Deon Cain News
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Deon Cain caught 6-of-9 targets and gained 62 yards during the team's 27-13 preseason loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Philadelphia played almost exclusively backups during the preseason finale in an attempt to figure out who would make the final roster after cutdowns, with the 27-year-old looking like the most complete receiver Thursday night. Tyrie Cleveland was the standout through the first few weeks of the preseason. However, he was waived due to injury, leaving the likes of Cain, Joseph Ngata, Devon Allen, and the newly signed Freddie Swain fighting for one of the final wide receiver spots on the roster. After last night's performances, Cain and Swain will likely be the final two in contention. Whoever is cut will likely revert to the practice squad.
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Deon Cain caught two of his eight targets for 26 yards during Saturday's preseason loss to the Miami Dolphins. The six targets he did not catch came from third-string quarterback Reid Sinnett. The 26-year-old has had a solid preseason up to this point, making a serious push for a roster spot. His top competition for a roster spot, John Hightower, led Philadelphia in receiving Saturday, but it likely was not enough to push Cain off the roster. For fantasy purposes, Cain is off the radar for redraft formats. However, the third-year receiver is a name to monitor in dynasty leagues if Philadelphia has a slew of injuries at the wide receiver position.
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Deon Cain finished with five receptions on seven targets for 66 yards during Sunday's win over the Cleveland Browns. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith were inactive, while slot receiver Quez Watkins recorded only two targets with minimal usage. The Eagles were giving their backup receivers reps, with Gardner Minshew starting under center. Cain shined the brightest of the bunch. The former sixth-round pick has an outside shot at making the final roster if he can continue to produce late in next week's game against the Miami Dolphins. With Jalen Reagor struggling in the contest and rumors of him surfacing on the roster bubble, Cain took a step in the right direction to make the team. The former Clemson alum has little to no fantasy value for redraft but could be a name to monitor in dynasty leagues if injuries occur.
