Victor Wembanyama News
San Antonio Spurs forward/center Victor Wembanyama had a triple-double in Monday's decisive win over the Toronto Raptors. The rookie finished with 27 points, going 10-for-14 from the field and 2-for-4 from deep, 14 boards, five assists, and two steals. Most impressively, he had 10 blocks. Wenbanyama is starting to pick up steam heading toward the All-Star break, and he finished the month of January by averaging a career-high 24 points. The 2023 No. 1 overall pick isn't expected to log more than 30 minutes a game consistently moving ahead, and turnovers have been an issue. However, as long as he continues to produce in all other statistical categories and remains healthy, fantasy managers will accept it.
San Antonio Spurs forward/center Victor Wembanyama isn't listed on the injury report ahead of Saturday's game versus the Minnesota Timberwolves. The rookie routinely misses one of the two games in back-to-back outings. However, with the Spurs reporting easing up on his minutes restriction, it appears he'll be in the lineup on Saturday. Wembanyama is coming off a monster showing, amassing 23 points, 12 rebounds, two blocks, and two steals on Friday against the Portland Trail Blazers. That said, he may play fewer minutes than usual. Yet, the 20-year-old remains a must-start fantasy option in all formats.
San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama has been under a minutes restriction ever since he sprained his ankle a couple of times back on December 21. Even with the restriction, he tweaked his ankle again in the first game after that. Originally, it was placed at 24 minutes a night, but he has seen just shy of 30 minutes in the past couple of games. This weekend, it seems that the Spurs are prepared to play him as many minutes as they need. Wembanyama was averaging north of 30 minutes per contest before the restriction, so they'll likely get back to the same mark. Gregg Popovich even talked about possibly playing him in both halves of a back-to-back. More than halfway through his rookie season, the French superstar is averaging 20.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 3.2 blocks, 1.1 steals, and 3.2 turnovers per game.
San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama won't play on Friday night versus the Hornets. San Antonio plays the second of consecutive outings on Saturday, so the rookie will take the night off to rest. In his place, Zach Collins (ankle), back from a nine-game absence, will return to the starting lineup. Collins has averaged a career-high 12.9 points this season. However, he's averaged 14.3 points with 23 appearances with the first five this year, meaning he's worth considering for all fantasy lineups, even if he plays fewer minutes than usual in his first game back since the end of 2023.
