Ryan Walker Implodes in Loss

San Francisco Giants closer Ryan Walker had an outing to forget in a 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. After Giants hurlers Justin Verlander, Joey Lucchesi, and Jose Butto combined for eight scoreless innings, Walker entered in the ninth to preserve a two-run lead. He wasn't up to the task. The right-hander faced five hitters and failed to retire any of them. Along with hitting a batter, he gave up four hits - including a walk-off double by Jordan Walker - en route to his fifth loss and sixth blown save of the season. The 29-year-old entered the game having surrendered just four earned runs since the start of July, but he nearly matched that total on Saturday. Walker now has a 3.93 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP, 55:14 K:BB, and 14 saves in 2025.

Ryan Walker Earns 13th Save Of Season Tuesday

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Ryan Walker picked up his 13th save of the season in Tuesday's eventful 7-4 win over the Rockies. Walker came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by three and provided a 1-2-3 outing with a strikeout to end the game. The 29-year-old started the season as the team's closer and lost the role. However, he has found himself back in it recently and has converted all three of his save opportunities without allowing a run in the last 15 days. Overall, Walker has converted 13 of 17 save opportunities with a 3.48 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and an 8.94 K/9 rate in 54 1/3 innings of work. The Giants have picked things up lately, so Walker could have more opportunities to provide fantasy value down the stretch.

Ryan Walker Earns the Save on Sunday

San Francisco Giants right-hander Ryan Walker notched his 11th save on Sunday as the Giants went on to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3. With Randy Rodriguez (arm) unavailable Sunday, the Giants turned to Walker in the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead. The right-hander was able to work around Sal Frelick's two-out single to lock down his 11th save in 16 opportunities to go along with his eight holds. Even after losing his closer role earlier this season, overall, Walker has been solid out of the bullpen with a 3.63 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP in 52 innings pitched. Should Rodriguez miss any time down the stretch, Walker would likely be the leading candidate to be in line for more save opportunities down the stretch. In the meantime, he remains a solid reliever to have in all formats that reward saves and holds.

Camilo Doval to Replace Ryan Walker as Giants Closer

San Francisco Giants right-handed reliever Camilo Doval will take over as the team's primary closer over right-hander Ryan Walker, according to manager Bob Melvin. Doval hasn't allowed a run in his last 19 appearances while posting a sharp 1.16 ERA, a 0.73 WHIP, five saves, 20 strikeouts and eight walks in his 23 1/3 relief innings in 2025. Last year, the 27-year-old had a career-worst 4.88 ERA and 1.58 WHIP with 23 saves in 59 innings pitched, but the year prior in 2023, he made his first All-Star team and led the league with 39 saves in 69 appearances. Doval has looked much more like the pitcher from 2023 so far in 2025 and will now move forward as San Fran's primary closer. Fantasy managers need to add him immediately off the waiver wire if he's available. Walker has converted his last three save chances but came into Wednesday's game with an ERA over 5.00. He'll still be valuable in holds leagues.

Ryan Walker Slams Door on Athletics

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Ryan Walker worked a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his eighth save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Athletics on Sunday. Walker struck out one and didn't allow a baserunner in this one. He is now 5-for-7 in saves with a 5.29 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts in 17 IP on the year. The 29-year-old has had a difficult start to his season, but that hasn't deterred the Giants from using him in high-leverage opportunities. While he has ceded some saves to Camilo Doval, he still appears to be the go-to reliever for the Giants. That could change if his struggles continue, but for now Walker should remain rostered in all leagues where saves matter.

Ryan Walker Closes Out Cubs On Wednesday

San Francisco Giants closer Ryan Walker slammed the door on the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday, picking up his seventh save in a 3-1 win. Walker pitched a scoreless ninth, allowing just a single. He now has a 6.08 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and 15 strikeouts in 13 IP. The 29-year-old has gotten back on track for the most part after a few ugly outings, although his appearance on Tuesday was one to be forgotten as well. Still, the Giants seem to trust him, and there haven't been any signs of him being removed from the closer's role. More performances like this one would help his case and surely give his fantasy owners a sigh of relief.

Ryan Walker Remains Giants Closer

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Ryan Walker has been struggling over the last few outings. Walker allowed only one earned run over his first eight innings of the season. Now, Walker has allowed six earned runs in 0.2 innings over his last two outings. Camilo Doval has earned the last three saves for San Francisco, while Walker got a break. However, manager Bob Melvin said that Walker is going to come into the game if the Giants have a save chance on Friday. Fantasy managers should continue to hold Walker in the hopes that this was just a few bad outings. It would also be smart for fantasy managers who picked up Doval to keep him for a little longer.

Ryan Walker Tosses Scoreless Ninth Inning

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Ryan Walker was called upon to hold a one-run lead against the New York Yankees on Sunday. It wasn't easy as Walker threw 18 pitches to earn his fourth save of the season. He didn't allow any baserunners and stuck out one batter as well. It appears the Giants have a lockdown closer on their hands. When healthy, Walker is one of the best relief pitchers in all of baseball. The Giants have been playing winning baseball which has given Walker plenty of save chances. That being said, Walker needs to be rostered in basically all fantasy formats right now.

Ryan Walker Dealing With Back Issue

San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Ryan Walker (back) was unavailable to take the mound during Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. Instead, Camilo Doval was called upon to hold a three-run lead in the ninth inning. Doval did a nice job as he tossed a scoreless inning and recorded one strikeout for his first save of the season. Manager Bob Melvin said Walker is dealing with back tightness, but it's believed to be a minor issue. The expectation is that Walker will be ready to go within the next few days. Fantasy managers should monitor this situation. Doval would be worth adding if Walker does end up missing some time.

Ryan Walker To Be Giants Closer

San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin said on Wednesday that right-handed reliever Ryan Walker will open the season as the team's closer. Walker took over as the Giants' closer in the second half last year and never looked back after Camilo Doval was removed from the ninth-inning role. All in all, the 29-year-old was excellent with a 1.91 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 99 strikeouts, 18 walks, 10 wins, 10 saves and 21 holds in 80 innings pitched for San Fran. Walker's 26.9 K-BB percentage ranked 10th in the league as well. The former 31st-round pick has been rewarded for his breakout 2024 campaign and should now be considered a top-10 fantasy closer now that he's officially been named the team's primary closer entering the 2025 season. Walker's biggest threat to closing duties if he struggles will probably be Doval if he's able to bounce back.
