abdullah has quietly been one of the more impactful running backs in fantasy football over the last two weeks, and he'll look to build on his hot streak during this Sunday's Week 17 contest against the New Orleans Saints. Over the Raiders' last two contests, Abdullah has played fewer than half of the offensive snaps but still managed to total 46 rushing yards, 12 catches, 105 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. Despite operating as the Raiders' No. 2 running back, he ranks as the overall RB11 in PPR leagues during that two-week span. While we can't bank on Abdullah finding the end zone for a third week in a row, we do like his odds against a Saints defense that has allowed the most rushing touchdowns in 2024. Plus, he should continue to thrive as a pass-catcher, which has been Abdullah's specialty throughout his entire career. New Orleans is allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing running backs in 2024, and managers could certainly justify deploying him as a mid-range RB3 amidst his hot stretch of games.

Ameer Abdullah Productive Again In Win Over Jags

Las Vegas Raiders running back Ameer Abdullah rushed seven times for 38 yards and a touchdown in his team's 19-14 victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16. He added 47 yards on 5-of-6 receiving. The 31-year-old was again heavily involved in the passing game, racking up his second straight game with at least six targets. Abdullah was the team's second-leading receiver in every statistical category behind sensational rookie tight end Brock Bowers and scored a touchdown for the second straight game. Despite backfield mate Alexander Mattison piling up five more carries, Abdullah out-gained him by 11 and ran for 5.4 yards per carry to 2.3 for the latter. With solid involvement through the air seemingly intact, the tenth-year veteran is an intriguing FLEX option in PPR formats. He'll be as such next Sunday in a road meeting with the New Orleans Saints.
