Jakob Poeltl News
Toronto Raptors center Jakob Poeltl is re-upping with the team on a four-year, $80 million deal. After being moved by the San Antonio Spurs this past trade deadline to the squad which drafted him, the 27-year-old receives a multi-year extension as Toronto's starting center. Poeltl has developed into one of the league's better defensive big men with playmaking ability. The former first-rounder provided 13.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.5 combined steals and blocks across 27.2 minutes per game with the Raptors last year. Poeltl remains a preferred big for fantasy rosters punting free-throw percentage (56.9% from the charity stripe in Toronto last year).
Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet and center Jakob Poeltl are both expected to hit the open market this summer. Despite that, it sounds like the organization is making a strong push to bring both players back. The Raptors gave up a protected first-round pick in exchange for Poeltl at the trade deadline. They'd hate to lose him for nothing, especially since he was a reliable option for them during the 25 games he played with Toronto. The assumption is that the Raptors would be able to sign Poeltl for a deal around four years, $80 million, but we'll see how much interest he has on the open market. The Raptors would also like to bring back the seven-year veteran in Vanvleet. As expected, he declined his player option and is reportedly seeking $30 million per season in free agency. That's not a terrible deal given how well Vanvleet has played for the Raptors throughout his career. It sounds like the main focus of the Raptors this offseason is bringing back their own players.
Toronto Raptors center Jakob Poeltl will command a significant salary in free agency this summer. The Austrian giant has finished up a three-year contract worth a little over $26 million, and he is now reportedly looking for a deal that will have an average salary in the $20 million range. The Raptors brought Poeltl back from San Antonio midseason in a trade that cost the club multiple draft picks, so they should be very interested in getting a new deal done with him. But the 27-year-old should also be an attractive piece for any other team looking for a center. Poeltl has enjoyed back-to-back strong seasons and did very well during his 26-game spell in Toronto, putting up 13.1 points with 9.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks.
Toronto Raptors center Jakob Poeltl told reporters that he doesn't know what's going to happen this summer as he becomes an unrestricted free agent. The 27-year-old never signed an extension after the trade from San Antonio and there are a lot of teams that could use a solid starting center, just like the Raptors needed for many seasons. Poeltl averaged 12.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game across his time with San Antonio and Toronto.
