Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has been downplaying wide receiver Julio Jones' absence at minicamp this week and expects him to show up when he holds informal workouts next month. Ryan plans to hold unscheduled practices with teammates in South Florida before training camp. Jones has been away from the team while seeking a new contract. He has three years and $35 million remaining. Don't read too much into Jones' absence. He should remain a WR1 and will come off the board in the early rounds. Jones should be able to improve in the touchdown department in Year 2 under offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian.
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones is not reporting for mandatory minicamp this week, according to general manager Thomas Dimitroff. "We have been in contact with Julio and his representation. We will not discuss those conversations publicly except to say we feel they have been productive and constructive. We understand the concerns and thoughts from their perspective. Although not ideal, Julio informed us today he would not be attending mini-camp," Dimitroff said. Jones is officially holding out as he seeks a new deal. The 29-year-old has been dinged up a bit in recent years but hasn't missed any time really and remains an elite WR1.
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones is expected to be back for mandatory minicamp in June, according to head coach Dan Quinn. The 29-year-old Jones is seeking one final extension before his career winds down. It probably doesn't hurt him to sit out organized team activities after dealing with nagging injuries over the last several years, either. He's posted four straight 1,000-yard seasons and has five total in his career, making him an elite fantasy wide receiver.
