Brenton Strange Faces Crowded Jaguars Passing Attack

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange faces heavy target competition heading into the 2026 season. Strange had a solid third season, hauling in 46 of 60 targets for 540 yards and three touchdowns in just 12 games, averaging 7.9 half-PPR fantasy points per game. However, the Jaguars' receiving corps looks loaded, with the addition of second-round tight end Nate Boerkircher and the return of emerging players Parker Washington and Travis Hunter. Despite a strong showing in 2025, Strange is likely the fourth or fifth option in this passing offense. Currently listed as the TE17 in RotoBaller's positional rankings, Strange seems like too high a price to pay in 2026.

Jaguars Looking to Get Brenton Strange Out in Space More

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said he is looking to get tight end Brenton Strange "out in space more" to take advantage of his receiving ability this year, according to Hays Carlyon of 101 XL. The Jaguars clearly believe in Strange, giving him a three-year, $48 million extension last month. The 25-year-old only managed to play in 12 games due to injury in 2025, but he still had a career-high 540 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 46 catches. It's clear that the Jaguars want the former second-rounder from Penn State to become a bigger part of their passing attack under Coen, but the problem for fantasy football purposes is that the Jaguars already have a very crowded receiver room with the likes of Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington, Brian Thomas Jr., and former Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. Jacksonville also drafted TEs Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol this year, so there is some concern that they could eventually eat into Strange's workload. Fantasy managers shouldn't overreact to the hype and consider Strange a TE1 in 2026, but rather an intriguing TE2 with upside.

Brenton Strange a High-Upside Streaming Option in 2026

After recording career highs of 46 receptions, 540 yards, and three touchdowns in 2025, Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange agreed to a three-year extension worth up to $48 million dollars, and the only thing truly working against him heading into 2026 is the overall depth of the Jaguars' pass catchers. While certainly a luxury problem for an NFL offense, fantasy managers could face the frustration of trying to determine how targets will be allotted on a week-to-week basis. Jacksonville comes into the season with an impressive receiver room of Brian Thomas Jr., Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers, and two-way player Travis Hunter, a foursome that did not see a single snap together in 2025. Working in Strange's favor is the obvious positional advantage that should see him on the field at close to an every-down rate. Strange missed five games in 2025 with a hip injury that landed him on injured reserve, but in returning for the final seven games of the regular season, he closed the year as the TE8. Now pushed entirely out of most drafts by the uncertainty of his situation, Strange remains a high-upside swing in deeper leagues, and at RotoBaller's TE18, he is certain to enter into the weekly streaming conversation in 2026.

Jaguars, Brenton Strange Agree to Three-Year Contract Extension

The Jacksonville Jaguars and standout tight end Brenton Strange agreed to a three-year contract extension on Wednesday worth up to $48 million with $25 million guaranteed, sources told Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports. In 12 games last season, the Penn State product caught 46 passes for 540 yards and three touchdowns, and he has become a key part of quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars' offensive scheme. The 25-year-old was taken in the second round (61st overall) in the 2023 NFL draft, and he has caught 91 of his 122 targets for 986 yards and six touchdowns in 43 regular-season games (26 starts) in his three years in the league. Strange has improved a bit each year in terms of production, and even though the Jags added two rookie TEs in this year's draft, he's expected to be the unquestioned No. 1 pass-catching option at the position again in 2026. With the Jaguars potentially taking another step forward in head coach Liam Coen's offense in Year 2, Strange will be an intriguing TE2 with upside in fantasy drafts this fall. RotoBaller currently has him ranked as the No. 19 fantasy TE.

Jaguars Having Preliminary Extension Talks With Brenton Strange

The Jacksonville Jaguars have had preliminary talks about a contract extension with tight end Brenton Strange and wide receiver Parker Washington, according to Michael DiRocco of ESPN. Strange and Washington are entering the final years of their rookie contracts. Strange set career highs in catches (46), receiving yards (540), and receiving touchdowns (three) in 2025. General manager James Gladstone is optimistic about the team's chances of extending both Strange and Washington, saying the team is "probably within striking distance to see things come to light." The Jaguars drafted rookie tight ends Tanner Koziol and Nate Boerkircher in this year's draft, and they are expected to deploy multiple tight-end sets more often in 2026 in head coach Liam Coen's offense. Despite the addition of two rookies at his position, Strange is expected to have a bigger role on offense and should move around the formation more to create mismatches. Still, with plenty of options for quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the receiving room, too, Strange should not be considered as anything more than a TE2 pick with upside in 2026.

Brenton Strange Being Asked to Line Up in "a Lot More Positions"

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange said this week that he's being asked to line up in "a lot more positions," but despite the added responsibilities, he feels that his second year in head coach Liam Coen's offense is "a lot less chaotic," per Garry Smits of the Jacksonville Florida Times-Union. The 25-year-old is entering the final year of his rookie deal after catching 91 passes on 122 targets for 986 yards and six touchdowns in 43 games (26 starts) for the Jags over his first three years in the NFL. The former second-rounder (61st overall) out of Penn State in 2023 is the team's clear No. 1 pass-catching tight end going into the 2026 season, even though Jacksonville added rookies Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol in the NFL draft in April. Strange had career highs across the board in catches (46), targets (60), receiving yards (540), and touchdowns (three) in his 12 regular-season starts a year ago, and even though the offense is expected to feature plenty of two-TE sets this year, his production should improve because of his versatility. In a contract year, Strange could be an excellent value pick in fantasy as a TE2 with upside in 2026.

Jaguars Have Big Plans for Brenton Strange

Sports Illustrated's John Shipley writes that the Jacksonville Jaguars "clearly have some big plans" for tight ends Brenton Strange and rookie Nate Boerkircher. The Jags also added Tanner Koziol in the fifth round of April's NFL draft, but there "should not be questions" about Strange's role and value. The Jaguars are clearly hoping that injecting the TE room with talent should allow Strange "to produce at an even higher level than before." The 25-year-old was the team's do-everything man at the position in 2025, catching a career-high 46 passes for 540 yards and three touchdowns on 60 targets in 12 regular-season starts in his third year in the league. He was a versatile chess piece for Jacksonville's offense in both the running and passing game, and it was notable that the team lost three of their four regular-season games when Strange was out due to injury. With two rookies to help take the pressure off, more should be expected from Strange in 2026, making him an intriguing late-round flier as a TE2 with upside for fantasy managers.

Brenton Strange a Safe, Young Dynasty Depth Piece

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange missed five mid-season games in 2025 with a hip injury that landed him on injured reserve. After returning to the field in Week 12, he played the final seven games of the year on a full-season pace of 63 receptions for 816 yards and seven touchdowns, good enough to make him the fantasy TE8 over that stretch. Jacksonville boasts one of the deepest receiver groups in the league, but with at least three different players holding a reasonable claim to the team's WR1 spot in any given week, a consensus fantasy ranking within the room can hardly be agreed upon. Strange's role holds no such ambiguity, and in his 2025 games in which he played a full allotment of snaps, he saw fewer than four targets only once. While he is never going to accumulate league-winning volume, Strange provides a safe weekly floor, and with the depth chart existing as it does, he has multiple paths to an expanded role through injury to any one of the team's wideouts. At only 25 years old, Strange is RotoBaller's dynasty TE16.

Is Brenton Strange a Top-15 Dynasty Tight End?

Although Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange played in a career-low 12 regular-season games in 2025 due to a hip injury, he still managed to set career highs across the board in receptions (46), targets (60), receiving yards (540), and touchdowns (three). The 25-year-old became the team's clear TE1 after Evan Engram left in free agency last offseason. Jacksonville added rookies Nate Boerkircher and Tanner Koziol in this year's draft, but Strange is locked in as the Jags' top pass-catching TE in 2026 in an offense that took over in the second half of last season. That's the good news. The bad news is that Strange's weekly ceiling could remain relatively low while battling for targets with a deep receiving corps that includes Jakobi Meyers, Brian Thomas Jr., Parker Washington, and Travis Hunter (knee). Quarterback Trevor Lawrence showed plenty of chemistry with Strange, but his volume will probably leave him in TE2 territory in redraft fantasy leagues going into the upcoming campaign. In dynasty leagues, Strange's stock is on the rise in an improved offense under head coach Liam Coen, and RotoBaller has him ranked as the No. 16 TE.

Does Brenton Strange Still Need to Prove Himself in Jacksonville?

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange seemed like the clear-cut No. 1 option on the depth chart this offseason, and all signs pointed to him being a strong extension candidate. However, that perception has changed following this week's NFL Draft. The Jaguars made several tight end additions in the draft, selecting Texas A&M's Nate Boerkircher at No. 56 overall and Houston's Tanner Koziol at No. 164 overall. Boerkicher has more of a blocking skill set, but he's certainly capable of catching passes, too. Meanwhile, Koizol is a true pass-catcher who should compete for targets right away. Strange is clearly still the No. 1 tight end here, but there's now less confidence in his ability to fend off competition long-term. The Jaguars sent a clear message that they want some other tight ends to get involved going forward. It's possible that Strange hit his peak last year when he averaged 9.8 fantasy points per game. When extrapolated over 17 games, that's still good enough for a top-15 finish in PPR leagues. However, the new additions certainly place a cap on his long-term upside.
