Vinnie Pasquantino Undergoes Hand Surgery, Set to Miss 4-6 Weeks

Royals catcher Vinnie Pasquantino (hand) is expected to miss four to six weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured right hand, according to manager Matt Quatraro. Pasquantino suffered the injury during a fifth-inning at-bat on Saturday and is now targeting a return around mid-to-late July. The 28-year-old was slashing .224/.309/.350 through 68 games in what has been a disappointing follow-up to his 2025 campaign, when he launched 32 home runs. His impact in the middle of the Royals lineup has been more limited this season, as his barrel rate has dropped from 10.8 percent to 7.3 percent. With a recovery timeline now in place, Pasquantino will look to regain his power stroke and provide a boost to Kansas City upon his return.

Royals Place Vinnie Pasquantino on Injured List With Hand Fracture

The Kansas City Royals announced on Sunday that they placed infielder Vinnie Pasquantino (hand) on the 10-day injured list with a right hamate fracture in his hand and recalled outfielder John Rave from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move. Pasquantino fractured his right hand in Saturday's game against the Houston Astros and will likely be out for at least a month. In the first game without the Pasquatch on Sunday against the Astros, Jac Caglianone will move to first base and bat third, while Lane Thomas makes the start in right field and bats eighth against Astros right-hander Spencer Arrighetti. The 28-year-old Pasquantino has only hit .224 (57-for-254) this year, but he went 14-for-47 (.298) with a homer, three doubles, seven RBI, seven runs scored, and a stolen base in 12 games in June. The former 11th-round pick in 2019 out of Old Dominion University hit a career-best 32 long balls and drove in 113 runs in 160 games a year ago, but he's only at six homers so far in 2026. Despite the disappointing start to 2026, Pasquantino is deserving of being stashed in most fantasy leagues for his power upside while he heals.

Vinnie Pasquantino Suffers Hamate Injury on Saturday

Kansas City Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino (hand) left Saturday night's game against the Houston Astros with a right hand/hamate injury, according to the team. Pasquantino came out of the game after popping up in the fifth inning. The 28-year-old could be looking at an absence of at least a month if he fractured the hamate bone in his hand, so fantasy managers need to prepare for that possibility. Before leaving the contest, Pasquantino went 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a strikeout in the eventual 8-7 loss to Houston at Kauffman Stadium. The timing of his injury comes at a bad time, too, as the Pasquatch has been hot at the plate lately. In 12 games in June, he has gone 14-for-47 (.298) with a home run, three doubles, seven RBI, seven runs scored, and a stolen base to raise his season slash line to .224/.309/.350 in 291 plate appearances. If Pasquantino lands on the injured list with his hamate injury, Jac Caglianone would most likely take over duties at first base for the Royals going forward.

Vinnie Pasquantino Back in Royals Starting Lineup Against Mariners

Kansas City Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino (back) is starting at first base and batting third for the Royals against the hosting Seattle Mariners and right-hander Bryan Woo in Friday's series opener, according to MLB.com. Pasquantino, who said he has been battling some back injuries for most of the year so far, will return after sitting out each of the last two games with lower-back tightness. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger is a must-roster player in fantasy baseball leagues after his breakout 2025 season, in which he set career-highs in home runs (32), RBI (113), and runs scored (72). He's off to a slow start this year, though, and perhaps it's due to his back problems. Pasquantino returns to the lineup hitting .165 (17-for-103) with three home runs, 14 RBI, 11 runs scored, 16 walks, and 24 strikeouts across 29 games and 124 plate appearances. Fantasy managers hope his back injury doesn't flare up again and that he starts to swing a hotter bat to begin May.

Vinnie Pasquantino Still Out With Back Injury on Thursday

Kansas City Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino (back) will miss a second straight game on Thursday against the Athletics in the series finale at Sutter Health Park after aggravating a back injury on Tuesday night, according to MLB.com. Catcher Salvador Perez will start at first base again and bat cleanup against A's left-hander Jeffrey Springs, with Elias Diaz doing the catching for left-hander Noah Cameron while hitting ninth in the batting order. Pasquantino is not ready to return, plus the Royals are facing a lefty starter. Fantasy managers will want to keep a close eye on the Pasquatch going forward, as he said on Wednesday that he's been dealing with back issues for a while now. It helps explain why he's currently hitting just .167 (17-for-102) in the early portion of the year with three home runs, 14 RBI, and 11 runs scored. If he's unable to return to the Royals' starting lineup for their weekend series in Seattle against the Mariners, he might be forced to the 10-day injured list to let his back heal. UPDATE: Manager Matt Quatraro said that Pasquantino is available off the bench on Thursday, which is a good sign that he could return this weekend in Seattle.

Royals Expect Vinnie Pasquantino to Avoid the Injured List

Kansas City Royals general manager J.J. Picollo said that the team expects first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino (back) to avoid the injured list, per Cody Tapp of 96.5 The Fan. Pasquantino was held out of the team's lineup on Wednesday with a back injury and is currently considered day-to-day. The 28-year-old is off to a slow start to the 2026 season, hitting .167/.276/.324 with three home runs, 14 RBI, and 11 runs scored across 123 plate appearances. His barrel rate is down from 10.8% to 7.3%, while his hard-hit rate currently sits at a career-worst 34.1%. While Pasquantino is apparently expected to avoid the injured list, this current back ailment could be part of the reason for his struggles at the plate. Fantasy managers may want to stash Pasquantino on their bench until he proves he is fully healthy.

Vinnie Pasquantino Sitting Out After Aggravating Back Injury

Kansas City Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino (back) is not in the team's starting lineup for Game 3 of their series against the hosting Athletics on Wednesday after aggravating a back injury on Tuesday night, according to MLB.com. Catcher Salvador Perez will get off his feet and play first base while batting cleanup for the Royals against A's right-hander Luis Severino, with Carter Jensen doing the catching for right-hander Michael Wacha and batting third for KC. Pasquantino admitted that he's been bothered by a back injury for a while in the first month of the 2026 season, which helps explain why he's been quiet offensively after hitting over 30 home runs and driving in over 100 runs in 2025. The 28-year-old lefty slugger has hit just .167 (17-for-102) with three home runs, 14 RBI, and 11 runs scored. It's an injury that fantasy managers will want to monitor, as it could end up sending the Pasquatch to the injured list. With Pasquantino out, Jac Caglianone is serving as the Royals' DH on Wednesday.

Vinnie Pasquantino Injures his Back on Tuesday

The Kansas City Royals announced that first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino (back) left Tuesday's game early against the Athletics with lower-back tightness. Pasquantino was removed from the game at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento after grounding out in the top of the sixth inning. Until we know more about the 28-year-old's status, consider him day-to-day going into Game 3 of a four-game series against the A's on Wednesday. In the eventual 4-1 win for KC, Pasquantino went 1-for-2 at the plate with a double and a walk. Nick Loftin moved from second base to first base with the Pasquatch leaving early. If Pasquantino is forced to miss additional time, either Loftin or catcher Salvador Perez would most likely see most of the playing time at first base for the Royals. Pasquantino showed last year that he has high-end power by clubbing 32 home runs and driving in 113 in 160 games played, but he's had trouble making contact so far in 28 games in 2026, going 17-for-102 (.167) with three home runs and 14 RBI across 123 plate appearances.

Vinnie Pasquantino Extends Power Surge, Slowly Snapping Early-Season Skid

Kansas City Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino could be on the verge of putting his slow start to the 2026 season in the rearview mirror. Pasquantino went 2-for-3 at the plate in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the visiting Baltimore Orioles with his third home run of the year, a double, two runs scored, and a walk to raise his season batting average to .160 and his OPS to .546. The 28-year-old left-handed slugger's home run came in the first inning off Orioles starter Chris Bassitt. The two-hit performance on Wednesday in the series finale against the O's broke a string of four straight hitless games for the Pasquatch. His overall numbers through 25 games in 2026 don't look great at all, but Pasquantino could quickly break out in the power department after he hit a career-high 32 round-trippers in 160 games played in 2025 in his second full MLB season. Fantasy managers shouldn't be giving up on Pasquantino just yet, and his buy-low window in single-year leagues could close quickly.

Vinnie Pasquantino Snaps Lengthy Skid with Home Run, Cause for Optimism?

Kansas City Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino crushed his first home run of the season on Thursday against the Detroit Tigers. It came in his fifth at-bat of the contest off Connor Seabold and had an exit velocity of 108.0 mph and traveled 412 feet. It was his first hit of the game and first home run of the season for Pasquantino, and he finished Thursday's contest going 1-for-5. Pasquantino has struggled at the plate thus far, slashing .155/.244/.239 with nine RBI and five runs scored. The Royals' offense overall has yet to show up this season, but perhaps their nine-run outburst from Thursday will get them going. Fantasy managers who drafted Pasquantino have every right to be disappointed with his performance thus far; however, Pasquantino is a career .261/.327/.447 hitter and is coming off a career high last season with 32 home runs and 113 RBI. There is very likely positive regression coming his way. While the underlying metrics so far this season do not fully support that positive regression, his track record over the past five years certainly does. Fantasy managers should be optimistic about his home run on Thursday and the potential breakout on the horizon.
