Overall, the 28-year-old has tallied 424 tackles (235 solo), 5.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and four interceptions in 95 career games. He was entering the final season of the two-year extension he signed in November of 2022 that was worth up to $4.4 million. Tavai was scheduled to earn a base salary of $1.625 million in 2204. The 6-foot-2, 255-pounder entered the league as a second-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2019. He's appeared in all 17 regular-season games in each of the last two years for New England and has made 28 starts. Tavai's 107 tackles last year were tied with safety Kyle Dugger.
