Clay Buchholz News
Toronto starter Clay Buchholz picked up his first win of 2019, defeating the Houston Astros in his second start back from injury. Buchholz went 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits while walking five. Buchholz had virtually the same line in his first start back from the IL, when he got hung with the loss after surrendering two runs in six innings on the road in Seattle. The 35-year-old will have another difficult matchup in his next time out, when he goes on the road again to face Tampa Bay on Friday, making him a poor streaming option unless you're desperate for a quality start.
The Toronto Blue Jays activated closer Ken Giles from the paternity list and activated starting pitcher Clay Buchholz (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list on Sunday. In corresponding moves, pitchers Brock Stewart and Justin Shafer were optioned to Triple-A Buffalo. Giles should immediately go back to being the team's ninth-inning stopper and he should be returned to fantasy lineups everywhere. The veteran Buchholz has been out since May 5 and will return to the rotation on Sunday against Seattle. He won't be appealing in mixed leagues anyway with his 6.57 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 24 2/3 innings (five starts).
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Clay Buchholz (shoulder) has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain of his teres major muscle, which is located in the upper back and right shoulder area. He's scheduled to receive a second opinion this week from Dr. James Andrews, but there is currently no timetable for his return. It's looking like he'll miss significant time if the original diagnosis is confirmed. Out for the foreseeable future, Buchholz can safely be dropped in most leagues now. The veteran right-hander was 0-2 with a 6.57 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 12 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings in his five starts for Toronto.
