Jarren Duran Homers In Monday's Loss

Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran had a monster game Monday as his team fell to the Toronto Blue Jays 7-3. Batting from the leadoff spot, Duran went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a two-run home run in Monday's loss. The 27-year-old has been solid all year for the Red Sox but has been scorching hot lately. In his last seven games, he has been slashing .417/.517/1.000 with three homers, five RBI, eight runs, five walks, and a stolen base. Duran will be a key player as the Red Sox hope to secure an AL Wild Card spot.

Salvador Perez Homers Twice On Monday

Kansas City Royals Catcher Salvador Perez had a monster performance in Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader 9-4 win against the Cleveland Guardians. He went 2-for-4 with two homers, six RBI, and a walk. Perez is slashing .282/.341/.494 with 26 homers and 94 RBI across 129 games (478 at-bats) this season. His RBI total ranks sixth in the American League. The 34-year-old, playing in his 13th season with the Royals, is having a stellar year and will hopefully continue to lead this time down the stretch.

Jacob Amaya Claimed By White Sox, Nick Senzel Designated For Assignment

The Chicago White Sox announced on Monday that they claimed infielder Jacob Amaya off waivers from the Houston Astros and designated infielder Nick Senzel for assignment in a corresponding move. The club also recalled left-hander Sammy Peralta and infielder Bryan Ramos from Triple-A Charlotte and optioned left-hander Ky Bush to Charlotte. Amaya will report to Charlotte after hitting just .223/.313/.336 with five home runs, 32 RBI and six stolen bases in 73 games for Triple-A Sugar Land. The 25-year-old will serve as middle-infield depth for the White Sox down on the farm to close out 2024. Senzel has now been cut from both the White Sox and Washington Nationals this year. The 29-year-old former first-rounder by the Cincinnati Reds in 2016 out of Tennessee hit a combined .195/.283/.331 with a .614 OPS, seven homers and 18 RBI in 74 total games this year.

Erasmo Ramírez  • SP  •  Rays

Rays Recall Erasmo Ramirez On Monday

The Tampa Bay Rays recalled right-hander Erasmo Ramirez from Triple-A Durham on Monday and optioned left-hander Jacob Lopez to Durham in a corresponding move. This will be Ramirez's second stint in the big leagues for the Rays this year, but he hasn't pitched for the Rays since May 21. The 34-year-old veteran Nicaraguan went 3-0 earlier this season with a 4.50 ERA (6.61 FIP), a 1.06 WHIP, one save, six walks and nine strikeouts in 16 innings pitched. Ramirez has been fortunate to pick up three wins and will likely occupy a middle-relief role for however long he's in the big leagues this time around. The 13-year-old veteran doesn't have any fantasy appeal and has a career 18% strikeout rate and 6.3% walk rate in 844 1/3 innings at the big-league level.

Jake Bloss  • SP  •  Blue Jays

Blue Jays Could Call Up Jake Bloss In September

The Toronto Blue Jays could choose to call up right-handed pitching prospect Jake Bloss when rosters expand in September and employ a six-man starting rotation for the final month of the season. Bloss, who was acquired from the Houston Astros in the Yusei Kikuchi deal at the end of July, has made three starts for Triple-A Buffalo and has thrown 9 2/3 scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and five walks. Toronto hasn't been in a rush to call him up with rosters expanding, but they also would like to give their regular starts normal rest with a playoff spot not up for grabs. Per MLB Pipeline, the 23-year-old Bloss is Toronto's No. 3 prospect. Other candidates for a promotion when rosters expand this weekend include outfielders Jonatan Clase, Nathan Lukes and Alan Roden. Bloss began the year at High-A Asheville in the Astros' system. He could be in line for a regular rotation role in 2025 in Toronto.

Christian Scott  • SP  •  Mets

Christian Scott Could Throw Off A Mound Soon

New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Christian Scott (elbow) has been playing catch for more than a week and could move to throwing off a mound soon. It's important for Scott and the Mets that he return to the big leagues this season to get a sense of how his elbow feels heading into the offseason. The 25-year-old is recovering from a sprained UCL in his right elbow, and if he doesn't respond well when he returns to action in the final month of the 2024 regular season, there's a chance he'll need offseason surgery, which would likely keep him out for all of 2025. Scott hasn't pitched since July 21, so he has a ways to go before he's an option for the big-league starting rotation again. In his first nine major-league starts this year before his injury, Scott was highly inconsistent, allowing 24 earned runs on 45 hits (eight homers) while walking 12 and fanning 39 in 47 1/3 innings.

Tylor Megill  • SP  •  Mets

Tylor Megill The Favorite To Join Mets Rotation

New York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill is the strong front-runner to join the team's starting rotation in Paul Blackburn's (hand, wrist) spot, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. Megill's first turn in the rotation will come on Thursday on the road against the hosting Arizona Diamondback, which won't be ideal for deep-league streaming purposes. The 29-year-old has not pitched for the Mets since July 31 and hasn't started a game since July 27 against the Atlanta Braves. Megill hasn't been very effective for the Mets in his 10 big-league appearances (nine starts) this year, going 2-5 with a 5.17 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a 55:22 K:BB in 47 innings pitched. He has been better in his time with Triple-A Syracuse, but fantasy managers should steer clear of him as a streaming option later this week against one of the hottest teams in baseball.

Brett Baty  • 3B  •  Mets

Brett Baty Likely Done For The Season

New York Met third baseman Brett Baty (finger) is likely done for the rest of the 2024 season after breaking his left index finger while playing in the minors. Baty had a chance to be part of the team's September roster at the big-league level by the end of his week, but instead he's out four to six weeks with an injury he suffered on Sunday. It's highly disappointing for the 24-year-old left-handed hitter, who had a .997 OPS in his last 12 games for Triple-A Syracuse. Not that Baty would have cut into the playing time of Mark Vientos at third base in the Big Apple to close the 2024 season, but it's pretty much official that he won't be an option now for the Mets to close out the year. The former 12th overall pick in 2019 was sent to Syracuse earlier this year after hitting just .229/.306/.327 with 42 strikeouts in 50 games at the major-league level. Baty's fantasy stock going into 2025 has never been lower.

Ryan Pressly  • RP  •  Astros

Ryan Pressly Throws Live Batting Practice

Houston Astros right-hander Ryan Pressly (back) threw live batting practice on Monday as he recovers from a lower-back strain. Pressly threw another bullpen session on Saturday in Baltimore and remains on track to return from the 15-day injured list when he's eligible on Thursday. He tried to pitch through a back strain for two weeks before the team finally decided to put him on the IL on Aug. 17 (retroactive to Aug. 14). Manager Joe Espada said a minor-league rehab assignment wouldn't be necessary. "I think he's in pretty good shape," Espada said. "The fact that he continues to throw, he feels good." Pressly has a 3.86 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 46 2/3 relief innings in 2024, but he has allowed five earned runs, 12 hits and five walks in seven innings over seven outings since July 29. The Astros will be hoping Pressly is more effective as a late-inning setup man down the stretch after recovering from his back injury.

Elias Díaz  • C  •  Padres

Padres Sign Elias Diaz To Minor-League Deal

The San Diego Padres signed catcher Elias Diaz to a minor-league contract on Monday, according to sources. Diaz will report to Triple-A El Paso and will provide the Friars with extra catching depth behind Kyle Higashioka and Luis Campusano to close out the 2024 season. Diaz was a first-time All-Star in 2023 and also won the All-Star game MVP before collapsing since this year's All-Star break, causing the Colorado Rockies to put him on outright waivers. The 33-year-old Venezuelan backstop saw his power drop considerably (only five home runs) in 84 games for the Rockies this year, but he did hit .270 (82-for-304) with 36 RBI in 327 trips to the plate. It's unlikely Diaz will see significant playing time in San Diego the rest of the year unless one of Higashioka or Campusano miss time with an injury. You can leave Diaz on the waiver wire for the time being.

Luis Gil  • SP  •  Yankees

Luis Gil Throws Bullpen Session

New York Yankees right-hander Luis Gil (back) threw a bullpen session on Sunday. The Yankees are now deciding whether Gil will throw a live batting practice session or appear in a minor-league rehab game. Manager Aaron Boone said it's possible it could be a minimum stay on the 15-day injured list for Gil. The 26-year-old is recovering from a strained lower back and could rejoin the Yankees' pitching staff when he's first eligible on Sept. 6. Because the injury isn't considered all that serious, the Yankees plan on keeping Gil in the starting rotation to close out the year when he returns from his IL stint. The Dominican hurler has been relevant in all fantasy leagues in his first full MLB season and is currently sporting a 12-6 record, 3.39 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 144 strikeouts in 124 2/3 innings over 24 starts. Gil hadn't thrown more than 29 1/3 frames in the big leagues before 2024, though, so fantasy managers have to be concerned he's tiring down the stretch.

Byron Buxton  • CF  •  Twins

Byron Buxton "Getting Closer" To Rehab Assignment

Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said that outfielder Byron Buxton (hip) is "getting closer" to a minor-league rehab assignment but is "not there yet." Baldelli doesn't expect it to be a long rehab assignment, but the expectation is that Buxton will be sent to the minors for at least a few games. It means that the 30-year-old outfielder isn't quite ready to come off the 10-day injured list, although it probably won't be long after he goes on a rehab assignment. When he does rejoin the Twins, Minnesota could ease him back into action in the designated hitter spot. Buxton has been out since Aug. 12 with right-hip inflammation. The former first-rounder hasn't stolen double-digit bases since 2019 and is now providing modest power (16 home runs and 49 RBI) when he's on the field. He was hitting .250 (6-for-24) with three homers, two doubles and five RBI in eight games in August before he went on the IL.

Devin Williams  • RP  •  Brewers

Devin Williams Dealing With Shoulder Injury

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that closer Devin Williams (shoulder) is dealing with a left-shoulder injury. "He got up this morning and his left shoulder, he didn't feel right," Murphy said. The Brewers had the day off on Monday, so it's unclear if the injury to Williams' non-throwing shoulder will require him to be unavailable when the team's series starts on Tuesday against the visiting San Francisco Giants. The injury did keep the 29-year-old from appearing in Sunday's series finale against the Oakland Athletics, though, after he felt a pinch when he woke up on Sunday, likely a result of sleeping on his arm wrong. For now, consider Williams to be day-to-day. If he cannot pitch to start the series against San Francisco or if he ends up on the injured list, right-hander Trevor Megill would likely see any save chances that pop up for Milwaukee.

Ryan Mountcastle  • 1B  •  Orioles

Orioles Place Ryan Mountcastle On 10-Day Injured List

The Baltimore Orioles placed first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 23) on Monday with a sprained left wrist. The earliest Mountcastle can return to the O's is on Sept. 2. In a corresponding move, Baltimore recalled infielder Livan Soto from Triple-A Norfolk. Mountcastle injured his left wrist sliding into second base last Thursday and will now be forced to miss some time as a result. Fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if the 27-year-old first baseman isn't ready to come off the IL when he's eligible on Sept. 2. With Mountcastle out for the time being, Ryan O'Hearn should see most of the starts at first base for the Orioles, with outfielder Eloy Jimenez also getting more run as the team's designated hitter. Mountcastle's power has been in decline now for four straight seasons after hitting a career-high 33 long balls in 2021.

Antonio Senzatela  • SP  •  Rockies

Antonio Senzatela Moving Rehab To Double-A

Colorado Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela (elbow) tossed three scoreless innings for High-A Spokane in his second minor-league rehab outing on Friday, giving up two hits and striking out four against Hillsboro. Manager Bud Black said that Senzatela's next outing will be for Double-A Hartford during the week of Aug. 25. In his two outings with Spokane, the 29-year-old went a total of 5 1/3 innings, so he still has some work to do to get stretched out before he's a realistic option to make several starts for the Rockies at the big-league level to close out the year. Senzatela has never been much of a fantasy asset in mixed fantasy leagues, and that isn't going to suddenly change in the final month of the 2024 season, especially after coming off Tommy John surgery. Keep him on the waiver wire.

Ryan Feltner  • SP  •  Rockies

Ryan Feltner Reinstated And Starting On Monday

The Colorado Rockies reinstated right-hander Ryan Feltner (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list on Monday and placed left-hander Lucas Gilbreath (shoulder) on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move due to left-shoulder inflammation. The team also recalled right-hander Jake Bird from Triple-A Albuquerque and optioned right-hander Peter Lambert to Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Feltner will make the start on Monday at Coors Field against the Miami Marlins. He threw 2 2/3 innings for Albuquerque on Aug. 21 in a minor-league rehab start and gave up five runs (three earned) on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Manager Bud Black had been hoping Feltner would have gone three or four innings, so expect him to be on a pitch count in his first start back on Monday. It's a great matchup for the 27-year-old, but we still wouldn't recommend him as a streamer, especially at Coors.

Javier Báez  • SS  •  Tigers

Javier Baez To Have Season-Ending Hip Surgery

Detroit Tigers shortstop Javier Baez (hip), who was moved to the 60-day injured list on Monday, will have season-ending arthroscopic right-hip surgery next week. Another hugely disappointing season comes to an end early for Baez. The 31-year-old Puerto Rican infielder has somehow gotten worse in each year in Detroit and will finish the 2024 campaign with a .184/.221/.294 slash line with a career-worst .516 OPS, six home runs, 37 RBI, eight steals and 25 runs scored in 289 plate appearances over 80 games played. Given how bad he's been in his tenure with Detroit, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Tigers move in another direction heading into 2025. With Baez now out for the rest of this year, rookie Trey Sweeney should see most of the starts at the 6, although Ryan Kreidler could also mix in for the Tigers.

Riley Greene  • LF  •  Tigers

Riley Greene Getting A Breather

Detroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene will head to the bench for Monday's contest against the division-rival Chicago White Sox and right-hander Davis Martin at Guaranteed Rate Field. It appears to be just a normal day of rest for Greene, who has gone 6-for-25 (.240) with a homer, two doubles, four RBI and eight runs scored in six games played since returning from the injured list on Aug. 18. The 23-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder was a first-time All-Star this year and is currently slashing .263/.355/.482 with an .837 OPS, 18 home runs, 55 RBI and 65 runs scored in 107 games played in his third year in the Show. Greene has been useful for outfield depth in most mixed leagues as a lineup regular for Detroit. Zach McKinstry is starting in left field on Monday and will hit seventh against Martin in the series finale. McKinstry is a low-upside, deep DFS sleeper.

Randy Vásquez  • SP  •  Padres

Randy Vasquez Recalled And Starting On Monday

The San Diego Padres recalled right-hander Randy Vasquez from Triple-A El Paso on Monday and optioned right-hander Lake Bachar to El Paso after Sunday's game against the New York Mets in a corresponding move. Vasquez will rejoin San Diego's starting rotation for Monday's series opener against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. The 25-year-old will be replacing knuckleballer Matt Waldron, who was sent down to the minors late last week after getting hit around in his last several outings. He'll now get another shot after going 3-6 with a 4.63 ERA and 1.51 WHIP with 53 strikeouts and 22 walks in 81 2/3 innings over 17 starts in his first year in SD. If Vasquez can hold his own in his return to the rotation, he could stick around until Yu Darvish (elbow) comes off the injured list. The Dominican makes for a shaky fantasy streamer, with his last MLB start coming back on Aug. 8.

Luke Raley  • LF  •  Mariners

Luke Raley Returns On Monday

Seattle Mariners outfielder/first baseman Luke Raley (illness) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. This is good news after Raley was scratched from Sunday's contest due to flu-like symptoms. It must've been a minor issue as Raley is in the leadoff spot and covering first base against right-hander Ryan Pepiot on Monday. Raley has been a viable option at the plate against right-handed pitching. He's hitting .247 with 14 home runs and 38 RBI this season. He should be worth a look as a streaming option for Monday's slate.
