Nathan Church in Strong Consideration to Break Camp in Major Leagues

St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Nathan Church is in strong consideration to break camp with the MLB roster, according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com. Church has put together an impressive showing in spring training and could find a lead role on a rebuilding club in 2026. Through 14 games, Church has held a .313/.436/.469 line with a .905 OPS, one home run, and two stolen bases. The 25-year-old made his MLB debut last summer and posted a modest .279/.254/.250 line with one stolen base and one round-tripper. He spent most of the 2025 campaign with Triple-A Memphis, where he carried a dominant .335/.400/.521 line. Given that Lars Nootbaar (heel) is unavailable to open the campaign, Church could slot in as the everyday left fielder to begin the season.

Nathan Church a Name to Closely Monitor in Spring Training

St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Nathan Church went deep in his spring debut over the weekend and is a name to follow amid the team's current outfield depth. With starting left fielder Lars Nootbaar (heel) expected to miss the start of the season, Church could claim a starting role with a productive showing in camp. Last summer, the 25-year-old made his MLB debut but did not find much success over his first stint, holding a .179/.254/.250 line with a double and a home run across 27 games. However, at Triple-A, Church showcased his five-category profile, which makes him an intriguing sleeper for deeper formats in 2026. Through his lone 53-game stint at Triple-A, Church posted an impressive .335/.400/.521 line with seven home runs and nine stolen bases. If he continues to hit for power in camp, he could be worth a late-round pick in deep 15-team formats.

Nathan Church Called Up from Triple-A Memphis for Debut

St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Nathan Church has been called up from Triple-A Memphis for his major league debut. The Cardinals' 14th-ranked prospect has hit well all season, including a .336 batting average at Double-A Springfield before earning a promotion to Triple-A at the beginning of June. The 25-year-old slashed .332/.396/.517 with seven home runs and eight steals in 52 games for the Redbirds, hitting safely in six of his last seven games before the promotion to the big leagues. The left-handed slugger will get the start in center field on Sunday and will bat ninth in the order. The former 11th-round draft pick doesn't strike out much, with a career 11.0 percent strikeout rate in the minors, and has some speed, but a lack of power and hitting at the bottom of the order are drawbacks for fantasy. As such, the UC-Irvine product should only be considered in deeper and NL-only leagues for now.

Nathan Church Showing Great Discipline To Open 2024

St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Nathan Church was an 11th-round pick in the 2022 draft. The UC Irvine product has terrific bat-to-ball skills and should continue to showcase both contact and power throughout all levels of the minor leagues. He's also swiped some bags. However, he does have some limitations defensively and could be bound to left field long-term. Nevertheless, Church continued to make a name for himself last week, going 9-for-25 with two homers, eight RBI, six walks, and a stolen base. As he has done for his entire career, Church showed terrific plate discipline, adding just two strikeouts to his ledger over last week's six-game span.
