Carter Jensen is a Must-Add Target at Catcher Position

Kansas City Royals catcher Carter Jensen has been picking it up with the bat recently, and fantasy managers are beginning to notice. Jensen had a recent stretch of play where he hit over .300 with three home runs and five RBI in a six-game span. The power numbers have taken a dip since then, but Jensen is still worth looking at for fantasy managers in need of a catcher. The 22-year-old is slashing .222/.259/.463 with four homers, 10 RBI in 18 games this season. He has been filling in as the designated hitter whenever he's not behind the plate. It's never an easy task finding a viable hitter at the catcher position, but Jensen appears to have good upside.

Carter Jensen Heating Up, Emerging as a Must-Add Catcher in Fantasy?

Kansas City Royals catcher Carter Jensen is starting to heat up at the plate and has homered three times in his last six games. Jensen is slashing .211/.262/.553 with four home runs, seven RBI, six runs, and 16 strikeouts over 14 games. The 22-year-old has struggled with strikeouts this season, posting a 35.9 K%, almost double last season's strikeout rate. However, his 18.2% barrel percentage is in the 92nd percentile, while his hard-hit percentage (50.0) is in the 79th percentile. Jensen has legit power and homered 14 times in just 43 games in Triple-A last season. His average might not be there yet, but Jensen carries plenty of upside and is only rostered in 30% of Yahoo leagues. Fantasy managers searching for catcher help off the waiver wire should add Jensen in all leagues, especially while he's wielding a hot bat.

Carter Jensen Continues Power Surge on Tuesday

Kansas City Royals catcher Carter Jensen was the lone offensive bright spot in his team's 2-1 loss to the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday, as he went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run. The 22-year-old has now gone deep in back-to-back games and has three home runs in 31 plate appearances this season. Jensen also owns an impressive 53.3% hard-hit rate, backing up the 58.3% hard-hit rate he posted across a 60-plate appearance sample size in 2025. Perhaps most importantly, Jensen could be working his way towards everyday playing time in Kansas City. The presence of veteran Royals catcher Salvador Perez blocks Jensen from the full-time starting role behind the plate, but the Royals should have enough at-bats available at designated hitter to give both players regular playing time. Jensen will be a popular waiver-wire target across all formats if he can continue his recent hot streak at the plate.

Carter Jensen Owns Mistake After Scratch; Looking To Bounce Back Quickly

Kansas City Royals catcher Carter Jensen was scratched from the lineup in Wednesday's 5-1 loss against the Minnesota Twins after reportedly oversleeping. Salvador Perez started in his place. Jensen took full responsibility for the mistake, saying, "Felt like I let teammates down, coaches down. Just learn from it and know it won't happen again." The 22-year-old is off to a slow start, slashing .125 AVG, .167 OBP, and .313 SLG through six games. He showed promise in a 20-game sample last season, but is still working to find consistency early this year. Jensen will look to move past the setback and take advantage of his next opportunity.

Carter Jensen Removed from Thursday's Lineup

Kansas City Royals catcher Carter Jensen (undisclosed) was a late scratch from Thursday's lineup due to an undisclosed injury. Instead, the Royals will move outfielder Jac Caglianone to the DH spot, which opens a position for Lane Thomas in the outfield. Through the early part of the young season, Jensen has spent time both behind the dish and serving as the DH. Across five games, the young catcher has held a .125/.167/.313 line with two hits. However, one of his hits left the yard. He made his MLB debut late in the 2025 season and immediately flashed high-end talent, posting a .300/.391/.550 line with a .941 OPS over a short 20-game stint. Managers should continue to monitor his status in case Jensen needs to miss additional time.

Carter Jensen Serving as DH, Hitting Ninth on Opening Day

Kansas City Royals catching prospect Carter Jensen is serving as the team's designated hitter and is batting ninth in the order on Friday on Opening Day against the Atlanta Braves and left-hander Chris Sale, according to MLB.com. Jensen, 22, impressed in a 20-game cup of coffee in KC in 2025 in his MLB debut, going 18-for-60 (.300) with three home runs, 13 RBI, and 12 runs scored in 69 plate appearances. Jensen went just 9-for-42 (.214) during spring training, though, adding three homers, eight RBI, seven runs, one stolen base, four walks, and 11 strikeouts in 15 Cactus League games. He's expected to split catching duties in 2026 in his first full year in the majors with veteran Salvador Perez while also seeing at-bats at DH for the Royals. Don't overlook the fact that Jensen could be playing every day for the Royals this year. DFS managers will want to avoid him on Opening Day in the nine-hole against Sale, though.

Carter Jensen Continues to Look Like a Value Pick at Catcher

Kansas City Royals catching prospect Carter Jensen appears poised to break camp as the team's designated hitter for 2026, while also likely to spell veteran Salvador Perez behind the plate on occassion. The Royals' top-ranked prospect surged through the upper levels of the minor leagues last year, culminating with an impressive 20-game debut in the majors in which he slashed .300/.391/.550 with three home runs and a 9:12 BB:K. The left-handed slugger has looked solid again this spring, going 8-for-30 (.267) with three home runs in 10 games. While the 22-year-old may see some regression from the 2025 numbers over the course of a 162-game season, the contact ability and power are real, as is his ability to draw walks, owning a career 15.2 percent walk rate in the minors. The former third-round draft pick is the 15th catcher going off the board in fantasy drafts (ADP 199), but could easily find himself finishing within the top 12 at the position by season's end, and he currently owns the fourth-best odds for AL Rookie of the Year at +700 (FanDuel), not far behind the leader, Kazuma Okamoto, who is at +460.

Carter Jensen a Prime Breakout Candidate in 2026

Kansas City Royals catching prospect Carter Jensen is a top breakout candidate heading into the 2026 regular season. Jensen made his MLB debut later in the second half last summer and immediately flashed upside. Through his first 20 MLB games, the former third-round selection posted a .300/.391/.550 slash line with three long balls. Under the hood, Jensen's production was even more impressive as he generated an elite .447 xwOBA, .336 xBA, and a .633 xSLG. Earlier in the campaign, the 22-year-old looked just as dominant in the upper minor leagues, across 111 games shared between Double-A and Triple-A. In this stint, Jensen posted a .290/.377/.501 line with 20 home runs and 10 stolen bases. With Jensen ticked for a near every-day role, sharing time at DH and behind the dish, he possesses immense five-category upside at the catcher position in his first full season in the big leagues.

Carter Jensen Ticketed for Major Role?

Kansas City Royals catching prospect Carter Jensen made his MLB debut late in the 2025 season and immediately flashed high upside. With the Royals, Jensen posted a .300/.391/.550 line with six doubles, three home runs, and a 12:9 K:BB across a 20-game stint. Under the hood, the No. 1-ranked prospect in the system per MLB.com generated a remarkable .447 xwOBA, .336 xBA, and a .633 xSLG, suggesting he was not only making contact with the ball. but was flashing high raw power. Earlier in 2025, Jensen began the season with Double-A but needed only 68 games to earn the call to Triple-A. Through 43 games with the top level of the Kansas City system, Jensen held a .288/.404/.647 line with 14 home runs. In 2026, Jensen is expected to split the job with Salvador Perez behind the dish and likely shift to the DH spot on his off days from catching. In his brief stint last summer, he logged 10 games behind the dish and nine at DH. If he continues to perform at this level, Jensen has the upside to be an everyday player and carry high-end sleeper appeal at the catching position.

Royals to Promote Carter Jensen to Majors

The Kansas City Royals announced that they intend to promote catcher Carter Jensen from Triple-A Omaha on Monday. The 22-year-old Kansas City native was a third-round pick in 2021 who now ranks as MLB Pipeline's 69th-best prospect and the No. 2 farmhand in the Royals' system. Jensen opened 2025 in Double-A ball before earning a promotion to Omaha, where his phenomenal production led to his first call to the majors. In 43 games at the Triple-A level this year, Jensen slashed .288/.404/.647 with 14 home runs and 39 RBI in 184 plate appearances. While Jensen may be the long-term successor to franchise icon Salvador Perez, the latter is still the team's starter behind the plate. Jensen should overtake light-hitting journeyman Luke Maile as the Royals' No. 2 backstop and pick up playing time when Perez is out of the lineup or at DH.
