Corey Seager to Start a Rehab Assignment on Tuesday

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) is scheduled to start a minor-league rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco on Tuesday night, according to Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports. Seager has been cleared to play in games down on the farm after taking batting practice over the last couple of days. The veteran shortstop has been out for almost a month with inflammation in his back, but he could be ready to rejoin the major-league roster by the weekend or early next week, barring a setback. The 32-year-old five-time All-Star and two-time World Series MVP has had a disastrous season in 2026 due to injuries, playing in only 51 games (219 plate appearances) while slashing .182/.292/.374 with a career-worst .667 OPS, 10 home runs, 25 RBI, 28 runs scored, and a stolen base. Seager is still rostered in 80% of Yahoo leagues because of his reputation as one of the better fantasy shortstops, but injuries have taken their toll, leaving us to wonder if he'll be a high-end power asset down the stretch for the Rangers in 2026.

Corey Seager Could Begin Rehab Assignment After Monday's Live BP

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) completed a higher-volume live batting-practice session Sunday and finished it with a home run, according to Matthew Postins. Seager plans to take live BP again Monday, giving him consecutive days of work. If his lower back responds well, he said a minor-league rehab assignment will likely be the next step. Seager has been on the 10-day injured list since July 1 with lower back inflammation, his third IL stint of 2026. He is batting .182 with 10 home runs and 25 RBI in 51 games after previously missing 19 games with the same injury and 12 with a concussion. The Rangers have not set a rehab schedule or return date. Fantasy managers should continue holding Seager while awaiting a clearer timetable.

Corey Seager Takes Live Batting Practice on Friday

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) was able to take live batting practice on Friday. According to Kennedi Landry, Seager took four live at-bats in a simulated batting practice. The expectation is that Seager will repeat this process at least one more time before likely going on a minor league rehab assignment. The veteran shortstop has been on the Injured List since the beginning of July due to lower back inflammation. There's no timetable available for his return, but hopefully Seager can contribute again in early August. He has struggled with the bat this season, but hopefully he can bounce back once he's fully healthy again.

Corey Seager Could Take Live Batting Practice This Weekend

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) has continued his hitting progression with machine work in the batting cage and has also continued to take ground balls and run the bases. He could potentially start taking live batting practice on Saturday or Sunday, according to MLB.com. Seager was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 1 with back discomfort, and his expected return is to be determined. Ezequiel Duran should continue to fill in at the 6 for as long as Seager remains out. It's been an injury-plagued and extremely disappointing 2026 campaign for Seager, a five-time All-Star and two-time World Series MVP. The 32-year-old veteran has played in only 51 games this year and is hitting .182/.292/.374 with a career-worst .667 OPS, 10 home runs, 25 RBI, 28 runs scored, and a stolen base in his 219 plate appearances. Fantasy managers definitely should not expect Seager to return until August at this point, and when he does, he could be rested often to prevent another injury down the stretch as Texas looks to get into the postseason.

Corey Seager is Progressing to Batting-Cage Work

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) is scheduled to do soft toss hitting in the batting cage on Sunday. This is good progress as Seager is working to return from lower back inflammation that has kept him sidelined since mid-June. This is an issue that has continued to plague Seager throughout the season. There is no official timetable for his return, so fantasy managers will need to continue to be patient. According to Kennedi Landry, Seager is going to be back eventually this season, which isn't a great sign. When healthy, Seager was struggling heavily at the plate. Fantasy managers in redraft formats might want to start looking for a replacement.

Corey Seager Doing Straight-Line Running on Friday

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) is doing some straight-line jogging/running on the field at Truist Park on Friday before the team's series opener against the Atlanta Braves, according to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. Between injuries and poor performance at the plate, it has been an extremely disappointing year for the 32-year-old veteran shortstop. Seager has played in just four games since June 11 due to a concussion, and more recently, inflammation in his lower back that put him back on the injured list. There's no current timetable for his return, and given his health issues in 2026, fantasy managers who have been stashing him shouldn't expect Seager to be back with the Rangers until August. The five-time All-Star and three-time Silver Slugger winner has struggled to a .182/.292/.374 slash line with a .667 OPS, 10 home runs, 25 RBI, 28 runs scored, and one steal in his 187 at-bats this year when healthy. Seager can bounce back if he can finally get fully healthy, but at this point, fantasy managers have to be wondering if that will happen in the second half. He's currently rostered in 81% of Yahoo leagues.

Corey Seager Returning to Injured List With Back Injury

After recently returning from a stay on the seven-day concussion injured list last week, Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday due to a back injury that kept him out of Tuesday's starting lineup against the Cleveland Guardians, according to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. In a corresponding move, utility man Josh Smith has returned to the big-league roster. Nicky Lopez is making another start at the 6 for Texas on Wednesday and is hitting ninth in the batting order against Guardians left-hander Joey Cantillo. In what has been a lost season for Seager to this point, it's especially concerning for the Rangers and his fantasy managers that Seager already missed a month with a back injury earlier in the first half. Seager will now be out through the All-Star break and probably won't be ready to return until sometime in August. In the meantime, expect Ezequiel Duran to see most of the work at shortstop in Texas. Seager has hit just .182/.292/.374 with 10 homers, 25 RBI, 28 runs scored, and a career-worst 26.9% strikeout rate in his 219 plate appearances in 2026.

Corey Seager Exits Early on Tuesday With Back Discomfort

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (back) exited Tuesday's game early against the Cleveland Guardians with back discomfort, according to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. Seager was unable to get loose and was removed from the contest before even taking an at-bat. Cameron Cauley will take over at the 6 in Cleveland. The severity of Seager's back injury is unknown right now, but for an aging player who has already been on the injured list multiple times in 2026, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Texas shut the 32-year-old down going into July. In addition to injuries limiting Seager to 50 games in his 12th year in the big leagues, he has hit a disappointing .182/.292/.374 with a career-worst .667 OPS, 10 home runs, 25 RBI, 28 runs scored, and a stolen base in 219 plate appearances. Although he has walked 12.8% of the time, Seager is also sporting a career-worst 26.9% strikeout rate. Check back for an update on Seager's status, which should come no later than Wednesday morning.

Corey Seager Activated From Seven-Day Concussion Injured List

The Texas Rangers announced on Thursday that they activated shortstop Corey Seager (concussion) from the seven-day concussion injured list and placed infielder/outfielder Cody Freeman (back) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 22) with a herniated disc in his back in a corresponding move. Seager should be right back in Texas' starting lineup for their contest in Toronto on Thursday against the Blue Jays and right-hander Kevin Gausman. The veteran left-handed-hitting shortstop will return to the big-league roster after missing two weeks with a mild concussion that he suffered in a collision at home plate in early June. Fantasy managers haven't been too happy with Seager in 2026 between his injuries and poor play. He is returning to a rough .186/.284/.373 slash line with nine home runs in his 47 games played in his 12th year in the majors. The five-time All-Star and two-time World Series MVP has time to bounce back in the second half of 2026, though, as long as he can stay healthy, which is something he has struggled with in his career.

Thursday Looking More Likely for Corey Seager's Return

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (concussion) remains on the seven-day concussion injured list and isn't expected to be activated on Wednesday, according to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News. Grant thinks it's more likely that Seager is reinstated on Thursday to play in the series opener in Toronto against the Blue Jays. Seager landed on the IL with mild concussion symptoms after colliding with Kansas City Royals catcher Carter Jensen on June 11, but he took part in a pre-game workout on Tuesday and appears ready to return this week. With Seager set to return, Ezequiel Duran will most likely move to second base and continue to play regularly for the Rangers. It's been an injury-plagued 2026 season for the 32-year-old Seager, who is also hitting a very disappointing .186/.284/.373 with a .657 OPS, nine home runs, 24 RBI, 25 runs scored, and one stolen base in his 177 at-bats. The five-time All-Star is still rostered in nearly 90% of Yahoo leagues for his power/speed track record, but durability concerns are becoming a bigger issue.
