Victor Wembanyama Coming off the Bench on Tuesday Night

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama will come off the bench in Tuesday's NBA Cup Final against the Knicks. He recently returned from a 12-game absence for Saturday's win over Oklahoma City. Although he also came off the bench for that one, he still finished with an impressive 22 points, nine boards, two blocks, and one steal. There's a good chance Wemby plays a little more than the 20 minutes he logged in his last outing, making him a must-start in all fantasy setups.

Victor Wembanyama May Come Off the Bench Again Tuesday

San Antonio Spurs forward/center Victor Wembanyama may start Tuesday's NBA Cup final against the New York Knicks on the bench. The French superstar came off the bench for the first time in his career when he returned from a calf strain in Saturday's semifinal against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Wembanyama sat out the entire first quarter and played only seven minutes in the first half. He logged 13:20 after halftime, recording 22 points, nine rebounds, two assists, one steal, and two blocks in the game. Even with a limited workload, Wembanyama can make a huge impact, and his fantasy production isn't dependent on whether he starts or not.

Victor Wembanyama Expected to Return on Saturday

San Anthonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama (calf) is expected to play in Saturday's NBA Cup meeting with the Thunder after missing the last 12 games due to a calf strain. The 2023 No. 1 overall pick was performing at an MVP-caliber level before going on the shelf, averaging 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists (all career-highs), 3.6 blocks, and 1.1 steals. Wemby will presumably see fewer than the 34.7 minutes he's averaged during the 2025 campaign, although that shouldn't stop fantasy managers from plugging him back into their starting lineups. On the other hand, DFS participants should proceed with caution, considering his hefty rostering cost as well as a tough matchup on the horizon against arguably the best defensive team in the National Basketball Association. Luke Kornet, who has been starting in place of Wembanyama, will almost certainly head back to the bench, eliminating nearly all of his fantasy value.

Victor Wembanyama Remains Out Wednesday

San Antonio Spurs forward/center Victor Wembanyama (calf) has been ruled out for Wednesday's NBA Cup matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers. He traveled with the team to the game but still needs a bit more time to recover from a left calf strain. Wembanyama practiced fully on Sunday, which suggests that his return is near. His absence on Wednesday night will presumably give Luke Kornet another opportunity to start. The veteran big man has averaged 6.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in 26.5 minutes per game as a starter. Kelly Olynyk also features more in the rotation due to Wembanyama's absence and is coming off a season-high 11-point performance.

Victor Wembanyama Travels For NBA Cup Clash Against Lakers

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama (calf) will travel for Wednesday's NBA Cup matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers. He has missed 11 straight games with a left calf strain but participated fully in Sunday's practice, putting him close to a return. Fantasy managers should keep him on the bench but ready to activate. His last healthy stretch included 27.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists in 36.0 minutes. If he sits again, Luke Kornet remains a low-usage streaming big, while Kelly Olynyk and Jeremy Sochan profile as deeper-league options.

Victor Wembanyama to Miss Several Weeks

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama (calf) is set to miss several weeks of action. ESPN's Shams Charania reports that Wembanyama will be out for a "few weeks" due to a left calf strain. The French superstar missed his first game of the season on Sunday against the Sacramento Kings. A source told ESPN that Wembanyama will be re-evaluated in 2-3 weeks. Luke Kornet started at center on Sunday and is likely to benefit the most from Wembanyama's absence, although fantasy managers can also expect to see more of Kelly Olynyk and Bismack Biyombo during the upcoming weeks.

Victor Wembanyama Questionable for Sunday

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama (calf) is questionable for Sunday's meeting with the Sacramento Kings. The 2023 No. 1 overall pick is playing at an MVP level, averaging 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 3.6 blocks, and 1.1 steals. He also hasn't missed a game after being limited to 46 appearances last season. However, nagging calf tightness could be enough to keep him off the floor for the first time in the 2025 campaign. If Wemby can't go, there are several directions head coach Mitch Johnson could go, although most of them will likely result in more minutes for Julian Champagnie, Luke Kornet, and Keldon Johnson.

Victor Wembanyama Cleared for Spurs Training Camp

NBA reporter Matthew Tynan reports that San Antonio Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson stated that both the organization and the NBA have cleared center Victor Wembanyama to participate in training camp with no restrictions following his diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder last season. Wembanyama averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.8 blocks, and 1.1 steals in 46 contests before the condition ended his season abruptly in February. Now, with a clean bill of health, the 21-year-old superstar is going to be a significant fantasy contributor across all formats during the upcoming campaign.

Victor Wembanyama Looking "Quite Stellar"

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama (illness) was cleared to return in July after dealing with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder last season. He last suited up in February's All-Star game before the condition ended his season abruptly. While the 21-year-old hasn't played since then, NBA insider Marc Stein mentioned he has "played in some recent full court runs at Loyola Marymount" and has "looked quite stellar." This is certainly another positive update regarding Wembanyama, who averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.8 blocks, and 1.1 steals last season. Without question, the team will presumably be overly cautious with him moving ahead. However, that shouldn't stop fantasy managers from viewing Wemby as a top-five fantasy option, especially since he has MVP potential.

Victor Wembanyama Officially Cleared to Return After Blood-Clot Recovery

Michael C. Wright of ESPN reports that San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama announced he has recovered from deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder that limited him to just 46 contests last season. Wembanyama told French newspaper L' quipe, "I'm officially cleared to return." He also mentioned to L' quipe, "I got the green light from the Spurs' medical staff just on Friday. Phew, I'll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again." The 2023-24 NBA Rookie of the Year led the league in blocks last season with 176 despite only playing in 46 games. Now healthy, the 21-year-old big man will continue to be a fantasy force during the 2025-26 campaign, as he was in his first two seasons in the NBA.
