Daniel Norris News
The Chicago Cubs are signing free-agent left-hander Daniel Norris to an undisclosed major league deal, according to a source. The Milwaukee Brewers acquired Norris from the Detroit Tigers at the trade deadline last summer, but he struggled with the Brew Crew to the tune of a 6.64 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 20 1/3 innings in the second half. Overall, the 28-year-old had a 6.16 ERA and 1.49 WHIP while fanning 58 hitters and walking 30 in 57 relief innings for the Tigers and Brewers in 56 appearances. Norris began his career as a starter, but he hasn't been a full-time starter since 2019 and hasn't been very effective in a relief role in the last couple of years.
Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Daniel Norris isn't on the team's 26-man roster for the National League Division Series. Norris pitched to a 6.64 ERA and a 6.81 FIP in 20.1 innings for the Brewers after being acquired in a trade with the Detroit Tigers at the trade deadline. Overall, the left-hander pitched to a 6.16 ERA, a 4.87 FIP, 58 strikeouts, and 30 walks in 57 innings this season. The Brewers will go with Aaron Ashby, Brad Boxberger, Jake Cousins, Jandel Gustave, Josh Hader, and Hunter Strickland in the bullpen for the series against the Atlanta Braves.
Updating an earlier reports, Detroit Tigers relief pitcher has been traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for starting pitcher Reese Olson, according to Jason Beck of MLB.com. Norris has looked better on the mound over the last month, posting a 3.24 ERA, 0.720 WHIP and 29 percent strikeout rate over 8 1/3 innings of work, and now he'll become a good option to pick up in SV/HLD formats. Meanwhile, Olson has gone 5-4 with a 4.30 ERA, 1.348 WHIP and 26.9 percent strikeout rate over 69 innings at High-A this year.
