The Minnesota Vikings are re-signing place kicker Kai Forbath to an undisclosed deal Tuesday, according to a source. He made a career-high 32 of his 38 field goal attempts (84.2 percent) for the Vikings last year, including a career-high six of nine from 50-plus yards. Forbath is an 85.9 percent kicker in his seven years in the NFL, and he'll be a fantasy sleeper in an offense that should improve with quarterback Kirk Cousins at the helm.
Veteran Kai Forbath was affirmed as the Vikings' starting kicker following a strong performance in the preseason. Minnesota released undrafted kicker Marshall Koehn upon Saturday's deadline. Forbath gained an edge over his young counterpart with a perfect run on field goals and extra points through the first four weeks. He remains an under-the-radar kicking option as Minnesota ranked at the bottom of the league in red zone touchdown percentage.
Minnesota's special teams woes of the past two years may be a thing of the past as rookie Marshall Koehn and veteran Kai Forbath both went perfect on Friday night. Koehn, who spent 2016 on Miami's practice squad, delivered on a 29-yard field goal and one extra point try. The incumbent Forbath connected on his lone attempt from 53 yards. This battle is expected to go through the entirety of the preseason. Though up in the air at the moment, Minnesota offers kicker value following a season where they ranked 29th in red zone touchdowns.
