Zach Wilson Active as QB2 for Miami in Week 8

Miami Dolphins quarterback Zach Wilson is active for Sunday's Week 8 contest against the Atlanta Falcons. Wilson had been a healthy scratch for the first time last week, but his absence was short-lived as he returns to the backup role just one week later. While the former No. 3 pick will start the game on the bench, there's a chance that Wilson could see some playing time if Tua Tagovailoa continues to struggle and is benched again. Last week, the starter threw three interceptions against the Browns, and now, he has an even tougher matchup against the Falcons. When Tagovailoa was benched last week, he was replaced by Quinn Ewers, who made his NFL debut along the way. Ewers completed five of eight passes for 53 yards, but he has been demoted. back to the inactives list in Week 8. The Texas product is a healthy scratch, serving as the emergency third quarterback.

Quinn Ewers Still Competing for Dolphins QB2 Role Heading into Week 8

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said that rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers will compete with veteran Zach Wilson for the team's backup QB job, according to Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post. Ewers saw his first game action of his career in Week 7 during garbage time of Miami's 31-6 loss to the Cleveland Browns. The 22-year-old completed five of eight pass attempts for 53 yards. Ewers was named the backup quarterback over Wilson heading into Week 7, but it seems the two quarterbacks are still battling for the full-time job. It does not appear that either Ewers or Wilson is currently a threat to take the starting job from Tua Tagovailoa. However, that may change if the 1-6 Dolphins continue to struggle.

Tua Tagovailoa Benched, Replaced By Quinn Ewers

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was benched during the fourth quarter of Sunday's Week 7 contest against the Cleveland Browns. He was in the midst of an all-time poor outing, having completed 12 of 23 passes for 100 yards, zero touchdowns, and three interceptions, including a pick-six. He also took two sacks and rushed for six yards. Tagovailoa was replaced by Quinn Ewers, who is active for the first time this season. Miami made the decision ahead of Week 7 to name Ewers the backup quarterback over Zach Wilson. The Texas product will be tasked with limiting the damage in the final minutes of the blowout loss to Cleveland. All eyes will be on Miami with Mike McDaniel's seat hotter than ever, and a potential quarterback change on the radar ahead of Week 8.

Quinn Ewers Impresses in Dophins' Preseason Win

Miami Dolphins quarterback Quinn Ewers had a big second half in the team's second preseason game on Saturday, throwing for 116 yards and two touchdowns by completing 11 of his 17 pass attempts. He entered the game trailing 14-7 but led two touchdown drives and led the team to a 24-17 victory over the Dolphins. Both of Ewers' touchdown passes went to fellow rookie Theo Wease Jr. as both players look to establish their positions on the roster. The rookie quarterback from Texas was a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after throwing for 9,128 yards, 68 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions in 36 games over three seasons with the Longhorns. Ewers is currently competing with Zach Wilson for the team's backup role behind Tua Tagovailoa, and both potential backups had strong showings against Detroit. Wilson played ahead of Ewers on Saturday, but Ewers stepped up with a much better showing than he had in his preseason debut against the Bears.

Quinn Ewers Inks Rookie Deal With Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have officially signed former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers to his four-year rookie contract, according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo. Ewers notably slid to the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft after some analysts projected him to be selected as early as the third or fourth round. After redshirting at Ohio State in 2021, Ewers threw for 9,128 yards, 68 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions in 36 games over three seasons with the Longhorns. He led the program to two consecutive College Football Playoff semifinal appearances. Now in Miami, he'll have the opportunity to compete with former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson for the QB2 role behind Tua Tagovailoa. Given Tagovailoa's injury history as of late, one of his backups could be called into action during the 2025 campaign. Wilson should be viewed as the front-runner to win that job.

Dolphins Select Quinn Ewers In Seventh Round

The Miami Dolphins have selected Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers with the 231st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Ewers was previously the top recruit coming out of high school in 2022. He originally committed to Texas, flipped to Ohio State, and then transferred to Texas a year later. Ewers was benched for Arch Manning during a game against Georgia last October, but for the most part, he was the Longhorns' starter. He finished his final collegiate season having completed 66 percent of his passes for 3,472 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. In Miami, he'll offer depth behind Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson. The Dolphins' No. 2 quarterback role has long been a topic of discussion due to Tagovailoa's history of serious concussions.

Quinn Ewers Visiting With Colts

Former University of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is visiting with the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday, according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo. The organization has Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones on the roster but could be interested in adding a mid-round rookie given the struggles of Richardson and Jones so far. Ewers began his career at Ohio State before transferring to Texas, where he played in 36 games for the Longhorns. The Texas native threw for 9,128 yards, 68 touchdowns, and 24 interceptions and led Texas to two consecutive College Football Playoff Semifinal appearances. Ewers once had first-round hype, but he'll likely be picked anywhere from the second round to the fifth round in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Raiders Hosting Ashton Jeanty, Quinn Ewers This Week

The Las Vegas Raiders are hosting several top draft prospects this week, including Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty and University of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, sources tell NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Both Jeanty and Ewers will fly into Vegas. While Ewers would be a reach for the Raiders' sixth overall pick in the first round of this year's NFL draft, they also hold the No. 37 overall pick in the second round. Although the Raiders added veteran Raheem Mostert in free agency this offseason, they are still looking for a difference-maker at the position, and Jeanty is the clear No. 1 RB prospect in this year's draft class. Vegas has gained a lot of steam as a potential landing spot for Jeanty at sixth overall. The Raiders also signed quarterback Geno Smith to an extension recently, but Ewers could be selected as the eventual successor under center.

Saints Expected To Visit With Quinn Ewers

The New Orleans Saints are expected to host a top-30 visit with University of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers in mid-April, according to a league source. The Saints have shown a considerable amount of interest in Ewers in the lead-up to this year's NFL draft, as they also met with him at the scouting combine in February. The Saints are moving forward with QB Derek Carr in head coach Kellen Moore's first year with the team, and they also like Spencer Rattler as the backup as he continues to develop, but it doesn't mean they won't consider taking another young signal-caller like Ewers as a potential starting QB for them in the future. The 22-year-old went 27-9 for the Longhorns and threw for 3,472 yards with 31 TDs and 12 interceptions in his final season in 2024. Ewers is projected as an early Day 3 pick in this year's draft.
