Robert Hassell III Returning to Major Leagues

Washington Nationals outfield prospect Robert Hassell III is being promoted to the major leagues. Hassell made his MLB debut earlier this season but struggled during his first stint. Through 21 games in D.C., Hassell posted a .218/.228/.269 slash line with one double, one home run, and one stolen base. However, since returning to the top level of the minor leagues, Hassell has been one of the most dominant hitters at Triple-A. Through 33 games, Hassell has held a stellar .336/.435/.519 slash line with six doubles, six home runs, and seven stolen bases. With the Nationals out of the playoff picture, they could opt to give Hassell nearly every day at bats as he looks to take the next step in his development. For now, he is worth a look in deeper five-outfielder formats given ability to hit for power and steal bases.

Robert Hassell III Poised to Rejoin Big-League Roster

The Washington Nationals have four vacant active roster spots following Thursday's trade deadline, and outfield prospect Robert Hassell III was scratched from Triple-A Rochester's lineup on Thursday, suggesting that he's poised to be called back up on Friday. He'd be taking the roster spot of Alex Call, who was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Hassell, the team's No. 9 prospect per MLB Pipeline, made his major-league debut earlier this year and went 17-for-78 (.218) with a homer, double, eight RBI, six runs scored and a steal in 21 games played. However, the 23-year-old was swinging the bat well at Rochester after being sent back down and now figures to be in line for regular playing time the rest of 2025 in the big leagues for the rebuilding Nats, at least until Dylan Crews (oblique) comes off the injured list. Hassell is a former first-rounder by the Padres in 2020.

Robert Hassell III Goes Deep Again, Extends Hitting Streak to Seven Games

Washington Nationals outfield prospect Robert Hassell III continued to swing a hot bat as he went deep for the second-straight contest on Thursday evening. Facing Triple-A Scranton, the No. 11-ranked prospect in D.C. went 3-for-5 with a long ball and a stolen base. This outing also extended his current hitting streak to seven games. During this impressive stretch, the 23-year-old has posted a .464/.545/.714 slash line with eight RBI, two home runs, and two stolen bases. Earlier this season, Hassell made his MLB debut but struggled, holding a modest .218/.228/.269 slash line with a .497 OPS across a 21-game stint. Given his impressive production at Triple-A, Hassell should be in the mix to return to the majors in the near future.

Robert Hassell III Goes Deep on Wednesday

Washington Nationals outfield prospect Robert Hassell III went 2-for-6 with a home run in Wednesday's extra-inning loss against Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre. Hassell has enjoyed a strong month of July, slashing .323/.429/.446 with a pair of homers and stolen bases in 65 at-bats. The 23-year-old was promoted to the majors in late May, and struggled mightily with just a .497 OPS in 79 plate appearances. His minor league numbers have never jumped off the page at any level, as he's been more above-average to solid at most stops. That doesn't give him the most upside in dynasty leagues, and he won't have much appeal in redraft leagues except in NL-only formats if he were to return to the majors this year.

Robert Hassell III on Impressive Run at Triple-A

Washington Nationals outfield prospect Robert Hassell III has been on an impressive run since returning to Triple-A Rochester in mid-June. Through his last 22 games at the top level of the minor leagues, Hassell has posted an impressive .298/.404/.488 slash line with four doubles, four home runs, five stolen bases, and 12 RBI. Prior to this recent surge, Hassell received his first look at the big leagues but did not find much success, holding a .218/.222/.269 line over his first 79 PA. He hit just one home run and swiped a bag. In total, through 65 games at Rochester this season, Hassell has posted a solid .291/.361/.433 slash line with 11 doubles, eight long balls, and 14 stolen bases. He is worth keeping a close eye on as he should earn a second look at the majors later in the second half.

Robert Hassell III Homers on Tuesday

Washington Nationals outfield prospect Robert Hassell III went 1-for-4 with a home run and a stolen base against Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. The 23-year-old homered for the third time since returning to Triple-A on June 18. Hassell has overall been very productive for the season, hitting .308/.366/.470 with seven homers and 12 steals in 202 plate appearances at Triple-A. He underwhelmed during his brief stint with the Nationals, with a .497 OPS in 79 plate appearances. The power looks to be average to below average, but he has run high stolen base totals in a few seasons in the minors. He would be a decent deep league add if he were to return to the majors.

Robert Hassell III Launches Two Long Balls on Friday

Washington Nationals outfield prospect Robert Hassell III went 4-for-5 with a double, two home runs, and a walk during their contest against Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday evening. Hassell made his MLB debut earlier this month but was optioned to Triple-A earlier in the week. During his first three games back in Rochester, the No. 11-ranked prospect in the system has been very productive, going 8-for-14 with two doubles, two home runs, two walks, and a stolen base. Before this impressive surge, Hassell held a .288/.337/.405 line with seen doubles, four home runs, and nine stolen bases across his first 43 games at Triple-A. During his first taste of the majors, Hassell posted a modest .218 AVG. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should continue to monitor his production as he will likely return to D.C. later this season.

Robert Hassell III Sent Back Down

The Washington Nationals announced on Monday that they optioned outfield prospect Robert Hassell III to Triple-A Rochester on Monday and recalled outfield prospect Daylen Lile in a corresponding move. The Nationals will swap outfield prospects and give Lile another shot after Hassell hit .218 (17-for-78) with a home run, double, eight RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base in his first 21 major-league games. The 23-year-old former eighth overall pick by the San Diego Padres in 2020 should be back in the majors later this year as outfield depth, but for now he'll head back to the farm for more development. The team's No. 11 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, is currently a better speed and defensive asset at the highest level. Hassell has questionable power and was hitting .288/.337/.405 with four homers, 24 RBI and nine steals at Rochester before his call-up.

Robert Hassell III Hits First MLB Long Ball

Washington Nationals outfield prospect Robert Hassell III went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI during their victory over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday evening. Hassell knocked an RBI single in the fourth that scored infielder Luis Garcia Jr. Then, in the eighth, Hassell would hit his first career MLB long ball off Seattle right-hander Blas Castano. After an impressive MLB debut on May 22 when he tallied two hits and swiped a bag, Hassell went 0-for-12 over his last four contests. However, the 23-year-old enjoyed a much-needed breakout game on Wednesday. Fantasy managers should continue to expect Hassell to have an everyday role in center field with both Dylan Crews (oblique) and Jacob Young (shoulder) sidelined. Hassell is worth rostering in all deeper five-outfielder leagues given his ability to hit for power and steal bases.

Robert Hassell III Impresses in MLB Debut

Washington Nationals outfielder Robert Hassell III had a solid MLB debut in his team's 8-7 extra-inning win over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday. Hassell went 2-for-5 with two runs and a stolen base to help lead Washington to the win. The rookie outfielder is known for his speed, although his ability to hit for power at the big-league level is still in question. That being said, Hassell is worth an add off the waiver wire in case he is able to show that his debut on Thursday was a sign of things to come.
