T.J. McConnell News
Indiana Pacers guard T.J. McConnell is expected to receive plenty of interest from many clubs around the league when free agency begins in August. One team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, is reportedly targeting McConnell and could be in a good position to acquire his services ahead of the 2021-22 campaign. The 29-year-old averaged a career-high 8.6 points, 6.6 assists, and 1.9 steals throughout 69 games last season. If given a more prominent role, primarily as a starter somewhere, he has the potential to have his best year to date.
Indiana Pacers guard T.J. McConnell played an excellent all-around game in Wednesday's win over the Timberwolves. McConnell replaced Malcolm Brogdon (hip) in the starting lineup for the fourth straight game and didn't disappoint, matching his season-high 15 assists. The veteran guard scored 19 points on 9-for-12 shooting, chipping in three rebounds, a pair of steals, and a three-pointer in 35 minutes. Over the last four starts, McConnell has averaged 13.7 points, 8.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game. He's an excellent DFS play if Brogdon is forced to sit out Friday's game against the Magic, who have allowed the second-most FanDuel points to point guards.
Indiana Pacers guard T.J. McConnell compiled 16 points, four rebounds, 13 assists, 10 steals, and one block in 36 minutes off the bench during Wednesday's win over the Cavaliers. The guard has been averaging 6.3 points per game this season, so this triple-double was easily his best performance of the season. What's encouraging is McConnell has posted at least 16 points, five rebounds, and 12 assists in two of the three last games, so he's definitely on a mini-streak right now. His next chance to shine will come on Thursday against an average Nuggets defense.
Indiana Pacers forward Doug McDermott (knee) will not play Monday against the Chicago Bulls. McDermott had an MRI done, but that came back clean so we are looking at a short-term absence for now. T.J. McConnell is slated to start for McDermott and is a great source of assists and steals regardless if he starts or comes off the bench. Jeremy Lamb and Aaron Holiday should also see extra run in the short-term.
