With the 31-year-old getting an early start to the offseason, the Raiders will use Alexander Mattison as their lead back against LA at Allegiant Stadium, with rookie Dylan Laube and Chris Collier also seeing action in a change-of-pace role. Abdullah saw additional opportunities in the second half of this season due to injuries to Mattison and Zamir White, but he'll finish his third season in Sin City with only 311 rushing yards and two TDs on 66 carries over 16 games. He added a career-high 40 catches for 261 yards and three more TDs.

Abdullah has mainly been a deep-league flex option in PPR leagues. If Abdullah cannot play against LA, look for rookie Dylan Laube to back up Mattison on Sunday.

Abdullah's practice participation over the next two days should give us a better idea of his status for Sunday's bout.

Abdullah managed to approach the century-and-a-half mark for total scrimmage yards despite playing just three quarters. He registered his final touch on the first play of the fourth quarter, then proceeded to injure his foot. The Raiders listed him as questionable, but he did not return to the contest. Between Weeks 15 and 16, Abdullah ranked as the overall RB11 in PPR leagues, but it seemed like most of his value came from his pass-catching role and nose for the end zone. That wasn't the case in Week 17, though, as the majority of his fantasy points came from raw rushing yards. In fact, he didn't score a touchdown, and he also had his lowest receiving contributions since Week 14. His volume and efficiency allowed him to rank as the overall RB5 in PPR leagues for Week 17 so far, and he should be able to still rank inside the top-12 range once the rest of this week's games wrap up. In one of the bigger surprises of the 2024 season, if Abdullah can get healthy in time for Week 18, he'll likely rank as a solid RB2 option with significant upside against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Over the Raiders' last two contests, Abdullah has played fewer than half of the offensive snaps but still managed to total 46 rushing yards, 12 catches, 105 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. Despite operating as the Raiders' No. 2 running back, he ranks as the overall RB11 in PPR leagues during that two-week span. While we can't bank on Abdullah finding the end zone for a third week in a row, we do like his odds against a Saints defense that has allowed the most rushing touchdowns in 2024. Plus, he should continue to thrive as a pass-catcher, which has been Abdullah's specialty throughout his entire career. New Orleans is allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing running backs in 2024, and managers could certainly justify deploying him as a mid-range RB3 amidst his hot stretch of games.

He added 47 yards on 5-of-6 receiving. The 31-year-old was again heavily involved in the passing game, racking up his second straight game with at least six targets. Abdullah was the team's second-leading receiver in every statistical category behind sensational rookie tight end Brock Bowers and scored a touchdown for the second straight game. Despite backfield mate Alexander Mattison piling up five more carries, Abdullah out-gained him by 11 and ran for 5.4 yards per carry to 2.3 for the latter. With solid involvement through the air seemingly intact, the tenth-year veteran is an intriguing FLEX option in PPR formats. He'll be as such next Sunday in a road meeting with the New Orleans Saints.

Raiders running back Ameer Abdullah will probably split volume with RB Alexander Mattison (neck), and Abdullah presents the more interesting option in fantasy football, since he seems to have more pass-catching upside. The 31-year old rushed three times for just eight yards in Week 15, but caught all seven of his targets for 58 yards and a touchdown. JAX has one of the league's most porous defenses. These factors make the 10th-year pro an intriguing option in deeper PPR leagues as an RB3/FLEX, but starting anyone from this backfield in fantasy football carries plenty of risk.

This backfield has been an absolute mess this season, and it won't get any easier to evaluate as the team faces the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16. They do have a poor defense, though, so Abdullah has appeal in deeper PPR leagues as a FLEX option if he ends up starting.

Abdullah saw his workload tick down in Week 13, but it was all McCormick Sunday afternoon, as he was also more productive in the passing game. It's a blow to fantasy managers relying on the 31-year-old -- particularly through another six-team bye week. With his role now in question and one of, if not both, Alexander Mattison (ankle) and Zamir White (quad) due back shortly, Abdullah can likely be avoided for fantasy purposes.
