Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis said he is open to playing past the 2018 season. "I'm very open to the possibility of playing next season," said Davis. "You haven't been listening. I'm VERY OPEN." The 35-year-old Davis posted 100-tackle seasons from 2012 to 2016 with the Panthers and was one of the very best linebackers in the league. However, he dipped to just 76 tackles in 2017 and is expected to play more of a rotation role this season in order to keep him fresh and healthy. That obviously hurts his IDP value.
Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis said that the 2018 season will be his last year in the NFL. Davis has been one of the best linebackers in the NFL over the last several seasons alongside Luke Kuechly in Carolina, but the veteran will be 35 next year and is already resigned to the fact that he'll take on a lesser role in favor of younger defenders in 2018. Davis had over 100 combined tackles the previous five seasons, but he managed only 76 in 2016 to go along with 2.5 sacks. His IDP value will take another significant hit if he's just a part-time player next year.
Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis, who will turn 35 in March heading into his 13th NFL season, said he expects a reduced role in 2018. "This was a tough year for me dealing with a bunch of injuries that caused problems for me," Davis said. He managed to play in 15 games in 2017 and recorded 52 total tackles, down from 73 in 2016, and he managed 2.5 sacks. Davis was still productive, but his best days are clearly behind him.
