Monday Night Football Week 5 Preview: Packers at Raiders

Green Bay Packers (2-2) vs Las Vegas Raiders (1-3)

  • Spread: Raiders -1.5
  • Over/ Under: 45.5

Breakdown

Jimmy Garoppolo has passed concussion protocol this week and will return after missing week 4.  The Raiders offense did not look great last week without Garoppolo and with rookie Aidan O’Connell making his first career start.  Davante Adams has put together an excellent start to his season, bringing in 33 receptions for 397 yards and three touchdowns.  Adams is one of the best route runners in the league and demands targets, he has 50 already through 4 games.  The other star player on the offense is running back, Josh Jacobs.  Jacobs hasn’t quite gotten it going on the ground yet, rushing for only 166 yards through 4 games, but he has brought in 18 receptions for 173 yards.  Jacobs is one of the best halfbacks at receiving the ball out of the backfield and has shown that this season.  Jakobi Meyers has been solid to start the season but he and Hunter Renfrow need to step up to help this offense.

Aaron Jones is listed as questionable but is most likely going to play in this matchup.  Jones injured his hamstring and missed weeks 2 and 3, but came back last week but was limited to only five rush attempts.  The Offense has not looked the same without him so getting Jones back to full health will be vital for the Packers success.  His running mate AJ Dillon hasn’t gotten off to the start he wanted, averaging only 2.7 yards per carry.  It is finally Jordan Love’s team and he has looked pretty good to start his first season as the starting quarterback.  Love has thrown for 8 touchdowns, 901 yards, and 3 interceptions.  Even adding two more rushing touchdowns.  The only knock on his game so far has been his pass accuracy, only completing 56% of passes.  Thankfully, he is getting one of his top pass catchers back to full health, Christian Watson.  Watson made his season debut last week but was eased into the offense, catching a touchdown but only on 2 receptions.   Watson will surely get more involved as the season goes on and he gets back to full health.  Second-year player Romeo Doubs has been a pleasant surprise for this offense.  Doubs has brought in 3 touchdowns on 20 receptions so far this season.

Keys To Victory

Packers: Get the ground game involved.  AJ Dillon has struggled so far when working alone in the backfield but getting Jones back is going to be huge.  He is a great pass catcher and he showcased that in week 1 when he had 86 yards and a touchdown.  Even Love has been getting involved with his legs.  If the Packers can run on this defense it should open up the play action pass game as well.

Raiders: Star Players have to play like stars.  Josh Jacobs and Davante Adams are the key to this Raiders offense.  The Raiders offense has looked lethargic at times and has failed to score over 20 points so far this season.  Jacobs and Adams need to elevate the play of their teammates to make the job easier on Jimmy G.  Both can be effective in the pass game and Jacobs will need to be an efficient runner against a defense that has not been good at stopping the running back.

Prop Bet Pick

Romeo Doubs Over 47.5 Receiving yards (-113)

Doubs and Love have been on the same page the last couple of weeks and he’s beaten this line 2 weeks in a row.  Doubs has 25 targets through the last 2 weeks and should see quite a few again in this matchup.

Aaron Jones Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+125)

The Packers have not been efficient rushing the last few weeks without Jones and will want him heavily involved.  Jones gets a boost because he can score on the ground but is also capable of taking a screen pass out of the backfield to the endzone.

DFS Picks

Packers Offense: Luke Musgrave.  Rookie tight end Luke Musgrave has gotten off to a solid start in his young career.  Musgrave suffered a concussion last week but does not carry an injury designation into this game.  Musgrave saw 8 targets in week 3 and the Raiders rank in the middle of the pack in defending the tight end position.  He is less costly than the “main” offensive weapons and offers good upside in your lineup.

Raiders Offense: Jakobi Meyers. The Raiders use 3 players on offense; Davante Adams, Josh Jacobs, and Jakobi Meyers.  They are the only 3 players on the team that have more than 55 receiving yards.  Adams and Jacobs carry a much heftier salary price than Meyers.  Meyers was heavily involved with Jimmy G under center and I expect to see his targets go back up after only being targeted 4 times with O’Connell.
