Doug Baldwin News
The Seattle Seahawks released wide receiver Doug Baldwin(knee) on Thursday with a failed-physical designation. Baldwin dealt with a myriad of injuries during the past year, resulting in him undergoing three separate surgeries during the offseason. Most notably, Baldwin dealt with a knee issue that dogged him throughout the 2018 season. Rumors of Baldwin's potential retirement surfaced last month, with this being the final step for him to make those rumors official. Baldwin tallied 493 catches for 6,563 yards and 49 touchdowns in his Seahawks career. Tyler Lockett slides over to the top receiver spot with rookieD.K. Metcalf second in line for targets in a revamped Seattle receiving corps.
A resolution to Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin's situation may be "weeks" away, according to general manager John Schneider. After three separate surgeries this offseason, Baldwin is seriously considering retirement. The 30-year-old was hampered by injuries in 2018 and was a shell of his former self, catching 50 passes for 618 yards and five touchdowns in 13 games. Seattle drafted three wideouts, including D.K. Metcalf, in an effort to potentially help replace Baldwin moving forward. Even if Baldwin winds up playing for another season, he'll be much more risk than reward for fantasy owners. Tyler Lockett could be forced into a huge workload in 2019 alongside the rookie Metcalf.
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin, 30, might not be able to continue his career due to multiple injuries, according to sources. There is a real chance that he has played his last down in the NFL. Baldwin is expected to be out six to eight weeks after having hernia surgery last month, and the aging and injured wideout also had two other surgeries after the end of last season. His injuries caught up with him in 2018, as he caught just 50 passes for 618 yards and five touchdowns in 13 games. He hasn't had a 1,000-yard season since 2016 and has fallen quite a bit since then. It makes more sense as to why Seattle traded up to take D.K. Metcalf with the final pick in the second round on Friday night. If Baldwin is forced to call it quits, Metcalf's fantasy appeal will go up considerably in his rookie season.
