Brenton Strange News
Jacksonville Jaguars rookie tight end Brenton Strange had three catches for 23 yards in Saturday's 25-7 preseason win over the Detroit Lions. The Penn State product led the team in targets with four and showed improvement after only logging two receptions for eight yards against Dallas in the first preseason outing. Evan Engram is the unquestioned TE1 after signing a lucrative two-year extension this off-season. Still, Strange is giving Luke Farrell a run for his money on the backup tight-end position in Jacksonville. The 2023 second-round pick will likely need another solid outing if he is going to lock that position down, but it would only be fantasy viable if Engram were to miss time.
Jacksonville Jaguars rookie tight end Brenton Strange (undisclosed), who was taken in the second round (61st overall) of this year's NFL draft, has been a full participant in organized team activities since suffering a minor injury on the last day of rookie minicamp. Strange has stood out a couple of times, but it will take him time to acclimate to a brand-new system in his rookie year. The team will have to wait until training camp to get a good look at his blocking abilities, but the former Nittany Lion was known for his blocking prowess in college. The 22-year-old will develop in a secondary role in 2023 behind Evan Engram, who had a career year for the Jaguars in 2022. As with most rookie tight ends, Strange is unlikely to have any fantasy appeal in his first NFL season.
The Jacksonville Jaguars selected tight end Brenton Strange out of Penn State with the No. 61 overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft on Friday night. At six-foot-four, 253 pounds, he's a big-bodied target for Trevor Lawrence. He'll join Evan Engram, who was very productive during the final stretch of the 2022 season. Lawrence already has Calvin Ridley, Christian Kirk, and Zay Jones to throw to, making Strange more of a depth piece. It'll be difficult for him to earn a significant role this season, but with Engram on a one-year deal, he could emerge as the starter for 2024.
