Reliever Brock Burke is getting the start. It will be his first start this season, and eighth of his career. Burke has gotten through more than one frame in just four of his appearances in 2025, so it seems unlikely that he'll accrue more than an inning before turning the ball over to his bullpen mates. While the veteran doesn't punch out many batters, his 54.5% ground ball rate is good enough to place him in the 91st percentile of all pitchers.

Fantasy managers should expect Burke to open the season with a low-leverage role in the Los Angeles bullpen. However, he could eventually earn a high-leverage role if he can turn the corner.

The Los Angeles Angels claimed right-hander Nick Robertson off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals and left-hander Brock Burke off waivers from the Texas Rangers on Tuesday. Robertson allowed six earned runs in 12 1/3 relief innings for St. Louis earlier this year with two walks and 14 strikeouts before getting injured and being sent to Triple-A Memphis. Burke probably isn't worth a draft pick in shallow mixed leagues, but he should certainly be on the radar of saves speculators and deep holds leagues in 2023.

The news came down on Tuesday that Burke needed the surgery, and the recovery is expected to take 12 months. That timetable would suggest he could be back in the majors by midseason in 2021 with the recovery and rehab needed to get back to the level required to pitch in the majors. If you play in a deep dynasty league and have some patience, Burke is worth a late stash in leagues with a lot of IL spots.
