Michael Massey Activated From Injured List

The Kansas City Royals announced on Monday that they activated infielder/outfielder Michael Massey (calf) from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder/outfielder Nick Loftin to Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move. Massey is ready to make his 2026 season debut for the Royals after going 3-for-12 with a home run in three minor-league rehab games with Omaha last week. The 28-year-old injured his left calf in spring training in early March. The former fourth-round pick in 2019 will be a utility player for the Royals now that he's healthy, making him avoidable in all mixed fantasy baseball leagues for now. Massey had 29 home runs in 2023 and 2024 combined, but he played in only 77 games in KC last year in his fourth year in the big leagues and slashed .244/.268/.313 with a career-worst .581 OPS, three home runs, and 20 RBI.

Michael Massey has "Low-Grade" Calf Strain, Could be Out a Week

Kansas City Royals second baseman Michael Massey (calf) has a "low-grade" calf strain, manager Matt Quatraro told MLB.com's Anne Rogers on Tuesday morning. Massey tweaked it on a play in Cactus League action against the Los Angeles Dodgers last Friday, and it didn't improve, so the team had it checked out. He'll be out of game action for "hopefully just about a week." As long as the 27-year-old isn't out beyond a week, he'll still have a chance to be ready for Opening Day in late March. Massey isn't on the fantasy map in mixed leagues going into the 2026 campaign as more of a utility player for the Royals. The former fourth-rounder in 2019 played in only 77 games last year due to ankle, back, and wrist injuries for KC and slashed .244/.268/.313 with a career-worst .581 OPS, three home runs, 20 RBI, and 20 runs scored in 277 plate appearances.

Michael Massey Reintated From Injured List

The Kansas City Royals announced on Monday that they reinstated second baseman/outfielder Michael Massey (ankle, back, wrist) from the 10-day injured list and optioned outfielder John Rave to Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move. It's unclear yet if Massey will be in the starting lineup for Monday's serie opener against the division-rival Chicago White Sox, but the 27-year-old will now at least provide the Royals with depth at the keystone and in the outfield for the stretch run. Massey initially landed on the IL in early June with a left-ankle sprain before he also suffered a back injury and fractured his right wrist on a rehab assignment. The left-handed hitter could have a little more fantasy appeal in AL-only leagues if he plays regularly against right-handed pitchers before rookie Jac Caglianone (hamstring) returns. Massey has hit only .202 (40-for-198) with two homers and 14 RBI this year.

Michael Massey to Begin Rehab Assignment Saturday

Kansas City Royals second baseman/outfielder Michael Massey (ankle, wrist, back) will begin a Triple-A rehab assignment on Saturday, the team announced. Massey went on the 10-day injured list with a sprained ankle back on June 7, but other issues have set him back in the two months since then. He suffered a hairline wrist fracture on a hit by pitch on June 29, which forced the Royals to shut him down. Massey then restarted a rehab assignment, but the Royals had to remove him from it Aug. 2 after he experienced back tightness. After a recent injection, Massey will attempt to work his way back to the majors once again. The 27-year-old has hit an unsightly .202/.221/.258 with two home runs in 209 plate appearances this season.

Michael Massey to Begin Rehab Assignment Friday

The Kansas City Royals expect second baseman/outfielder Michael Massey (ankle, hand) to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Friday, the team announced. The Royals have gone over a month without Massey, who sprained his ankle June 7 and hasn't played since. Massey had been rehabbing the injury in the minors, but he suffered a hairline wrist fracture on a hit by pitch on June 29 and had to be shut down. Between the poor injury luck and his woeful numbers, this has been a season to forget for Massey. The 27-year-old has only managed to hit .202/.221/.258 with two home runs in 209 plate appearances, which is a key reason why the Royals rank toward the bottom of the majors in second base production.

Michael Massey Returns from Rehab Assignment, Will be Re-Evaluated

Kansas City Royals second baseman Michael Massey (ankle) has been returned from his rehab assignment at Triple-A Omaha due to lingering injury concerns and will be re-evaluated. He was pulled from his last rehab game on June 29 after being hit by a pitch. The 26-year-old has struggled to stay on the field this season, and his .202 average with just two homers across 209 plate appearances offers little to be optimistic about. With Kansas City fading from playoff contention and Massey unable to stay healthy or produce, he holds no fantasy relevance outside deep AL-only leagues. Massey remains day-to-day, with no timetable for his return.

Michael Massey Begins Rehab Assignment

Kansas City Royals second baseman Michael Massey (ankle) is set to begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday night with Triple-A Omaha. He's working his way back from a sprained ankle that has kept him on the injured list since June 8. In 56 games this season, he is slashing .202/.221/.258 with two home runs and one stolen base. He hasn't hit more than 15 home runs in a season in his career and has a career on-base percentage of just .221, so the 27-year-old doesn't bring much interest for fantasy even once he does get healthy.

Michael Massey Sitting Out Versus White Sox

Kansas City Royals second baseman Michael Massey is not in the team's starting lineup for Friday's series opener on the road against the division-rival Chicago White Sox. Rookie Jac Caglianone is serving as the team's designated hitter and is batting sixth against White Sox right-hander Davis Martin. Massey could start to lose more playing time with Caglianone, one of the best prospects in all of baseball, now in town. The 27-year-old left-handed hitter is barely above the Mendoza Line as a hitter and has contributed just two home runs, 14 RBI, 10 runs scored and a stolen base in 195 at-bats over 54 games in his fourth season in the big leagues. In his last seven games since May 24, Massey has gone 4-for-27 (.148) with a run scored, one walk and five strikeouts. He should be on the waiver wire in all mixed fantasy leagues.

Kyle Isbel, Michael Massey Sitting on Sunday

Kansas City Royals outfielder Kyle Isbel (illness) and second baseman Michael Massey are not in the starting lineup when they face the Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon. Isbel was held out of the starting nine on Saturday due to an illness and will remain out on Sunday. Massey has started each of their last nine contests and will be given the day off. As a result, Drew Waters will cover the center field for Isbel, and Jonathan India will cover the keystone for Massey, opening left field for Nick Loftin. Fantasy managers should monitor Isbel's status leading up to their next game on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds. This afternoon, the Royals are best to fade in DFS facing Minnesota right-hander Bailey Ober, who has held a strong 2.23 ERA over his last 32 1/3 innings.

Michael Massey Returns On Monday

Kansas City Royals second baseman Michael Massey (back) is serving as the designated hitter and is batting leadoff for Monday's series opener against the hosting division-rival Minnesota Twins and right-hander Pablo Lopez. Massey was scratched from Saturday's starting lineup against the St. Louis Cardinals with back tightness, but he's feeling better to start the week after Sunday's rare scheduled day off. The 26-year-old is in a favorable lineup spot for the surging Royals but has offered fantasy managers a pretty empty profile with a .265/.290/.480 slash line, 10 home runs, 34 RBI and 34 runs scored in 204 at-bats in 2024. Massey has faced Lopez eight times in his career and is hitting .125 with a .250 OPS as well. He's been excellent so far in August, though, going 9-for-24 (.375) with a homer, two doubles, a triple and four RBI in seven games.
